24.01.2022 MYSTERY BOX RALLY 2020 UPDATE To our awesome family and followers, 1 month ago things were looking really good for us to rally in 2020, but last week we made a very hard, but the correct decision, to postpone the rally for this year until 2021.... Due to border closures, state limitations on group numbers and the health of our rally teams and their families, the remote communities we work with as stopovers and the communities we travel through, this was unfortunately the only outcome. 3 months is the minimum we would need to ensure a well-prepared rally is delivered to all rally teams with most of the pre-organisation already done. Plus, enough time for rally teams to fully prepare for their trip and their vehicle and conduct remaining fundraising. Therefore we needed a clear path to ensure we could go ahead. As we have seen with the recent COVID outbreaks and the border closures we do not have that clear path. We will soon launch and announce the dates for Shitbox Rally Autumn 2021, then Mystery Box Rally 2021 and Shitbox Rally Spring 2021 in the coming months. The routes will remain the same and all teams that are shown on the website have qualified to transfer to the 2021 rallies. Spots for new teams will be available in all rallies. We thank you for your patience and support for what is a trying and sad time with no rallies at all in 2020. Here’s to 2021! 21.01.2022 "Arguably the most prestigious car manufactured in 1987 was the luxury Nissan Pintara wagon." Rockhampton locals, Ben and Ryan from Team 'Train Wrecks', first time Mystery Box Ralliers chatted to us about the rally in August. "In 2017 my Grandfather passed away after fighting throat cancer for 4 years. When he was diagnosed, he set it upon himself to go and enjoy Australia and explore the places he’d always wanted to go. ... Grandad was in the navy and managed the Nullarbor Roadhouse for many years. He also travelled from Rockhampton, Qld to Ceduna, SA in a horse and cart which took him 14 months. He raised thousands of dollars of which he donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Needless to say he loved the country and loved an adventure. The car he had at the time he was diagnosed was a 1987 Nissan Pintara wagon. He built a small trailer and had draws and water tanks ready to install but unfortunately as his health deteriorated he never finished it. It laid dormant in his shed for the next 2 years. After receiving confirmation of our rally acceptance I told my Grandmother about it and that we now needed to find a 25 year old car to do it in. Not even thinking about Pops Pintara in the back shed, she said to use that! With a quick clean and fresh fuel the Pintara wagon was purring. We are doing this rally in honour of my Grandfather, to fulfil his dream of seeing the country side whilst raising funds to hopefully save someone else from having to deal with the disease. Our team name ‘Train Wrecks’ comes from our job as train drivers. We also both live a fairly carefree happy go lucky lifestyle with a whatever happens, happens attitude hence the wrecks. We are hoping the rally goes due west of Rockhampton. We travel that way for work and know the small rural communities are doing it rough and would love the support of Mystery Box Rally going through their towns." See you in Rocky Fellas! 16.01.2022 It's Acceptance Day for Mystery Box Rally 2021 Teams! Keep your eyes glued to your email..... GOOD LUCK!
15.01.2022 The Box Rallies Family couldn’t be prouder of its founder, James Freeman who was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia yesterday for his service to the community through fundraising. The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement. James’ OAM is a great personal honour because his late father John was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to aviation. James started the rally in memory... of his parents who both passed away from Cancer within 12 months of each other. It really is an incredible honour and I am extremely grateful to everyone from the rallies over the years that have supported what we have done and continue to strive towards. said James Box Rallies is a credit to the participants. Everyone is a giver. For someone who came up with this crazy idea and 11 years on the rallies have raised over $23 million (and counting!) for Cancer research, we really hope you are proud. From all of us James, congratulations.
15.01.2022 Update from Box Rallies on the plan for 2020 due to COVID-19 A week ago we announced that due to COVID-19, Mystery Box Rally 2020 would be moved 2 months back to commence on October 3rd instead of August 1st. The start and finish line is unchanged....Rockhampton... The route.....well, that's still a MYSTERY! All rally participants have been notified and assured that the quality of the rallies we deliver to them will not suffer because of this. In times like these, the Rally family comes together. We truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the messages of support and understanding during these difficult times. Please stay safe From the Team at Box Rallies
13.01.2022 **2020 PUB NIGHTS** We love them! This week participants in Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide met up to listen to James speak about this years 3 rallies. It's such a fantastic night for newbies and oldies to get together and ask questions on how the rally works and this years routes....except for Mystery Box! ... New friendships start to form, fundraising ideas are shared and the excitement certainly starts to build. Are you interested in adding your details to our database to find out about future rallies? 13.01.2022 Early yesterday morning we lost one of our own to the horrors of cancer. Brendon Foyle came to us in 2017 with a mission to be one of our Support Crews. His first rally was Shitbox Rally 2018 and he never looked back, signing up and completing every Shitbox and Mystery Box Rally from then until now. Knowing and understanding the seriousness of his illness he said to me he wanted to do as many rallies as he could, while he could. Well sir, you did just that.... Brendon was a kind hearted, incredibly generous man and he will be missed. Rolling out on the next rally won't be the same. To honour Brendon and in light of the current situation we invite all of our Rally family, friends and followers to join us on Tuesday 31st March at 5pm to 'raise a glass in memory of Brendon'. We will set up a post on this page and you can add your photo or video and note for Brendon. RIP mate. #thisiswhywerally
10.01.2022 REGISTRATIONS ARE OPEN FOR 2021! We are chasing the warmth by starting and finishing in Rockhampton, QLD. On Saturday 31st July, teams of two will tackle a five-day driving route, where each night’s stop-over will only be unveiled to them each morning. Cars must be older than 25 years, roadworthy with no 4WD or AWD and teams must raise a minimum of $3,500 to participate. The finish line will be back in Rockhampton on Wednesday 4th August 2021. ... Why Rockhampton? After visiting one of the colder places in Australia on the 2019 rally, for 2021 we are chasing the warmth by starting and finishing in Rockhampton. Rocky opens up a huge and very diverse area we can travel through, visit and support. Working with another regional location helps to spread the word of what we are doing, what our mission is and the funds we raise with a target of $1,000,000 for Cancer Research! Mystery Box Rally is not a race, but a reward for fundraising efforts. All of our Rallies are so much fun, but Mystery Box keeps delivering year after year with more and more people returning to participate. James Freeman, founder of Box Rallies said. Please go to www.mysteryboxboxrally.com.au and click on the REGISTER NOW button and follow the prompts. Good Luck! #mysteryboxrally #cancercouncil
09.01.2022 Very sadly, members of our rally family were badly affected by the recent fires, with one team losing their home. Most of these teams worked with their community fighting the fires and the huge clean-up efforts which will continue on for a very long time. On top of this, they are trying to fundraise for rallies they are participating in this year. How can you help? This year, all profits from the Box Rallies shop will go to these teams to help them reach their fundraising tar...get. So please visit our website and purchase an awesome t-shirt, hoodie, sticker, mug or bag (there's lots more there!) so we can help these teams out: https://shop.boxrallies.com Thank you Are you interested in adding your details to our database to find out about future rallies?
