21.01.2022 Does anyone else meal plan for the week ahead? I've been trying to get into this routine lately, especially when it comes to breakfasts. I use to find breakfast so limiting. I would tell myself that I wasn't hungry as everything use to make me feel nauseated. It was a bit of a vicious cycle, I would wake up anxious and stressed so I wasn't hungry. Yet the sight of food in the morning often caused me further anxiety because of the way it made me feel.... It took a while but I had to train my brain and keep reminding myself that I was actually going to be ok if I ate in the morning. I'm so glad I no longer feel that way and can enjoy ALL THE THINGS!!! I love nothing more than a chia pudding but sometimes I even go for peanut butter on toast with fresh strawberries or blueberries, pumpkin seeds and coconut flakes on it. It is so good! One of my favourite hot breakfasts though are my One Pan Skillet Baked Eggs! I have a late afternoon PT session tomorrow, so these are looking like they are going to be my breakfast! 05.01.2022 MONDAY’S MINDFUL EATING TIP *Check in with your emotions while eating* How many of us can honestly say we have never emotionally eaten something before? Whether it be reaching for the block of chocolate and wine after a long exhausting day at work, or mindlessly opening the pantry and taking whatever you can get your hands on to numb the pain you might be feeling.... Many of us either deal or have dealt with this and I can say I have too. Mindfully checking in with our emotions around meals times can help up assess any negative emotions we might be feeling. Whether that be feelings of stress, pain, sadness, overwhelm, fear or something else. Not only can we understand our emotions around food, but we can also determine the correlation we have between our feelings and how we are using food to cope with these feelings. If you are find that you are emotionally eating. Know that it is ok. Especially during this season we find ourselves in as a world. Anxiety, fear and stress are at an all time high among people. So take the pressure off yourself and know that it is ok. However, it’s really important that you don’t find yourself stuck here. Stuck in a constant battle of mindlessly eating when you feel down and then feeling guilty about it. It can be a vicious cycle. One way to remove the guilt is to put into practice actually checking in with yourself, your mind, body and your emotions. Next time you walk over to your pantry, fridge etc. Stop, take a deep breath and ask yourself these questions (you might find it handy to keep them in a journal or in the notes app on your phone) 1. How am I feeling right now? 2. What emotions am I dealing with? 3. What situation has brought these emotions to the surface? It’s ok if you don’t have a definitive answer, but try to come up with a few reasons as to why you think you might be feeling this way 4. Am I wanting to eat this meal to deal with these emotions? 5. What’s one activity I can do right now to deal with how I am feeling that doesn’t involve this meal? This could be going for a walk, having a cup of calming tea, taking 10 deep belly breaths etc 6. Do I still want this meal after completing the above activity? If so then eat it, with no guilty feelings. Now there are no rules for this exercise. It’s simply a way to acknowledge and honour your emotions when it comes to food. No matter what you are feeling, there is no room for judgement. The objective of this exercise is to become more self aware, more aware of your emotional responses to food and as a result, develop a better understanding of your feelings and improving your relationship with food. Let me know if and how this has help you and if you want to see more Mindful Eating Tips in the future
