25.01.2022 Wise words from the great David Attenborough. I get asked sometimes, since I have lived in three countries (Russia, Canada, Australia) which place is my favourite? I find this very hard to answer because I love them all differently. Just because I have fallen in love with Australian nature, birds and animals, does not mean I love European or Canadian nature any less... maybe because I have lived in these different places, that I can easily fall in love with each different... place, see something beautiful, curious or amazing in it. There are immigrants who never quite adapt to a new country, they miss home too much, or feel they are betraying their home somehow by fully letting a new land into their hearts... I have three lands in my heart (plus Africa which I have only visited for a short time). I love them all differently, and learning about the nature, the animals, forests and uniqueness of each has helped me immensely to adapt. Connecting with the nature of each layer has helped me connect with each new country, each time I have moved halfway across the planet. . . . #musings #thoughts #inspirationalquotes #immigration #nature #naturequotes #outdoors
24.01.2022 I'm going to start adding the name of the Aboriginal land on which I live - Yuggera country - to my "from" address on prints and other orders done through my Etsy shop. I'm thrilled to find out this week that Australia Post now supports this. While I have no Aboriginal heritage whatsoever, I feel it is so important to recognise whose traditional land we live, play and work on here in Australia. <3 I believe it adds an extra step towards respect for the Aboriginal people of Australia - and education too.
22.01.2022 Wow - 10 years have passed since the Brisbane 2011 Flood. I remember helping with the cleanup efforts at the RSPCA. Walking there (they were in Fairfield at the time) and seeing the mud water line way up high along the walls of houses was shocking. And the smell after the flood was awful...
22.01.2022 Peggy MacNamara is an amazing watercolour nature artist whose work I greatly admire, and try to pick up tips from. This is a really good article explaining hints, tips, and her process in watercolour. I especially find it amazing that she's able to remove large parts of her paintings then paint over them - layers, layers, layers. I do a few corrections in my work, but this article gives me confidence to do more. Watercolour is even more forgiving than I thought!
21.01.2022 The new Scaly-breasted Lorikeets would look adorable in an oak frame - I think it would complement the natural tones of the gum tree and leaves so nicely, and allow the birds to stand out. However, if you would like to order a canvas print of them, you get to choose which frame colour is YOUR favourite! There is also Natural (darker wood tone), Black or White. Which would best suit your decor? This new artwork is now available as an affordable Limited Edition print on canvas..., through Art Lovers Australia - choose a frame (or have it unframed) and use the 15% off coupon code "xmas15": https://artloversaustralia.com.au//lean-on-me-scaly-breas/ See more
20.01.2022 Merry Christmas and happy New Year! What have you been up to these holidays? This photo is of a subtropical #sunset on #oxleycreek as seen from our #canoe. We've been trying to get out into nature as much as we could, as well as just hanging out in the backyard (literally hanging, we got a hammock from Aldi!) ... Here's hoping 2021 will treat everyone better than 2020 did. . . . #oxleycreekcommon #brisbane #brisbaneanyday #brisbanesunset
19.01.2022 Happy as elephants in mud! :D Proud to support this amazing organisation.
19.01.2022 What have you been reading lately? I recently read "Phosphorescence: On Awe, Wonder And Things That Sustain You When The World Goes Dark" by Julia Baird. I loved every page, and think it will become my go-to book when I need an emotional pick-me-up and reminder of how to deal with some of the curveballs that life throws. Have you read this book yet? What were your impressions? Also, for someone who actually makes bookmarks, I keep finding random cards, pieces of paper or rece...ipts to use as bookmarks instead! My husband invariably reminds me that I make bookmarks and should probably use them. :D This photo is one of my brand new bookmarks in my Etsy shop! It's from my original painting of a barn owl feather. Have a look here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/nadyawildlifeartist/

