25.01.2022 BHP TO CREATE JOBS TO STEM THE JOB LOSS FROM CORONAVIRUS Today in the Australian Mining Review there was an article stating that BHP are planning on employing people for 6 months to assist those losing jobs due to the coronavirus. The jobs will be offered as six-month contracts, with roles spanning from machinery and production operators, truck and ancillary equipment drivers, excavator operators, diesel mechanics boilermakers, to trade assistants. The jobs will be spread across BHPs iron ore, coal and copper operations in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia. 23.01.2022 VIC INVESTS RECORD AMOUNT ON EXPLORATION IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2021 According to the ABS (Australia Bureau of Statistics), Victoria has set a new record for expenditure on exploration for new sites for minerals, spending $51.5 million. This is great news for Victoria as the search could yield great returns and major employment boost to the state. The March record comes as the Victorian Government, as part of their 2021/22, provided $35.7 million for the state’s resources sector... to assist with the increase of exploration approvals to attract further investment in the resources sector within the state. As for all states, the resources sector is vital to encourage economic growth stimulation and Jaclyn Symes,The Minister for Resources agrees - We’re making sure that efficient and responsible regulation of the sector goes hand in hand with the development of future sites including the local community in decision making and leaving a positive legacy, Symes said. Executive Director of the MCA (Minerals Council of Australia) also agreed that the minerals projects play an important role in the development of regional Victoria as it creates well paying jobs both directly and indirectly through people working on the mines and companies providing provisions and supplies for the mines. Areas that have been targeted for gold are Stawell, Bendigo and Ballarat. Sorohan also commented that Victoria’s mineral sands projects, including Kalbar Resources’ Fingerboards HMS Project near Bairnsdale, Donald Mineral Sands’ project near Minyip, VHM Limited’s project near Swan Hill and WIM Resources’ Avonbank Project near Horsham, have the potential to develop into a global hub for mineral sands (zircon and titanium) and rare earths, See more

23.01.2022 ANOTHER POSITIVE POST FROM BHP This report was in the Australian Mining Review today:- BHP will support regional communities facing significant challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic after pledging to set up a $50 million vital resources fund. This comes after the mining giant announced it was putting $100 million into small, local and Indigenous communities by accelerating payments, reducing payment terms from 30 days to seven and promising to employ a further 1500 Austr...alians. The spending will concentrate on BHPs key operational areas, such as central Queenslands Bowen Basin, Western Australias Pilbara and Goldfields regions, Roxby Downs and the upper Spencer Gulf in South Australia and the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. BHP chief executive officer Mike Henry said the company stands by the regional communities in which it operates and will continue to support them during the pandemic. With those communities facing significant challenges, we are stepping up in establishing the vital resources fund, which will provide support in a range of areas such as health services and resilience building, Henry said. We know COVID-19 (coronavirus) will require a significant collective response from governments, businesses, communities and individuals across Australia. We are determined to play our part as we work through this challenge together. Over the coming weeks, BHP will be working with the relevant local authorities, leaders and groups to best distribute the funds according to local needs. BHP anticipates the areas with the greatest need to be local and regional health networks, community mental health and resilience and social partners and community leaders of rural and remote Indigenous communities. Over the longer term, BHP also aims to work with local, state and national governments to increase resources and training available to jobseekers.

21.01.2022 A few more positive headlines from the Australian Mining Review for a Monday:- "CIMIC Group has delivered strong results for the 2020 March quarter, with its mining operations showing growth during the recent impact of COVID-19." "Australia to overtake China as worlds largest gold producer: Resources Monitor - The gold industry is faring well during the coronavirus pandemic that is affecting so many other industries around the world."... 19.01.2022 ADANI UPDATE FOR THOSE INTERESTED This information has come straight from the Australian Mining Review "Adani Mining has continued the construction of the Carmichael mine and rail project in Queensland, with employees working under strict coronavirus safety measures.... The company has awarded Australian rail company Martinus a civil construction contract worth over $220 million to build the rail requirements for the Carmichael mine. Under this contract, Martinus will deliver 86-kilometres of rail formation works, a road over rail bridge, nine waterway bridges, more than 200 culverts and 35 rail crossings. Adani Mining chief executive officer Lucas Dow said the Martinus contract would create about 600 jobs, which is more important than ever as the community braces for the economic shifts brought about by the coronavirus. Once construction is complete, the Carmichael mine will be one of 125 coal mines in Australia and in its first stage will produce 10 million tonnes of coal per annum. The civil construction contract is the second major package of works awarded to Martinus, following the $100 million contract announced in October 2019. As part of the earlier contract, Martinus was awarded the track works package to deliver approximately 200-kilometres of narrow-gauge rail from the Carmichael mine to the existing rail infrastructure. Martinus will base their workforce out of Rockhampton and Townsville, delivering a big win to regional Queenslanders and these local economies in particular, Dow said. Assembly of Adanis first mining trucks is now also complete, with two heavy vehicles having left Mackay to make the 300-kilometre trip to the Carmichael Mine site this week.

