25.01.2022 Huge congratulations to @aimclydesdale and the @southside.flyers taking out the 2020 WNBL premiership on Sunday. After taking the first part of the season to learn their roles the team really flexed their muscles to become the team to beat dominating the end part of the season. Aimie worked with our own superstar physio @samlesliept in the few months leading up to #hublife rehabbing and then performance programming her to be ready. Aimie got through the season without a hitch and played an integral part in the premiership success. Well done to all the players, coaches and support staff on such an outstanding result.

15.01.2022 How can sponges help explain osteoarthritis? Much like a wet sponge, our cartilage is made mostly of water. There is a misconception that osteoarthritis needs rest but movement allows water in and out to keep it our cartilage healthy. Too little movement can mean a build up of dirty water leading to degenerative changes. ... Too much movement without enough recovery can squeeze too much water out and lead to degeneration. The key to good cartilage health is to have regular movement and loading with enough recovery Thanks to @adammeakins for an awesome analogy to a complex condition! Keep an eye out on our social media for information about the GLAD program which has shown to be extremely effective in treating osteoarthritis.

11.01.2022 Soccer season is in full swing, and as with any sport, injuries happen from youth leagues to master's. Here are some common things to look out for and what physiotherapy can do about it.

07.01.2022 Plantar fasciitis is an overuse injury. It occurs where the fascia attaches to the calcaneous, due to collagen disarray. Having an absence of inflammatory cells, deems this injury a tendinosis/tendinopathy. The plantar fascia has three segments originating from the calcaneus (heel bone). The most clinically significant is the central one forming the longitudinal arch of the foot. The fascia is for static support and shock absorption. ... CAUSES Low arches/flat foot or high arches (common in running, dancing, and in the presence of such anatomical conditions) Reduced dorsiflexion Increased BMI (obesity) Work-related weight bearing Associated with tight calves, hamstrings, gluteal and hip flexor muscles, and abductor muscle weakness. SYMPTOMS Gradual onset of pain on the medial aspect of the heel, initially worse in the morning and reducing with activity. Ache can occur post activity. Inactivity worsens symptoms. As severity progresses, pain continues with weight-bearing activities. Diagnosis is made by ultrasound (GP) CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT Avoid aggravating activities (correcting technique and assessing malalignment or kinetic issues) (Physio) Decrease inflammation (ice packs, NSADs, TENS unit, ANF therapy, taping, self-massage, massage) (Physio and GP) Gradual return to pain-free activities, targeting weaknesses (stretching and strengthening programs) (Physio & Exercise Physiologist) Heel cups (Physio) Shockwave treatment (Physio) Orthotics for shoes and Strasburg socks for night-time use (Physio) NON-CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT Cortisone injection (GP and Sports Medicine doctor). Note: steroid injection may increase the risk of rupture and fat pad atrophy. Plantar fasciectomy (surgical intervention by a specialist) Fascial release, more likely required by those with a high arch rather than a flat foot. If you are suffering from heel pain or Plantar Fasciitis, book an appointment with our friendly team of expert Physios. *References* Brukner, P., Khan, K., & Brukner, P. (2012).
