23.01.2022 Don’t these boots look stylish!!

20.01.2022 A cure for spinal cord injury is very personal to me. The Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation is currently fundraising for the next stage of their very promising clinical trial. Due to COVID 19 they have had to cancel all of their fundraising functions. This year for my birthday I thought I would hold a fundraiser to assist with their fundraising efforts. Every little bit helps.

19.01.2022 After a fall from my horse on 24/12/10 I became a t6 Paraplegic. The T6 region of our spine is just around your bra strap. Life changed very dramatically that day. There are many things I miss.... independence to do the things I love such as riding, a standing hug with my loved ones and being able to join in on activities with my kids. A cure for Spinal Cord Injury is very personal to me. SCI is not just loss of walking but altered bladder, bowel and sexual function, difficu...lty with thermo regulation, loss of or altered feeling, hand grip and arm dysfunction with a cervical injury, skin integrity management from sitting all day just to name a few!! Pain and spasticity are also very challenging and some people, despite medications, are still in constant pain daily. I am SIPPING during SIP Week because spinal injury sucks! I am raising funds for an Intensive Rehabilitation Trial and to ultimately find the cure for paralysis!

19.01.2022 Just listened to this podcast. Chantelle Otten Sex Therapist is great as is Dylan. Follow Chantelle on Instagram she has great content

18.01.2022 First time sitting in a saddle and catching a tennis ball. I started out not being able to let go of the pommel to progressing to this in a short period of time. Twice weekly sessions with the crew at Making Strides and Vin Rabl is certainly improving my body.

16.01.2022 Today if things had gone to plan Sandman and I would be about to compete in our very first competition tomorrow. It was always going to be a big ask seeing as I had only started to consistently ride him since arriving in Victoria 4 weeks ago and we are really not established together yet as a partnership. On checking my new medications one of them is a banned substance in sport. I applied for an excemption but have to get more paperwork filled out by my neurologist I tried... an allowed pain medication that made me groggy and didn’t control the pain and my pelvis kept locking. And now I have a UTI so I’m resting up Wishing all of the amazing para riders every success over the weekend.

16.01.2022 SIP week challenges everyone to drink all beverages through a straw just like those with a spinal injury to help raise funds to find the cure for paralysis #sipweek #Paralysis #sipweek2020... We sip because spinal injury sucks November 2-8 Head on over to my page to find out all the details and donate. https://www.sipweek.com/joy-heenan

15.01.2022 South Australia friends.... It’s a very rewarding team to be part of helping a para rider.

11.01.2022 Happy Easter to all. How are you all travelling in these crazy times? This is how I am visiting Sandman at the moment. Can’t wait until I can ride again.

11.01.2022 First ride back in 4 months felt sooooo good! All the hard work I have been doing with Vin Rabl and the Making Strides team is really paying off. I was straight, strong and even had a little trot. Sandman was his superstar self. Thanks Haileigh Russell

10.01.2022 Christmas is always a hard time of year for me. My accident anniversary is Christmas Eve and I find it hard. A time of year that is filled with celebration but has catastrophic memories for me. I seem to be having a run of resilience building times at the moment and seem to bounce from one challenge to another. Thank goodness for Sandman! He is good for the soul, loves a cuddle and will stand for a scratch as long as you want to give them. We had our best ride ever on Mon...day 13/1. I trotted 20 metre circles each way, change of directions, full arena and my body was finally good. It’s taking me some time to adjust to riding his trot and not fall to the left and cause problems for my body. Then....an unfortunate incident doing rehab training for my body on 14/1 and there was a loud clunk. In denial for a bit but eventually with an extremely swollen knee I had to present to emergency. Yep I’ve broken my other leg. It’s just not fair. 6 weeks in a splint and in the not too distant future injections for osteoporosis. 35 days to go....

08.01.2022 Incredibly honoured to be included in the.weeklytimes Shine Awards. Congratulations to all nominees. Thank you to Hannah Driscoll for telling my story so well and Chloe Smith for capturing such gorgeous shots of Sandman and I. https://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au//8969ab20fceb8362fe452d7

08.01.2022 Who else is excited for this great sale!!

08.01.2022 Was great to have Para Equestrian Joy Heenan & her most beautiful Warmblood gelding ‘Sandman’ drive all the way to see us @ Woodend for a HoofScan & shoes. What a great combination!!!

06.01.2022 Oh Sandman! You fill my heart.

05.01.2022 2020 is certainly proving to be a challenging year. Between my leg break at the start of the year, Sandman needing some strength training, a change of support crew, Covid and winter weather I haven’t been able to ride regularly. The stars aligned on Friday for a lovely walk on the gorgeous Sandman . Roll on some warmer weather