18.01.2022 HINT FOR JOB HUNTING - Did you know that most mines, mining contract companies and recruitment agencies have facebook pages. It would be worth following them as they will announce jobs on their facebook pages. Once you start to follow one, suggestions will come up for other pages. Do not follow the pages that are created by groups that are not companies that hire as they mostly have posts from people looking for work so they will not help. LINKED IN - Have you created a linked page? Alot of these companies also have linked in. Follow them on linked in to see what is happening (do not stress about how your linked in page looks as alot of them won't look at your page but use this as a tool to get insider information about the industry).

18.01.2022 RACHEL did our mining courses and got offered a number of jobs but chose to complete a diesel apprenticeship in mining. Click on the link to see her story:- https://youtu.be/LyRoIHBOC8c

17.01.2022 ENTRY LEVEL ROLES WITH RECRUITMENT AGENCIES Many students get frustrated from calling recruitment agencies (one in particular) who tell them that there are no entry level roles in mining. I would like to explain why this happens. The recruitment agencies are given the task of finding employees by the mines so if the mines don't ask that recruitment agency for any entry level employees then of course they are going to say there are no jobs out there for you. One of the major r...ecruitment agencies in Australia (that all of you would know and probably contact first) is constantly telling people that they wasted their money doing courses but I can tell you that when students contact us to tell us they got a job we do find out who they are working for and where they are going (but for privacy reasons we do not add it to the posts) HOWEVER there are many getting entry level roles with the actual recruitment agency that says there are no jobs so our main message here is DON'T GIVE UP and make the rejections give you more drive to get a job!! 16.01.2022 Yet another one - received a call to verify the machinery certs for Jared and spoke to him and found out he got a job within 2 weeks of completing our course and has operated dump trucks up to CAT 793. They are now going to start him in Water Carts. Good on you Jared

16.01.2022 QUEENSLANDERS TAKE NOTE - Due to covid-19 and the reduction in flight availability from other states, mines are struggling to get their workers from interstate to their sites so they are trying to employ entry level dump truck drivers now to fill their places - various companies such as BHP, Downer EDI, Thiess etc. Act NOW and get your tickets and don't miss out.

16.01.2022 BHP are working hard to keep their workers safe from coronavirus. "BHP has continued to implement stringent measures across its operating assets to reduce the risks of the coronavirus. This is done on the back of the awareness that mining and petroleum operations do not give much opportunity for employees to work from home.... As a minimum, the controls that BHP has in place follow governments, world experts and health authorities guidelines, according to the companys group health and safety executive (HSE) officer, Rob Telford. With the controls were implementing we are confident that our workplaces are safe, he said. We are working to implement further controls at our operated sites and offices in real time against a fast moving backdrop, and we are working hard to make sure we have the necessary supplies and equipment to maintain safe and health working areas for our people. BHP intends to continue conducting regular audits on its safety controls and determine additional improvements that are required. The worlds largest miner has already implemented social distancing at its sites, camps and offices, limited gatherings of people, banned international travel and increased flexible rostering. BHP has also reduced the number of people on planes, buses and in vehicles and performed temperature checks and surveys before boarding company operated planes and buses. Further, people at BHP mine sites are now limited to critical employees and contractors only. To comply with state and national border closures, BHP has relocated people temporarily and is increasing personal hygiene protocols for its heavy equipment, trucks and light vehicles."

