05.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020! This year's theme is 'Always Was, Always Will Be' which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent as natural resource managers for over 65,000 years. The adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled Indigenous Australians to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels.... Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty, sustainably providing for their future. Wherever you live, you can take part in NAIDOC Week celebrations by clicking the link below! https://www.indigenous.gov.au/regional-offices/list-view #NAIDOC2020 National NAIDOC #NAIDOCWeek

05.01.2022 How awesome are these snaps from our Kayak Tour through Kalbarri National Park over the weekend? Our Bushcare Officer Jarna led the tour of keen explorers who were on the hunt for the elusive Black-flanked Rock-wallaby! Stay tuned for the November edition of NACC Notes for a full recap of the day!

04.01.2022 G'day from Coomallo! Today I'm visiting a well known Carnaby's Black Cockatoo breeding site north of Badgingarra as part of the NAR Carnaby Project! Our Programs & Operations Manager Kane has joined me and together we've been learning from Rick Dawson of the Australia Black Cockatoo Specialists. I was lucky enough to be able to climb up and inspect some artificial nesting hollows - so cool!... Not only were Kane and I able to learn all about these beautiful birds, we also both jumped at the opportunity to cuddle up to some fledglings. I'm really looking forward to more of these artificial nesting sites being established across the Northern Ag Region and hopefully with regular monitoring, we will see these Carnabys successfully breeding and growing in numbers! Stay tuned for more project updates, Jarna Bushcare Officer This project is funded by the Australian Government.

04.01.2022 Morning all, Annabelle checking in! This week Liz and I escaped the office to explore the Northern Ag Region and hang out with some awesome locals! Our first stop was Perenjori for the Digging Deeper Permaculture Workshop with the Moore Catchment Council and Fiona from Gaia Permaculture.... We had a fantastic time learning about saving water, nutrient cycling, healthy plants, IPM (integrated pest management), food production, soils and weeds. All participants got a chance to get their hands dirty and test their own soils. Fiona walked us through some easy tests to do at home to work out your soil type- looking at your soil structure, pH etc. It was a great workshop and we look forward to working in the permaculture space further. Thanks to Rachel and Fiona for having us! We then headed out to visit some local Kalannie farmers who submitted a successful National Landcare Program Smart Farms grant. These landholder legends have been busily planting reveg and looking seriously at soil amelioration and improving 'run down' agricultural land. We are very excited to see how the project goes and share some of their successes with you in the future. Last but not least, we called in on the team at Westbeef Feedlot to discuss some management options for their unproductive saline land. We're really optimistic about the future of their land and look forward to speaking with them more and seeing what they decide to do with their salt effected paddocks! I was particularly stoked to see some cows too! It was great week to be out and about in our region! Annabelle Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator

04.01.2022 NACC NRM's very own Jarna, Kane and Amanda are out in Murchison House Station today, monitoring Carnaby's nests! Pictured is a chick found in one of the nests - isn't technology amazing!... This project is funded by the Australian Government.

03.01.2022 Team retreat - what a treat! Last week, our team took off to sunny Kalbarri for our annual team retreat! We explored the Kalbarri National Park, the Skywalk and Z Bend with guidance from Steven and Victor of Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia who shared with us some personal stories about their connection to country and the amazing local flora and fauna! ... On Thursday we explored the Murchison River thanks to Grant from Kalbarri Wilderness Cruises! Our very own Mic gave the whole boat a treat with a talk about the complex and very important ecosystems that make up the estuary. After our river cruise, we spent the afternoon learning about our individual Unconscious Motivators and how we can harness them to achieve the best outcomes together! Friday morning the team joined forces with the Kalbarri Board Riders to do some 'brushing' on the dunes at Jacques Point! Brushing involves taking lopped branches and placing them on deteriorating dunes to slow erosion, stop people from walking through vegetation and encourage growth of more plants and shrubs! Once again the community project component of our team retreat was a highlight! The NACC NRM team retreat is our opportunity to reconnect, learn new things and explore our region together as a team, something we rarely get to do all together. We are so lucky to have such an amazing region to call home. I can't wait to see where next year's retreat takes us in the NAR! Katherine CEO
