Then look at my information about How YOU Can STOP Sexual Harassment at Uni In 2016, the (Western Sydney) University firmly committed its support to Universities Australia’s Respect. Now. Always campaign. A key element of this campaign was the launch of a national survey on the prevalence of sexual assault and sexual harassment across Australia’s universities. This survey was conducted by the Australian Human Rights Commission in late 2016. The Australian Human Rights Commission’s National Report on sexual assault and sexual harassment at Australian universities, together with our own institutional findings, are now available. The National Report indicates some HARROWING and CHALLENGING results for the sector, and clearly highlights that much more work needs to be done to address this issue. Similarly, our own University report indicates that we need to do more amongst our own community. The survey results for Western Sydney University show that 25% of our 618 respondents HAD experienced some form of sexual harassment at university, and that 0.6% HAD experienced sexual assault in a university setting. 92% of respondents who had experienced sexual harassment at University did NOT seek support from the University and 94% did NOT make a formal report, citing reasons such as not knowing who to contact.