15.01.2022 We wrote about Kerry gaining a job and we asked her to answer some questions. In one of the answers she gave some really good advice that we want to share :- Is there anything else that you think it would be good to tell someone who is just starting out in the industry that you would have liked to have known? "Be prepared to apply for jobs all over Australia and be flexible. Just keep applying, even to the same company over and over again. I applied for three prior jobs with... the company that ended up employing me". 14.01.2022 Rio Tinto has created more than 300 jobs to support its iron ore business in Western Australia. For more information, go to the Australian Mining Review

14.01.2022 Here is another question and answer:- Why did you decide to do training before trying to get a job? "Just seemed like a no brainer. Once I decided to make the change I wanted to do everything I could to make it happen as quickly as possible. When you look at the cost compared to what you can earn it pays for itself in a couple of weeks. i also think it gave me confidence to know that even though I was starting as a trainee I was starting ahead of the game."

13.01.2022 WOO HOO Millie!!! It took awhile and a relocation to Mt Isa but finally Millie got her foot in the door. It just goes to show that "thinking outside the box" works

12.01.2022 Just got off the phone from Chris who told us on Friday that he had been offered a job (had also been offered one in WA that could not go ahead due to border restrictions). He has called today to say he has been offered another one. Most people who have got jobs can understand that as the same thing happened to alot of them.

11.01.2022 FEEDBACK FROM A SUCCESSFUL STUDENT - Here is some feedback from a student on his experience with getting work in the mine. Hi Michelle... Just wanted to say thanks and share my experience with you. Back at the start of February I started work with a winning services company that contracts to a large iron ore mine in the Pilbara. Having been there for a number of month now I often reflect on just how good the overall experience was at My Solution Training. The people were absolutely fantastic. Not only was I well prepared to start as a trainee dump truck driver, I was well prepared for life in the mine camp and to present in a manner that was going to help me transition into my new career. I think this is largely due to the experience of the people you have conducting the training, they helped me realise that fitting into the FIFO lifestyle was as important as my ability to perform the role. There are 2 other people that have started at the site I work at that trained with MST as well and my observation is that they have made a good transition as well. We all started with no winning experience and having trained at the same place it has given us a good connection. It did take me a while and a lot of applications before I actually received an offer of employment. I did at times question whether I would get an offer or not. Having been through the experience now I understand that the support and advice that I received from you was invaluable and sting to your guide was what ultimately gave me success. As you suggested in the end I was just applying for everything and in many cases multiple times. I set up profiles with all the mines, labour hire and contract service providers that I could find. I had a routine where I would get up early go through the email alerts and spend an hour or two every morning just applying for jobs. I did have a couple of personal consultants call me and in a a nice way they were telling me not to waste my time applying for jobs that required experience. Fortunately I did not let that put me off and I persisted. I remembered you telling me that the people who didnt get jobs it was because they gave up too soon and didnt stick to the plan. Any way it was in the ten days before Christmas that I received a call from a large mining services contractor for a phone interview for one of their subsidury companies. The guide you had given me for the interview process proved invaluable, I was well prepared for most of the questions that I was asked and very shortly after the phone interview I was offered a job subject to passing a medical. As you suggested right at the beginning I was more likely to get a job applying directly to the employer rather than a labour hire firm or a personal consultant. It makes sense, why would an employer pay someone to find an employee with no experience! Any way thanks again for the great advice and the support throughout the process. Cheers David

11.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS UPDATE We just want to reassure all students that our training will continue to take place and we are taking every precautionary measure to ensure that no student's health is compromised.

