21.01.2022 https://www.bordermail.com.au//myrtleford-soccer-talent-/ Myrtleford's Jack Milford moved to the US to study and play soccer in 2019, but couldn't have imagined his second year at Notre Dame College in Cleveland would pan out the way it has. After limited game time in his freshman year, the talented midfielder, who most recently played for Murray United, had his season derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic and has been forced to wait longer than he'd hoped for an opportunity.... Milford flew back to Myrtleford earlier in the year and was set to play with his former club in the AWFA, but when the season was put on hold, he opted to return to America and continue to train with his college side. To top it off, one of his teammates contracted coronavirus this year and the whole squad was forced into two weeks of quarantine, but he's hopeful of a return to the pitch in the new year. Notre Dame, a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division two team, has an eight-game spring schedule set to commence on February 18. Despite a tough start to his four years at Notre Dame to study business management, Milford has enjoyed it. "We're a big sports school. It's not the biggest people-wise, but all our teams do well athletically," he said. "There's a lot of foreign guys on our team so we're all in the same boat and we all get along together. The main point of coming over here was to keep playing at a higher level and get my degree as well. We just need this COVID to go away so we can get back on the field. Jack Milford "The main point of coming over here was to keep playing at a higher level and get my degree as well. "We just need this COVID to go away so we can get back on the field." Ohio has been one of the hardest hit states by COVID-19 with 585,000 confirmed cases, but Milford said the college has done well to keep students safe. "It's a lot worse than it is back home, but there's not much we can really do," he said. Caponecchia is a close friend of Milford's, but the pandemic has made it near impossible to catch up. Milford will spend Christmas and New Year in America and is set to commence pre-season training with the team on January 11. "The school has done as much as they can, we get temperature checks before and after training and I think next spring we're getting COVID tested twice a week."

09.01.2022 Its that time of year again! Registrations for season 2020 will open Wednesday, February 19 and it can all be done online. JUNIORS: https://bit.ly/2SAhPrO... SENIORS: https://bit.ly/2UZN5Cm PLEASE NOTE Registrations have increased by $10 this year. Juniors $190 for the season and seniors $300 for the season. Miniroos has also increased to $85 for 2020. There is a discount for families that have three or more children registering. This year we are implementing a canteen levy in an attempt to increase volunteers across the club. If you would like to help the club out and do canteen duty during the season, you will have the option to do this during registration and your $40 fee will be removed. We are a volunteer run club and we rely on our members to help run it smoothly. The money made through the canteen levy will go towards paying someone to take your spot. All registrations are pending until our registrar has authorised them. You will receive an automated email when you are officially a registered Savoy player. Please let us know if you have any problems.

08.01.2022 Myrtleford Savoy Soccer Club committee is saddened to confirm the suspension of all competition and training for the next four weeks. Football Federation Australia has tonight confirmed that effective from March 18 at 12am, all sanctioned grassroots football activity in Australia will be suspended until April 14. The suspension applies to all sanctioned matches and competitions, including National Premier Leagues, FFA Cup, youth, grassroots and Miniroos football as well as ...training and associated football related activities. FFA has recognised the disruption for the football community and will closely monitor all COVID-19 developments in consultation with the Federal Government and its National COVID-19 Working Committee. Updates will be provided to the community as it becomes available and in advance of April 14. A meeting will be held with all clubs on Monday, March 23 to discuss how we manage the missed rounds and further advice will follow when it is available. Any members with ideas are welcome to pass onto our Club President for discussion at the meeting. Its not the start we had hoped for this season but as we are sure you are all aware, the decision is out of our hands and we must do what is right for our community and our players. In the meantime, we ask our players and supporters to maintain personal hygiene, stay healthy and seek medical advice if you are unwell. We will post any updates we receive. #COYS
08.01.2022 https://www.bordermail.com.au//myrtleford-product-to-cap/ One of the region's most promising young soccer players has been appointed captain of his college side for next year. Myrtleford and Murray United export Fletcher Caponecchia has impressed in his two years at West Virginia University Institute of Technology and was named vice-captain this year, before he was informed he would take on the captaincy when competition resumes in February.... "It was a bit surprising because normally they give it to some of the older boys, but I was named vice-captain for this semester and next semester I get to move into the full captain's role," Caponecchia said. "We had two captains and they graduated this semester, so I was next in line. "I feel really privileged and humbled and I'm ready to take on that role." Caponecchia, 20, returned to Australia in March and was set to play with Myrtleford before the AWFA season was postponed after one round due to COVID-19. The season was later cancelled by the pandemic and Caponecchia was at the crossroads, but, with his college set to resume play in September, he made the decision to fly back to the US and managed to get eight games in before the semester break. "Basically I thought there was no chance that I'd be back here," Caponecchia said. "Throughout the year I saw other conferences and divisions of soccer slowly but surely shutting down and I thought it was only a matter of time before the league my college plays in did the same, but it never did. It was a bit surprising because normally they give it to some of the older boys, but I was named vice-captain for this semester and next semester I get to move into the full captain's role... I feel really privileged and humbled and I'm ready to take on that role. Fletcher Caponecchia "I was toing and froing a lot and it got to early September and I could get back so I decided to go. "A few games here and there got postponed and some were moved to next semester, but overall it was a good decision to come back and I played a lot more football than I would have if I had stayed back in Myrtleford." Caponecchia said the plan was for the college to play all of its conference games in theNational Association of Intercollegiate Athleticism (NAIA) competition before the Christmas break, but due to some postponements, it hasn't quite panned out that way.
