05.01.2022 Myofascial Dry needling was developed as a treatment method for trigger point pain. Trigger points are tight bundles located within the muscles. They have common sites across all people (making them relatively easy to find) and can be classified quite simply as active or latent. The pioneers of trigger point therapy Dr Travell and Dr Simmons classified numerous pain points within the body and were able to identify where these points commonly lay within muscles and also their... corresponding referral patterns. Travell and Simmons later went on to identify different ways to treat these trigger points; with pressure, with stretching, with the application of dry needles and also the application of wet needles (by injecting a solution into the trigger point). Within their research Travell and Simmons were able to find a link between the western developed trigger points and the eastern identified pain points. There was over a 70% correlation of these points within the body! Dry needling has since gone on to be developed and integrated into western medical and especially sports practice. With a very good result on reduction of inflammation and reducing pain quickly, as well as improving recovery times. MDN now can be applied to muscles, tendons and ligaments all incredibly safely and with exceptional results. It is important not to confuse the application of acupuncture needles to the application of needles for blood testing or for injecting wet solutions such as cortisone. The commonly used size of an acupuncture needle is 0.2mm- definitely not large enough to do any damage to any muscle, tendon or ligament. Where the misconception can lie is with cortisone where repeated use has been shown by research to make tendons or ligaments more brittle. See more

01.01.2022 What is Cupping? Myofascial Cupping is a form of myofascial release and trigger point therapy. It combines various massage and stretching techniques with the application of slightly pressurised (ie suctioned) cups. How does Cupping works?... Cupping helps to lift and separate the soft tissue, allowing for greater fluid movement and nutrient supply throughout the soft tissues. This nourishes, detoxifies, stimulates and increases range of motion. Will Myofascial cupping leave marks? This technique ensures that the skin in not damaged. In many cases, the skin can show a darkened appearance where the suction is applied, whereas traditional forms tend to leave large unsightly round, bruise like markings which can last weeks. What a Myofacial cupping treatment looks like? A treatment generally begins with palpation and general massage to locate and pinpoint target areas. Once located, the cups are then applied to the target areas and engaged so that a negative pressure is created within the cup. It is this negative pressure within the cups which lifts and separates the soft tissue, and with the aid of balms or creams the cups can be moved along or around the affected tissues, Active and passive stretching for enhancing range of motion and will also bring fresh oxygen and nutrients enriched blood along as it goes. Due to the nourishing detoxifying and stimulating properties, this relatively new form of massage has been found to work wonders with the treatment of scar tissue, adhesions, stretch marks. Why would you use Cupping on me? If you suffer from Plantar fasciitis, Shin splints, Iliotibial band Syndrome (ITB), rehabilitation after injury, lower back pain, overused shoulder or want to increase range of motion and mobility. In other words, Myofascial Cupping will lower stress levels, make you feel wonderful, and stretches the fascia and muscles. Just like a regular massage! The unique experience of a myofascial cupping massage is that one notices straight away the differences and those differences will continue to work for the next 72 hours and you will see the complete benefits after 3 days.