11.01.2022 ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY - CONGRATULATIONS KERRY Im finally employed!!!! Throw another sticker on that photo board of yours!!! I just wanted to let you know I am now working in WA driving trucks and loving it! In fact Im working alongside another Solutions Training student Richard who I believe did the course around the same time I did. After about 50 applications to everywhere and anywhere I finally got an offer. ... Thank you for not only the training course but your wonderful resume, which I have to say opened the doors to two engagement centre interviews with BHP and one of which I have had a medical for with the possibility of an apprenticeship. I am loving where I am and enjoy getting on that truck every shift. Thank you again.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Amy who fulfilled her goal of entering mining. Here is what she had to say:- Hi Michelle, Just wanted to update the MySolution team that since I did my Haul Truck, Water Cart and S11 last October, I have secured full time permanent employment directly by BHP.... My new job is a Process Operator in the Processing Plant. They gave me a choice on which field I wanted to go in and I decided this was best for me. I just finished my first swing which is 7/7 fifo and loved it. I made friends fast and even though I was nervous, I actually love the mining culture from people on my crew and new mates at camp. You guys not only helped me get out of my comfort zone but gave me an idea of what I was walking into. Adrian and his team are amazing and doing training with your company was the start of a new beginning for me, and couldnt have come at a better time with whats happening around the world. Ive already recommended one friend who did his training last fortnight with you guys! Thanks heaps!! Amy

10.01.2022 LITHIUM MINE IN NT GETS APPROVAL This Report is direct from Australian Mining Review "Core Lithium has received a mine management plan approval from the Northern Territory Government to build the Finniss lithium project near Darwin.... Once operational, the plant will be the first lithium mine and production facility in Northern Territory. The Finniss lithium project will create more than 200 direct full-time jobs in the Northern Territory, additional employment in South Australia. The resources sector is going to play a huge role in our recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, and the milestone achieved by the Finniss lithium project is very good news. First production is expected approximately a year after project construction starts and Core is planning to export 175,000 tonnes per annum of high-quality lithium concentrate. Biggins said the enterprise is in line with Australias broader federal priorities on sourcing critical minerals particularly in the viable production of more renewable energy. The Australian government has identified the importance of critical minerals and in cementing the countrys role as the number one lithium producer in the world. Cores focus now turns to present a strong update to the Feasibility Study by the middle of this year, which were confident will potentially double or possibly triple the life of the Finniss lithium project and dramatically increase project economics, Biggins concluded.

07.01.2022 Another great tip from someone who got a job and filled out our questionnaire - What steps did you take to get a job? Where did you look? "Pretty much followed your plan and treated the process like a job. Most mornings I started at between 5.00am and 5.30 am and worked at job hunting for an hour or 2. For me this was a not negotiable every morning. Looked in all the places your guide suggested and believed that if I persisted eventually I would be successful" THOSE THAT PERSIST ARE THE ONES WHO WILL BE SUCCESSFUL - Never forget that.

Today, I am pleased to be at our Cloudbreak mine where we awarded the first contract under billion opportunities in 2011, to reflect on the fantastic achievements of this program. 01.01.2022 Clyde's response to our Recruitment Agency post:- Clyde Barrow Clyde Barrow I was one of them. After some advice from Michelle. I rang them (they were the first one I phoned and not online) about a Haul Truck job. We got talking and while I didnt suit that role (experience- 6months min) they have slotted me into something thats better paying and suits me better and I have three years experience in, just not in an active mine, letter of competency from a previous employer a...nd wham bam Afghanistan. I felt (at the time) the Dump Truck RII was maybe a waste of time. But Ive come to realise, it looks good on the resume (without this I wouldnt have got a look in either) and another notch in the belt. The S11s were definitely worthwhile as I could do all the bridging inductions online at home. I applied for around 80-100 Jobs before something come up. I was offered two positions in WA but couldnt proceed as missed the cut off for CoVid-19 and then in quick succession two offers from QLD (one I forget Id even applied for online) If I can do this anyone can. DO NOT Give up if its really what you want. The Training and RIIs gave me a pretty good idea what too expect. And with alot of advice and help from Michelle including Resume (10/10 would recommend) etc it helped no end. From the time I completed the Courses and then another week for my Resume it basically took me two months too get a Job and complete a Coal Board Medical and bridging inductions. However theres an enormous amount of work you need to do at home as well. Like literally days worth. Completing online profiles for all the majors. Trawling through Seek and other online job networks, Ringing alot of different ones as well. Applying for a National Police Check and alot of other incidental stuff. I talked with a few friends I have around Australia in a multitude of different mining jobs and different minerals as well. I found this Recruitment Mob and Seek the most helpful aside from the West Australian Recruitment Mob that gave me my first non start. Never sell yourself short. Be confident it goes along way.
