06.01.2022 Breaking news this morning ... Details about the review into the NDIS Act have been released by the government. The Department of Social Services have released ...a discussion paper about what the review will cover - and information about how you can get involved. There will be an online survey, the chance to make a written submission and face-to-face workshops in each state and territory. The website says there will also be targeted workshops for people with an intellectual disability, people from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background and people from a culturally or linguistically diverse background. The discussion paper says the review will focus on what changes need to be made to the NDIS Act and Rules to make room for the introduction of the Participant Services Guarantee. The Guarantee was an election promise by the Morrison government to introduce set timeframes for NDIS processes such as planning and reviews. The overview says the review will also look at other "opportunities to make the NDIS process simpler and more straight forward and remove barriers to positive participant and provider experiences with the NDIS". Importantly the discussion paper also says - "The Review of the NDIS Act will not change the design and intent of the NDIS. Rather, the Review is focussed on removing red tape and making the participant experience with the NDIS better." We are checking out the paper now - but in the meantime you can check it out yourself by following the links below. The discussion paper can be found on this page - there is also an Easy Read version - https://engage.dss.gov.au//ndis-act-review-and-ndis-parti/ An Easy Read version of the overview and an Auslan video of the overview can be found on this page -https://engage.dss.gov.au/review-of-the-ndis-act-and-the// Details about the consultation can be found on this page - https://engage.dss.gov.au/review-of-the-ndis-act-and-the-n/ (Image description: A red rectangle with the words "Breaking News" in white capital letters)
