15.01.2022 Deadlift Fix [Quick Tip] . Vertical shin angle is one of the key things I look for when assessing a deadlift. It is essential for a safe and efficient lift. . When assessing the shin angle it is quite common to see the shins want to travel forwards as we bend over to lift up the bar. . This does a couple of things:... . By having your shins on a forward angle it creates a further distance for the bar to travel. It has to go out past your knees and then come back in as you start to stand up. When lifting anything you want to keep the weight as close to the body as possible to generate more power and move the weight more efficiently. . The other reason is safety. By having to move the weight further from your body you are loading up your back muscles significantly. We know that by increasing load significantly in a short period of time is a recipe for injury . One of the easiest cues I find is as simple as ‘sit back on the toilet’ this automatically makes the person sit further back into the lift which then drag their knees back. .
