04.01.2022 The surname Borromeo was adopted in the year 1416 by one Vitaliano Borromeo I. Vitaliano was in turn was able to trace his ancestral lineage back to one Saint Justina of the Roman Catholic Church, who was martyred in the year 303. She was part of the Vitaliani family of Italy, which is the origin of the Borromeo family of Milan, Italy. The separation between the Vitaliani and Borromeo surnames occured in 1416 when one branch of the Vitaliani family adopted the new surname of ...Borromeo. The Vitaliani family of Padua, Italy can trace its own genealogy back to A.D. 66 information for which I thank Osvaldo Vitaliani, a professional executive chef who lives and works in Romania. His parents came from Padua, and he was born and raised in the city of Bozen, which is the capital of the autonomous German-speaking South Tyrol province in Northeastern Italy. Another large branch of the Vitaliani family comes from the city of Naples in southern Italy. The forerunner of the Vitaliani family of Padua, Italy was in turn the Vitellius family surname of Nocera, Italy (8 miles outside of the city of Pompei, Italy) a genealogical history which goes back to 292 B.C. The actual origin of the Vitaliani family branch which eventually became known as Borromeo is in the town of San Miniato, where a man with the given name of Lazzaro led a pilgrimage of 200,000 faithful on February 22, 1300. This was sponsored by Pope Bonifacio VIII, who defined the word Borromeo. The famous triple Borromean Rings represent the three northern Italian families Visconti, Sforza and Borromeo who, after much fighting, formed an inseparable union through intermarriage. The rings are also said to represent the Holy Trinity of God the Father, God the Son Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. These famous Borromean Rings are still in use to this very day as the official corporate logo of the Borromeo Business Group of the Philippines, which is based in the Visayan city of Cebu. Greater Cebu has a population of 3.0 million inhabitants. The extended Cebu City-based Borromeo family of the Philippines includes more than 1,401 individuals worldwide. The first Borromean ancestor who settled in Cebu City was born in Bacolod on the neighboring Visayan island of Negros in 1795. See more
