25.01.2022 Those of us who work in culture and #heritage tourism know that whose stories get to be told is an important part of the story. So thrilled that the home of Noor Inayat Khan will get a blue plaque celebrating the life of this amazing and brave woman. I first encountered her in Sarah Helm's book about the women agents of SOE and was stunned. A character who wrote children's stories and couldn't tell a lie and was a pacifist she bravely worked behind enemy lines and resisted arrest. Blue plaques are always a great way to navigate places or uncover stories and next time I am in London I definitely plan to visit this one - and the statue of her!

24.01.2022 Never underestimate the power of nostalgia! This may be our favourite #pivot!

22.01.2022 Part 3 of our discussion with Travelling Life on the future of tourism. It's a good reminder that sometimes open questions are the best for identifying directions. Did we get it right? What's the future that you see?

14.01.2022 too often we find this is true...

14.01.2022 there has never been a more important time to think #innovation in #travel and #tourism. But where do you start? How do you do it? Join us to find out the answers at this week's TTRA webinar.. https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/regist/2748277001533328653

13.01.2022 This sounds pretty scary for the cruise industry until you remember that in 2018 the market penetration for cruising in Australia - whilst the highest in the world - was around 5.8% of the population (source CLIA Australasia 2018). I wonder how many of those older Aussies (or Aussies generally) who said they would 'never cruise again' had actually cruised or were truly in the market to cruise? There clearly is reputational damage to deal with for the industry but I know that there is a core of cruisers who are already booking - at least that's what Cruisecritic reckons. I guess we'll have to wait to learn more as things change to find out how bad the damage really is

12.01.2022 Would love your thoughts on travel to the US. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MTRUSSurvey Carolyn

11.01.2022 Not all #innovation has to be huge step change. Often solving a small problem in a lateral way can be powerful. This is a great example to help solve some truly #wickedproblems equitable access to a better climate future and thus climate change... Love it!

10.01.2022 If it's Halloween it must be time to chat Dark #tourism again! Dr Christina Hagger and I explored this topic this week on Radio Adelaide. Is Dark Tourism for you? Or do you think it's inappropriate... Listen in and tell us what you think! Women In Tourism (Australia) KARRYON

07.01.2022 We've signed the #saveaussietourism petition. We thought long and hard about doing so. Not (obviously) because we don't want to save our industry! As our name suggests we are tourism tragics and powerful believers in what responsible #tourism can do for communities. It was more a concern that right now there are a million people telling politicians what to do. It is a complex balancing act where there are many more ways to get it right than wrong. Being a good citizen... is important to our sector's survival too! We also know that there is no straight trade off between the economy and health. The evidence is growing more cogent for this every day. The tipping point on signing was chatting to friends in our industry and reading the letter. It is balanced and nuanced, not a blanket demand to re-open the borders but for a sober, evidence-based and consistent approach that builds confidence and predictability. We urge everyone in - or who cares about - tourism to do the same. https://saveaustraliantourism.com/ #TogetherInTravel

07.01.2022 Join us (and the Indian Travel Trade) this week to get #inspo on restarts.

05.01.2022 The two museum model was always going to be the best one and relieved that this has finally been recognised. With a fast growing population seeing it as an either/or rather than a both/and is vital to our community. The Powerhouse in Ultimo is an internationally recognised example of good practice... Phew! and Yay!

04.01.2022 A little bit of #Fridayfun those of you how are outside Australia won't know the chain BakersDelight but you might still enjoy this lighthearted ad. It's also a timely reminder that simple and clever are not oxymorons in marcomms. No fancy gimmicks, but a focus on building on solid memory foundations to provide reassurance at a time of uncertainty. The company's brand tropes (bakers having fun in the back of the shop, the music, etc) are all there building what Byron Sharp calls distinctiveness, whilst its tied to the current trend (we would say fad under the MyTravelResearch.com laws of trends) for flashmobs and also the ever fresh trend of nostalgia.

04.01.2022 Whoops... last week I shared a chat with Dr. Christina Heggar on Radio Adeliaide's travelling life. Anyone who knows me knows that I can talk under wet cement about the future of travel but apparently our pre-recorded chat went for 3 episodes and I previously only shared episode 2! Episode 3 is this week, but I wanted to go back to the #future and share part one. Do I have it right? What's your view on the future of travel #togetherintravel

03.01.2022 MyTravelResearch.com had a lot of fun chatting with Travelling Life on what are the mega trends. Hear the at 6pm ADL time or listen here

03.01.2022 This is #fridayfun but - just as we like it here it has a serious point. This fabulous competition from Byron at Byron, a Crystalbrook Collection Resort arrived in my inbox this morning. Nobly resisting the temptation to tell no one I thought I would share it as a fabulous example of how to do both the Long and the Short of #tourism marketing... It brings together the hottest trends in #luxury #travel with the brand positioning of its home destination #byronbay which has the highest proportion of creatives and is a beacon of sustainability. I see a lot of promotions but this really hit the spot... with #sustainable clothing, #wellness elements How could you ride the zeitgeist, build your database and your brand using this as #inspo? https://www.crystalbrookcollection.com/win

01.01.2022 Friday Fun: the Ig Nobel Prizes for 2020 are out. It's one of our favourite awards .. If you aren't aware of the Ig Nobels they are 30 years old and are awarded for projects that first make you laugh and then make you think. We know that this is actually a great way to make information 'sticky'. Our favourite this year is the Medical Education Prize... awarded to governments who are testing public health by ignoring the science... which is yours?? https://www.improbable.com/ig-about/winners/

01.01.2022 I wouldn't say this is so much #fridayfun as #fridayuplift ... Noor Inayat Khan is a true heroine and her life deserves recognistion. One more place to visit in Bloomsbury