17.01.2022 Such a lovely moment <3 A bit of good news for you!
15.01.2022 You might have wondered why I was mysteriously quiet on the art side of things... Well, now that the gift has been given for Christmas, I can post these two commissioned pet paintings I have recently completed for a friend! Both done in watercolour.
14.01.2022 I felt like I met a hero today! Or a movie star! Or perhaps both, because I first learned about Koala Detection Dogs on TV. ;) This is a very special Koala Detection Dog - a working English Springer Spaniel trained to detect koala scat (poo, basically). Why does she detect koala poo? So scientists can figure out where koalas are, where their territory is, how many koalas there are in a particular territory, what their DNA says, and how best to protect their habitat. After al...l you can't protect koalas effectively if you don't know they are there, right? Koala Detection Dogs - OWAD Environment SO COOL!

12.01.2022 I don't know which of these Willie Wagtail photos is my favourite. I like them both! Taken earlier this year at Oxley Commons, Brisbane. Photos available in my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/nadyawildlifeartist/... Description: both photos have a very soft blurry background - greens blending into grassy greys. In the foreground of both photos is a (different) timber fence post, weathered and covered in yellow lichen. On top of the fence post sits a Willie Wagtail - small black and white bird, with black head, back, wings and tail, and white underparts. The bird has a characteristic white "eyebrow" over its eye. In both shots, the birds are perched on the fence posts, surveying the land and swaying their tails as they do, no doubt looking for their next insect meal.

07.01.2022 Cuddly rainbow lorikeet family in my backyard Jacaranda tree! I believe this is two youngsters with the parent in the middle, judging by beak colour and eye colour? The other parent was nearby in a different part of the tree. Description: Three photos showing a family of rainbow lorikeets preening each other and snuggling very close together in the dappled shade of a bright green jacaranda tree. The birds have blue heads, bright green bands on the heads, green backs and wi...ngs. They have blue bands on their lower bellies while their upper chests are bright orange-red, and feathers on the underside of their tails are mottled orange and green as well. In the first image, two juvenile lorikeets are cuddling close and preening their parent, who is in the middle. Second photo - the parent has his or her head turned to the side, showing their bright red eye and red beak, different from the juveniles' darker eyes and darker beaks. The juveniles have their eyes closed, very relaxed. Third image - one lorikeet on the left is hanging upside down, while the parent bird shares a tender moment, beak to beak with the young bird on the right. See more

04.01.2022 I can now reveal another recent commission I painted, of a beautiful cat in watercolour. I really enjoyed the softness of this one. I've got a few more to do, but I may be able to take on a couple more commissioned works later in the year. So if you've got a favourite photo of your pet or wildlife (that you've taken yourself, or have permission to be used in this way), and no specific deadline, and you like my painting style, I'd love to hear from you.
03.01.2022 So many busy bees! #toowoomba #toowoombacarnivalofflowers We visited Toowoomba for the first time on the weekend and had a fantastic time wandering through all the gardens. 02.01.2022 What am I? I am a native Australian marsupial. I am often mistaken for a mouse or small rat, but unlike a rat, my tail is approximately the same length as my bo...dy. I also have a mouth full of little razor sharp teeth, similar to my carnivorous cousins, the Tasmanian Devil and the Quoll. Oh, and did I mention I am extremely cute? ..... 02.01.2022 Did you know that mistletoebirds make aerial gardens of mistletoe? That is to say - they poop out mistletoe seeds strategically to plant more mistletoe. And the mistletoe has designed its seeds so they must go through the mistletoe bird first in order to germinate. Amazing! . And this photo taken last weekend is from #oxleycreekcommon #brisbane . I'd never gotten this close to one of these gorgeous birds before! . .... . #mistletoe #mistletoebird #bird #birdphotos #yourbestbirds #wildlife See more

01.01.2022 One of these days I would love to go out there and see such a huge flock of budgies...
01.01.2022 Rainbows, rainbow everywhere! But not rainbow lorikeets this time... Rainbow Bee-Eaters, Australia's only Bee-Eater species. I have started to see them locally again and they bring a smile to my face every time. Yes they eat bees (and other insects), but everyone's gotta eat something. :) And they are just so beautiful.
