25.01.2022 Symptoms: Plan: prn, & , One way of getting the message across, although a few points of clarification may be in order.

24.01.2022 While Australians want to know how their health data is used, would it be fair to extrapolate from this and presume they would like a say in where their medical information is sent? With the increasing trend to outsource medical transcription, the choice of a reliable provider is important. Sending data overseas can be a risky proposition, not bound by Australian privacy protection laws. My Typing Service is proudly Australian with local transcriptionists. Can we help you?

23.01.2022 I guess we should have seen this one coming. Pros and cons for both sides of the argument. However, informed consent is the key.

21.01.2022 Physicians spend an estimated 34% to 78% of their work day creating notes and reviewing medical records in the EHR, costing an estimated $90 to $140 billion in physician time per year. The claim is that An AI enabled auto-scribing platform can allow physicians to focus on patient care and minimize computer time, while generating accurate, evidence-based clinical notes that have increased analytical value, Well, it can. But does it? ... AI still has a way to go. VR software is, as yet, unable to accurately record conversation, or clinical jargon, or put either of these into context. This requires clinician time to review or the use of a Medical Documentation Specialist.

21.01.2022 Time to get a new resource. There are a few new standards I'm interested in reviewing in this new edition. Style guides and standards improve readability and communication and ensure consistency, not just within one document, but across all the documents your business produces. If you don't have your own style guide, this is my go-to resource for all things medical. What sections are you interested in?

19.01.2022 A few weeks ago I was liaising with a fellow MT as we'd been asked to create a flow diagram by a mutual clients outlining all the little steps incolved in creating a document within their EMR software. Well it took a while and about six drafts as as we discovered that most of what we do is now so automatic that we don't even think about all the small steps that are required to create one simple document. And just when we thought we'd finished we remembered a step we missse...d and we had to go back and insert it. While many think we just listen, type what is dictated, and that's all there is to it, the reality is the transcription process is much more complicated. What's interesting - and quite surprising - to note is that the "typing" occurs only in the step that's shaded yellow! Everything else is all the other steps involved in generating a professional document. And that's not even going into all knowledge and steps required within the yellow box. Way to much for this little post.

18.01.2022 Today is World Emoji Day. Love them or hate them, emojis are here to stay. With a Unicode all their own, there are officially characters that can be used in everyday language and across multiple platforms. Prior to the Unicoding, a could be received as - or worse yet . Oops! ... While they may not be appropriate for all written communication settings, they certainly help clarify meaning when tone of voice or body language is not available to assist. Emojis are evolving every day. This year several new emojis including many representing inclusivity - have been given their own code. Got an idea for a new emoji? Why not submit your own proposal?

18.01.2022 Mary Poppins, you've been replaced. Specifically designed for teenage boys.

17.01.2022 One of my client's made this comment the other day. Hmmm, I wonder if that makes me a vaccine?

14.01.2022 Wow! Love technology.

14.01.2022 Unfortunately IT health breaches occur world wide. A timely reminder to review your IT security protocols on a regular basis and update them if needed.

14.01.2022 For years transcriptionists have been making up list of how not to dictate. On the surface, these may appear tongue-in-cheek, a bit of a laugh. However, posts in many support/chat groups indicate that many of these bad habits are not just alive and well, they are thriving! The thing is, if you can address these issues, your final transcript will be more complete and require less edits by you when we return the document to you.... While I hope you get a chuckle out of these, remember that they all happen more often than you might think. Feel free to use this as a guide on what not to do in your dictations.

13.01.2022 Timing can be everything. This article came up today just as I'd finished talking to a fellow transcriptionist about a processes flow diagram we'd been asked to create. Our mutual client would like our assistance to help refine processes for all their clinicians and staff. We're now into the third draft, as we've discovered that most of what we do is now so automatic that we don't even think about all the small steps that are required to create one simple document. ... While many think we just listen, type what is dictated, and that's all there is to it, the reality is the transcription process is much more complicated.

