25.01.2022 I can't resist the lure of "treasure hunting" while I'm on holidays... can you? I found this lovely vintage Maltese cross pendant recently while I was travelling in regional Victoria and South Australia. It needed some TLC (basically a good clean and some missing rhinestones replaced) and now it's ready to be worked into a new design.... The next stage in my process is to gather some pieces together that might lend themselves to the design I have in mind. Here you can see I've grouped some orphaned earrings from the 1960s, vintage Czech glass cube beads, preloved chains and new Chrysoprase beads which I think will work well together. Tomorrow these lovlies will be off to my workshop to start their new life

25.01.2022 Tomorrow I'll be packing for the first creators market held upstairs at Gloria café at 391 Sydney Road Brunswick. The market is designed for local creatives, artists and makers. It's my first market back in my local area for18 months, so I am very excited! I'd love to see some familiar faces there I'm going to have fun choosing which of my upcycled vintage earrings and other handmade goodies with a vintage twist to take with me. Usually I select items for a market based on my knowledge of previous events, so tomorrow I'm just going to pack what I like best

23.01.2022 Today I finished a project that I started some weeks ago, but put aside because I was going away on a road trip for a couple of weeks. So now that I'm back in lockdown I've been reflecting on some of the things I achieved in the last 12 months. For those of you that don't already know me, I'm Meagan and I love making new jewellery from old! I repurpose pieces of broken vintage costume jewellery as well as vintage findings in my creations. ... As well as creating, I've been learning new skills to help build my online business. As a result I've thought more deeply about how to be sustainable. I've always thought of my work as environmentally sustainable, but realised that I hadn't thought much about how it might be socially sustainable. One of the social issues that concerns me is food insecurity, so I've now partnered with Foodbank so that I can feel good about my work and do good at the same time. Discover more on my website

16.01.2022 I wish a Merry Christmas to you all! May you all have an opportunity to spend some time with the ones you love this Christmas After a tumultuous year of ups and downs, let's hope that 2021 brings all of us some good cheer. To my customers, friends, fellow stallholders, market organisers, the cubefam and everyone who has shown interest in my work during the year, THANK YOU

14.01.2022 I was cleaning up my workshop today and came across a broken brooch set with an Agate. (We are looking at the back because the reflections were too bright on the domed surface of the stone). It has such beautiful colouring that it made me curious... After some research on the net I discovered it to be Botswana Agate. It has the most delicious bands of pink, grey, soft brown and apricot, and the dark spot is full of visible crystals. Of course I stopped my clean-up immediately and started looking for some vintage beads to combine with it. I think these soft coffee coloured beads from a broken stranded necklace are just what I need

11.01.2022 Would you have guessed this dramatic photo dates from 1986? It is a vintage advertisement from the Monet Jewelry Company. Vintage advertisements are a great way to help date pieces of vintage costume jewellery.... and yes it was special finding this image because I have one of these brooches ... ... and it’s available at the fab #emuplainsmarket tomorrow! You’ll also find many wonderful makers there to help you complete your Christmas shopping
