20.01.2022 Meet Our Team Each Friday evening at 7pm we will introduce you to a member of the Nagambie Fire Brigade team. Today we have a short Q & A session with one of our Brigade Management Team. Name: Paul Swan... How long have you been a CFA Volunteer? 28 years, I joined in 1992 at the age of 14. I started at a small rural brigade in south west Victoria before moving to a very busy suburban brigade in Melbourne, I transferred to Nagambie at the beginning of 2015. What is your full time job? I work full-time in Emergency Services What keeps you busy whilst you are not at work or CFA? I enjoy working on cars, gardening and looking after my three daughters keeps me very busy. What are your hobbies? I love getting away on holidays in our caravan, but I also love going out for drives and exploring. Gardening and amateur photography are also passions of mine. Why did you want to join CFA? My Father has been a CFA Volunteer for over 50 years and my late Grandfather was one of the founding members of the small rural brigade that I first joined, Gerangamete ever heard of it? Apparently it means "home of the snakes "

20.01.2022 PLEASE! Due to the fire risk, we ask you this New Years Eve to put away the illegal fireworks. If our crews are called to any incident involving illegal fireworks, Victoria Police will be called and you will face stiff fines and penalties. Again, we can't make it any more clear, this NYE = NO FIREWORKS. #PleaseNoFireworksThisNYE #ZeroTolerance #BigFinesAndPenalties

16.01.2022 Kestrel Aviation will be conducting night helicopter firebombing training in the areas surrounding #Avenel and #Longwood this evening. We acknowledge the impact... of night operations on the local community and, where possible, will endeavour to avoid rural infrastructure. It is planned that the activity will be completed by 11:00 pm. This training is a vital component of our risk mitigation strategy, providing safe and effective night fire capability with a focus on the local community safety during the fire season. We thank the local community for their understanding, and welcome any questions or concerns regarding the training or our night aerial firefighting operations.

15.01.2022 A great example of Community Organisations helping each other. Nagambie Primary School needed to burn off a large pile of cuttings so School Principal Rob French approached a couple of school childrens fathers who volunteer at the Fire Brigade. In the past the Primary School has allowed the Fire Brigade to train within the school ground's to ensure that our volunteers are trained and ready to respond to any emergency. Pictured are Captain Allen Treble and 2nd Lieutenant Paul Swan shortly after light up of the pile. Both Allen and Paul have two children each who attend the Primary School.

15.01.2022 We hope you don’t need to meet them in an emergency anytime soon, however some of our firefighters may look a little different the next time you do see them! Over the last few months new helmets have been distributed to firefighters across the state who hold breathing apparatus and search & rescue qualifications. The Pacific Helmets F15 helmet includes a one-touch visor, a full-coverage internal face shield, integrated helmet torch, comfort harness and liner, and fl...ame-resistant multi-layer neck flaps. It also has a reinforced composite shell and an advanced polymer chassis. Below is a photo of the old and new helmets side by side.

15.01.2022 At approximately 7:45pm on Saturday evening 23/01/21 Nagambie Volunteer Fire-fighters with support from Bailieston and Wirrate brigades were called to a reported structure fire at Zephyrz restaurant in High St Nagambie. Upon CFA arrival staff had managed to extinguish a burning switchboard and evacuate the building but the entire building was full of smoke. Fire-fighters wearing Breathing Apparatus and using a Positive Pressure Ventilation fan successfully cleared the smoke. Using a Thermal Imaging Camera checks were made to ensure that the fire had not extended into the roof and walls of the building.

15.01.2022 Understanding Warnings and Emergency Information You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave. Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes. Understand the levels of warnings and don’t expect warnings to be issued in any particular order. The first warning you may get could be an Emergency Warning. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrict/about-warnings

04.01.2022 Some good advice for everyone whether you are travelling or at home

04.01.2022 Please register your burn off before you light up. Most people now have mobile phones and if they see your smoke they may call 000 to report your burnoff. This may result in an unnecessary attendance of CFA volunteers at your property.

02.01.2022 Planned burning in the Graytown area today will result in a lot of smoke in the area

01.01.2022 While you might be aware of the **disruptions** on a particular social network today. It's a good time to think about where you get your information when it comes to warnings and advice. Make sure you have the Vic Emergency app and never rely on one source for your emergency information.
