13.01.2022 The last post wouldn't let me add the details of the information sessions about Carers Gateway, so here it is....

12.01.2022 Today we learn of some wonderful news for Christmas! So happy that common sense has prevailed for such an important sector! Today the Federal Government announced that ALL associated degrees for Social and community services workers are now protected by the Professional Pathway and will be exempt from government fee increases. Earlier this year the Federal government proposed DOUBLING university fees for community services degrees (e.g. Social Work, Human Services, Mental ...Health, Social Sciences, Youth Work, Community Welfare, Social Welfare, and Counselling). ASU members and supporters fought hard and led the campaign to stop these fee hikes which would have created further workforce shortages that already exist in this critical sector as well as creating barriers for both entry and career advancement which would disproportionately impact women who work in this sector. In a HUGE WIN the Federal Government listened to your voices and backed down on the proposed fee hikes for Social Work, committing to creating instead the Professional Pathway to Social work. But we didn't stop there. We kept fighting to keep the government to account to ensure all relevant degrees would be exempt from these crippling fee increases. Today the Federal government announced that they would include all relevant social and community services degrees as a part of the Professional Pathway. This means people who support our communities across the sector will not be forced to pay more for their degrees or spend longer paying them off.

07.01.2022 Ok, here is the opportunity a lot of people have been waiting for! NDIS wants to hear from YOU. Please consider giving a response to these important issues, as YOUR VOICE COUNTS. Have your say on NDIS reforms We want to hear more from providers, families, carers and participants about changes we're planning to make the NDIS simpler, faster, fairer and more flexible.... On 25 November 2020 the NDIA released three papers which are open for consultation over 3 months. The consultation papers are: Access and eligibility policy for independent assessments explains how we will work out who is eligible for the NDIS and what details people need to give when applying. Planning policy for personalised budgets and plan flexibility explains how we will work out what is in a participant's NDIS budget, what parts are flexible and where funding is fixed, and making changes to plans. Supporting young children and their families early, to reach their full potential includes changing the early childhood age group from under 7 to under 9. This paper includes feedback many early childhood providers gave us earlier this year on the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach. An ECEI implementation reset project report is also available, which outlines the research, recommendations and further background for anyone interested in understanding the detailed ECEI reset project activities. Read the media release. Feedback To give your feedback about how these changes will work for you: Download the consultation papers from the Have your say page of the NDIS website. We welcome any feedback on the policies outlined in the consultation papers. Some questions are also available at the end of each consultation paper. Upload a submission submissions can be made in writing or as an audio or video file. Submissions close AEDT 10 am Tuesday 23 February 2021. Next steps After we've reviewed your feedback, we will start to implement the recommendations throughout 2021. Some recommendations may take longer than others for us to work through. We will keep you updated on our progress. NDIS reforms information paper On 24 November 2020, the Minister for the NDIS, Stuart Robert, released an information paper which summarises the NDIS reforms and what they mean for people. Draft legislation will be released for consultation in early 2021, before it is introduced to Parliament, with a view to it coming into effect mid-2021. https://www.ndis.gov.au/ Read the media release and visit the DSS website for the NDIS Reforms information paper.

04.01.2022 Edward and his support worker Shona recently enjoyed a day trip to Hawkesbury RDA for a research visit for Edward, to find out if this is something that may become a regular activity. Animals are known to assist in reducing anxiety and stress, and horse riding is a fantastic activity to help build and maintain core strength and balance.

04.01.2022 Media Release - 14 August 2020 BETTER ACCESS TO LEGAL ADVICE FOR OLDER PEOPLE AND ADULTS WITH DISABILITY . Older people and adults with disability who contact the Ageing and Disability Abuse Helpline can now access more timely and appropriate legal advice in an expanded partnership announced today between the NSW Government’s Ageing and Disability Commission and Justice Connect.... Justice Connect will use videoconferencing facilities already in use by the health sector to expand their reach and simplify the process for health workers, advocates and clients. Ageing and Disability Commissioner, Robert Fitzgerald AM, said the program assists eligible older people and adults with disability experiencing abuse, neglect or exploitation through direct advice and support from Justice Connect’s expert lawyers and network of pro bono legal experts. Older people and adults with disability deserve equal access to legal services. They are often dealing with complex legal issues that require expertise and sensitivity because of the challenging family situations they are in, Mr Fitzgerald said. Importantly, we are now able to connect eligible people with legal support anywhere in NSW, removing geographic, safety and mobility barriers that can exist for older people and adults with disability when needing to access legal help. This expanded partnership will cover areas of legal need beyond guardianship and administration issues, including contractual matters involving undue influence or unconscionable conduct, elder abuse, disputes relating to assets-for-care arrangements and more complex property matters. Chris Povey, CEO of Justice Connect said: Our partnership with the Ageing and Disability Commission is a great opportunity to continue supporting older people and now adults with disability and ensure they have access to effective and appropriate legal services, regardless of where they live in NSW. For adults with disability, the program also covers support with matters related to accessing the NDIS, Disability Support Pension, discrimination, guardianship, housing and other legal issues.

01.01.2022 This is what it's all about! When you get to be a part of someone's life, share, learn and grow with them, and join them on the adventure called life, what more can you ask for? Thank you Alison, for embodying what Mypower strives for, and thank you Rohan, for allowing us to walk beside you! "We are so very very grateful for the support we get from Alison at Mypower Foundations. Every Saturday Rohan is up, dressed and ready and waiting for adventures before I'm even out of b...ed. They go bushwalking, shopping, head out to parks, jam to Rohans favourite music....whatever he choses. It warms my heart that he is HEARD and RESPECTED while taking huge steps toward independence. Just wanted to let you know how amazing you are and we appreciate all that you do. Thank you x"
