15.01.2022 Cloncurry Police would like to acknowledge the success of the recent Race day and Rodeo at the Equestrian Centre. The racing committee should be congratulated on their tireless efforts in successfully coordinating these joint events. Over the two days, which included the Gala event held at the Council Chambers on Friday evening, all members of the community appeared to enjoy the events, and this resulted in very limited police interactions for anti-social behaviours. This is also a testament to all who give their own time to ensure the events are firstly available to the public, and secondly presented in a manner that is safe and enjoyable for all persons who attend. Overall it was a great weekend and no doubt the community will be looking forward to all events in 2021!

10.01.2022 Officers close Operation Quebec Harrow targeting drug distribution in Cloncurry and Mount Isa. In August 2018 Detectives from the Major and Organised Crime Squad (Rural) based in Cloncurry commenced Operation Quebec Harrow, an operation targeting the trafficking and supply of dangerous drugs in Cloncurry and Mount Isa. In January 2019, as the operation progressed, the Cloncurry Criminal Investigation Branch became involved. Over the course of the operation, Detectives ga...thered sufficient evidence implicating numerous persons involved in the trafficking of methylamphetamine (ice) and other dangerous drugs. The operation was closed on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2019 with 31 search warrants being executed across Cloncurry and Mount Isa. 79 persons have been charged with a total of 196 charges. $320 000 of methylamphetamine, cannabis, steroids and cash were seized. A forty-one year old Cloncurry woman was one of several targets of the operation and she was charged with Trafficking Dangerous Drugs in this community. Unfortunately, Cloncurry, although being a small community, is not immune to the impacts of ice and how it affects families, the town and services in the district. We thank members of the community for the information provided that has contributed to the success of this operation and we will continue to target the drug trade in Cloncurry.

09.01.2022 Gel Blasters are becoming a very popular novelty item for both adults and younger persons. They are legal to possess without a licence and regardless of the age of the person in possession of it. There is, however, legislation surrounding conduct with the item and possessing it in certain circumstances. If you are considering purchasing a gel blaster we encourage you to read the information contained in the below link. Whilst it is all relevant, we cannot stress the importance... of the legislation which states that when a gel blaster is being transported / carried in a public space, they cannot be visible to the public. We would also reinforce that these items are extremely realistic in appearance, and are very easily mistaken for the real thing. This causes obvious concerns to members of the public going about their daily business, but more so, police officers who may be called to an incident where it is reported that a person is behaving in a certain way, believed to be armed with a firearm of some type. Have fun responsibly please.

07.01.2022 For those who followed our previous Cloncurry Cops Facebook page, you might have enjoyed one of our very popular regular posts where we give one of our local officers the opportunity to tell us a little about themselves in an initiative to help our community to get to know the person behind the badge so to speak. To kickstart the return of our Get to know your Curry Cop we introduce Senior Constable Kerry Purcell. Kerry was born, bred, and schooled over in Bowen. Prio...r to joining the QPS in 2008, Kerry was an Employment Advisor & Administration officer in schools. Wanting a challenging career and to help members of the community in any way possible, Kerry initially worked General Duties in Bowen, and then as a School Based Police Officer in Bowen and then Mackay. Kerry cites helping a group of Year 12 Indigenous students overcome certain life barriers to gain their learners licence, which ultimately assisted and resulted in these students obtaining employment at the end of year 12, as a definite career highlight. Kerry came to us over a year ago now, and she did so to experience remote country policing in a small country town and to be closer to family. Kerry enjoys the community policing aspect of working in a remote location, but finds the isolation, cost of living and expensive flights as the greatest challenges. With her own career goal of achieving the next rank of Sergeant, Kerry’s advice to young people to wanting to join the Police is to gain overall life experience prior to joining and committing to a policing career, which may also be combined with her personal motto of Never Give Up. When she’s not patrolling the streets of Cloncurry, Kerry enjoys going to the gym, walking, travelling and spending time with friends. Kerry is pictured here, in a completely unstaged photograph, on a recent patrol of Chinaman Creek Dam!! We hope you enjoy these posts, and we hope to introduce you to all of the crew in the coming weeks and months.
05.01.2022 Attention learner drivers. Cloncurry Police have recently received queries from residents as to whether learner drivers are permitted to receive driving lessons during the current restrictions relating to home confinement and non-essential travel. As it stands now, there is no specific Queensland Health Direction in relation to this issue. This, however, may change as we move forward. Until there is a clear direction from Queensland Health that learning to drive is not a valid reason to leave home, learner drivers will be permitted to receive lessons.
