12.01.2022 Bushfire Art Appeal "YES WE CAN ONCE AGAIN" In 2009, Aarwun Gallery successfully ran an art appeal for art that could be distributed to those effected by fires who lost art. We are well aware of the tragic loss of life, the huge loss of many homes, wildlife, and livestock over wide areas, but seldom is the tragic loss of irreplaceable art mentioned. Art is not always adequately insured, and is certainly not replaceable. In most cases it is not a priority at all. With the los...s of so many homes, thousands of art works no doubt have been destroyed. Having personally experienced the tragedy, loss and damages from fire. Currently, having been caught in the Ournie fire south of Tumbarumba with the loss of stock and property, I am well aware of what hundreds of people are experiencing through these dreadful fires, and the losses associated with them, and what they are going through. Now is the time for people who appreciate art and believe that art can help others get through this difficult time. As the owner of the Aarwun Gallery, once again, I am appealing to people who have artworks they no longer enjoy or require and think that other people might enjoy them, to donate them to our bush fire appeal, so we can distribute the artworks to those who would like to replace paintings they have lost in the fires. This is the opportunity for a practical response from the Art Community, art collectors, and artists spearheaded by myself at Aarwun Gallery with involvement of many artists, including Ken Knight, Ted Lewis, Carlos Barrios, Mark Waller, Sandra House and other galleries and artists showing their support for this appeal. As those involved in previous Canberra and Victoria fires know only too well it is often the art and craft items made and given by complete strangers that start off the new traditions and new family treasures. As an art lover, I deeply believe Art is an essential component to healing.
