25.01.2022 We all have an inner child. It’s the part of us that gets emotionally hurt or distressed easily. It throws the tantrum, gets miffed, even naughty. It’s a natura...l part of our psyche. People who laugh a lot are in touch with their inner child. Usually they are playful, happier, and healthier than those who suppress this childlike quality. Taping into our inner child is what we do in a Laughter Yoga (Hasya Yoga) session. In doing so, we learn to laugh unconditionally from the body, not the mind. Our mind is responsible for dramatizing most things we find challenging, which creates negative emotions. Our bodies tend follow these emotions. Laughter Yoga gives a safe platform to playfully express emotions. Better out than in! Laughter Yoga is left-brained body/mind medicine. It helps bring our problems into perspective, something the mind is often challenged to do. These are great reasons to practice unconditional laughter in free Zoom laughter sessions regularly. We are all spending more time indoors these days, spending most time sitting. Being sedentary, no matter what the reason*, is detrimental to our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. So, staying active during this difficult time and all other times is a very important habit to cultivate now. Ways we can stay active and continue with our workout routine is to improvise with very little or no equipment at all and remembering that any activity is better than none at all. When you make it fun, you would love it. Successful people are proactive and successful individuals begin with the end in mind. Steven Covey Please note that prolonged sitting have negative health consequences when large muscles relax too much, they take up less sugar from blood as a result of low activity, triggering the risk of type 2 diabetes. Triglycerides, the enzymes that breaks down blood fats, drop causing levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) to rise and HDL (good cholesterol) to fall, thus increasing cardio vascular related risks. Lack of activity, also reduces stamina, weakens muscle, joint, bone strength and balance. It so suppresses mood and feeling of wellbeing taking quality of life with it. I urge you to get a simple plan going and work with the plan and enjoy every bit of it. Remember failures in sustaining your exercise need not be lasting if we possess the willingness to examine them and grow from them. Laughter is an exhalation of breath and when we do laughter yoga exercises we're forcing carbon dioxide out of our lungs. On the inhalation through our nose and using our diagraphm, this then fills our lungs to their full capacity with oxygen. Breathe in, hold for a few seconds, breathe out - take time today to take 5 slow mindful breaths - repeat as often as you like.
