25.01.2022 Yerin Eleanor Duncan Aboriginal Health Services hosted a morning tea on National Sorry Day, May 26. At the morning tea, staff and visitors were interviewed about what National Sorry Day meant to them. Today is a very special day to us I was reared by my Elders which was a real privilege, they taught me about my land and my culture, said Aunty Maddie McGrady. We need to get more culture into this country, today was a sad day for me because of what happened in 2008 when the... government said sorry, nothing has happened since. I just wish today that everybody would accept the truth about this country, that it was invaded, and it was colonised so accept the truth Australia, she said. Another morning tea at the Health Service was held on May 27 to mark the start of Reconciliation Week. Read the full story in Coast Community News below. #NRW2021

21.01.2022 Regional people with cancer are working with Cancer Council WA, as part of the Find Cancer Early campaign, to highlight common cancer symptoms and encourage other regional Western Australians to visit their doctor, clinic nurse or Aboriginal health worker if they notice anything unusual with their body. Research shows that people living in regional Australia are 20-30 per cent more likely to die within five years of a cancer diagnosis than people living in metropolitan areas.... When cancer is found in the early stages, it can often be easily removed or treated. In cases where the cancer has spread, treatment becomes more difficult and the person's chances of survival may not be as good. That is why it is so important for regional people, particularly those over the age of 40, to know how to spot possible early symptoms of cancer and what to do if they find them.