13.01.2022 While I appreciate all the newer definitions, some ring truer than others

10.01.2022 And right there! There is where you just lost my sale! I've just seen a sponsored advert on one of the popular social media sites. As most people tend to scroll through their feed with the volume on mute, you need to have subtitles on your video to get your message across. However, it became quite clear that, while the company was willing to spend plenty to get their message out there, they couldn't be bothered to spend a little bit extra on geftting their subtitles profe...ssionall transcribed, or even proofread. They went with the cheap voicewreck option. How do I know? The subtitles spelled the company name wrong!

10.01.2022 Two VR programs in 12 months and still no success. "...voice recognition technology works well for simple cases, but a different product is required for more complex cases". Maybe they need to consider returning to the tried and true option of utilising the services of a health documentation specialist to avoid a backlog.

10.01.2022 It's Punctuation Day! A day to celebrate those quirky little marks that help us make sense of the written word.

09.01.2022 Wishing everyone a joyous and safe festive season. And here's hoping that all the items on your gift list were spelled correctly.

09.01.2022 Can't wait to see what technology brings out next

08.01.2022 A shout out to all the MTs out there during National Transcripionist Awareness Week. As trained Healthcare Documentation Specialists and Medical Transcriptionists, we can assist you by providing risk management support when documenting healthcare encounters. We can ensure your records are documented and formatted in a way that promotes clinical clarity and coordinated care. Our knowledge and training ensures the accurate documentation of the care you provide your patient as well as the ability to identify gaps, errors, and inconsistencies in your record that could potentially compromise your care. Aren't we amazing!

07.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what the difference is between A4 and US paper sizes? Or how they came up with those measurements in the first place? This article touches on some of the whys - and also relates to the medical transcription industry and the line count calculations.

07.01.2022 "I can type at 100 wpm with 98% accuracy." Accuracy - or lack thereof - when doing medical transcription can have far more serious consequences to a general typo, and has a different standard.

07.01.2022 Complete computer crash last week that required a complete factory reset. BUT Managed to recover all my documents. All backup systems work. My spare/holiday 'office' works. In getting everything up and running again, I got to cross off several items from my "I'll get around to that one day" list. ... I'm calling that a win!

06.01.2022 An interesting read. Health documentation specialists, whether it be transcriptionists or editors, can make a significant impact on the time required by the clinician to review their documentation.

06.01.2022 It's amazing how the format of one tiny letter can make a big difference.

03.01.2022 You learn something new every day! I've just found out I've been misunderspelling a word for years (now that's going to be a hard habit to break!)

03.01.2022 What to do when your headphones pack it in midshift? Well I guess all their paraphernalia associated with having teenage boys addicted to video games should be good for something. Headphones are a bit heavy but the noise-cancelling effect is amazing!

03.01.2022 Outsourcing is not for everyone. However, for those contemplating the options, here's something to think about.

02.01.2022 Weve always been taught to use a question mark at the end of a question. But is that always the case? (haha, sorry). Well, no. There are instances where the question mark should be placed in the middle of the sentence. And sometimes not at all - even if they are dictated. Question marks are used at the end of a direct question.... Will you help me? So following this rule, if the direct question is in the middle of a sentence, then thats where the punctuation mark goes. Will you help me? she asked. Rhetorical questions are questions that are more of a statement or exclamation than a question. They dont usually require, or expect, an answer. Therefore no question mark is needed. Would you kids knock it off! Why dont you take a break. Indirect questions are questions contained within a statement. Again, no question mark. I wonder if you would forward me his results. Many dictators forget the question mark, or put one in where it's not needed. My Typing Service will ensure the correct punctuation is inserted - or deleted - as needed and in the correct place.

01.01.2022 It was just like Christmas. All my rebranding and marketing resources arrived today. Thanks to Michell from Lilt Design and at Cat Holmes - Public from Benchmark Business Coaching for getting me this far (late, but I made it ) An extra bonus is all the bubble wrap to keep my boys entertained
