25.01.2022 Sports Day is this Friday, and we’re all ready to go! 3.15 dismissal for all students In previous years when we have been able to welcome the wider community to celebrate the day with us, parents and caregivers who had spent the day with us had the opportunity to take younger students home after lunch when their sports day program had finished.... This year an in-class program will be provided for these students until 3.15pm. If they wish, parents of students in Reception-Yr1 are welcome to collect students after 1.00pm from the classroom, but students must be signed out at the front office.

Therefore, *all students are welcome to come in casual clothes on Friday if they choose*. Donation for a charity is not required this term, we will discuss this aspect with student voice next term.... School Reports School reports will come home tonight and our report format is very slightly modified due to the interruptions in schooling caused by COVID-19. We wish you a happy and safe holiday break and look forward to a productive term 3 at Nairne School for all. Kind Regards, Derek Miller | Principal

11.01.2022 Dear parent/caregiver, What a roller coaster ride we have all been on for the past couple of days in particular! Well done to our whole state for abiding by lockdown rules and keeping our wider community safe.... The Premier today announced that schools and preschools will reopen to all students on Monday 23 November. As a result our Nairne Preschool Year 7 school will be open and operating as normal. We will not be offering an alternative home-based learning program. OSHC will operate as usual. Nairne School was to have a pupil free day on Monday but we have now cancelled this day and to be open for all students to attend. We have decided that our local community has been affected by the lockdown long enough and want to support our families by having Preschool and school available for children to attend. As the Chief Public Health Officer said, just because the hard lockdown is being lifted does not mean that the risks associated with COVID-19 have passed. As a result we will minimise the number of people coming and going from our site. Wherever possible, please drop and collect your child at the school boundary and maintain the appropriate physical distance from other adults. More information on excursions, events and sporting activities, and use of masks will be available soon. Thank you very much for your support over the last couple of days. We look forward to having your child back at Nairne Preschool Year 7 school on Monday. Regards, Derek and Kathy

10.01.2022 What does your child need? If children feel unwell, they should stay home to rest. A sore throat, headache, runny nose, body aches, fever and/or a cough all ...point to the same thing: kids shouldn't be at school. So keep them at home and let them take what they need to feel better (whether that's or ).

09.01.2022 Week 10 already... the students finish the term on Friday (3:15pm). We hope to see a rainbow of colour on this day! Take care *Feel free to join in the fun from home too...post a photo of you in your Cheerful Clothes in the comments!

09.01.2022 Hi everyone! This weekend’s lego challenge is... Build a rabbit! It could be a normal rabbit or an Easter Bunny. Be creative! ... Remember to add some details to your backgrounds. Post your picture on this post by 5pm Sunday! Have a great weekend! Kathy See more

08.01.2022 Here’s a blast from the past! Tomorrow’s tuck! Flexi schools is still working and you can order online. Please make sure that you update and log into skoolbag over the next couple of days so you can continue to get messages from the school. Thanks!

05.01.2022 . A lot of warnings have been issued for children to stay off social media, specifically Tik Tok, d...ue to a graphic self harm video that’s circulating. While we do recommend that parents monitor their children or keep them off the platform, it's a band-aid solution for a long-term issue due to the fact that distressing videos constantly circulate online. Instead we would like to encourage all parents and guardians to -: 1 . Understand that they will most likely use it, whether you understand the appeal or not. Ask them what apps they use, find out why they like those apps. Start a dialogue so you can start understanding why it’s important to them. The more you understand about it, the more you can stay across it. 2 . If you know what apps they’re using, help them make their profile as secure as possible, whether it’s TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitch or Reddit (the list is endless). You can do this with the help of this eSafety Commissioner guide: www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide 3 . Be open and willing to listen. Make them aware of Kids Helpline Official (1800 55 1800), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636), headspace (headspace.org.au) and Lifeline (13 11 14) so they know they have a place to contact if they don’t feel comfortable approaching you. 4 . Kids often create a social media profile that they make visible to you, but keep their actual profile under a fake name hidden from you. Again, this is why we encourage you to talk to your child openly and honestly. 5 . If your child watches YouTube videos, please be aware there's no guarantee that this content will be safe for kids. People can easily edit distressing videos for kids that slip through the filters. If you can't monitor your child on YouTube then let them watch Netflix kids instead as it has stronger filters. SBS and ABC iview are both free alternatives for children’s online content. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner is a great resource for parents, guardians and kids: www.esafety.gov.au

04.01.2022 We had a great Book Week Celebration today at Nairne School with all our "Curious Creatures & Wild Minds"! 03.01.2022 COVID-19 School Closure Update *updated* Dear parent/caregiver, ... Today the Premier announced a 6 day statewide lockdown starting at midnight tonight (Wednesday 18 November) through to midnight Tuesday 24 November. Only the children of essential workers and vulnerable children will be able to attend school or preschool / child care. A skeleton staff will provide supervision but not a learning program for the remainder of this week. If your child needs to attend, we will be here for them. School operating hours will be the same as normal 8.45am-3.15pm. If possible, please drop and collect students in the "D", and tell them to report to the front office - classrooms will not be open. For the foreseeable future, parents are once again requested to remain offsite during dropoff and pickup. All students have been asked to take home books and anything they need to continue their learning from home. More information on learning programs will be provided early next week, as we work our way through the new COVID-19 directions. All South Australians are making sacrifices to ensure our community remains as safe as possible. We appreciate that this is a significant undertaking for you and your family. Your child’s teacher, our support staff and I are here to support you where we can. Regards, Derek Miller | Principal

02.01.2022 School Disco is this Thursday! (Year 3s can choose which disco they want to come along to). This year we can’t have lots of parents in the gym because of COVID regulations, BUT we would love a few parent helpers to supervise and sell drinks and snacks and for the quick clean up after the last disco. If you are interested let me know! I need to know what you are happy to do and which disco / time would suit you! Thanks! Kathy

02.01.2022 Well done to Eyre for winning the house cup for 2020!

01.01.2022 Dear Parents and Carers, Please find a letter and infographic from SA's Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Nicola Spurrier, in relation to advice for children attending school at the start of term 2. 01.01.2022 Just to clarify as I have a had a couple of questions! If you normally have children at OSCH and you are an essential worker, you can bring them to before school care as normal or pick them up after school as normal. If you are an essential worker needing care who does not normally access OSCH , drop students in the D during normal drop off time so we can organise care for them - staff will be in the D to welcome students and so we can reduce the number of adults on site. ...There will not be staff in classrooms - so it is important for all children to be dropped at the ‘D’. Pick up will also be a the D in the afternoon at normal pick up time. We will be using OSCH facilities as they are more suited for looking after a wide range of ages- BUT we will not be charging parents for the normal school hours care. The school is paying for any staff members who are providing care for the children who attend during normal school hours for the next few days while the lockdown is occurring. The school is operating with a small skeleton staff, and leadership will also be on site. Sorry for any confusion! Take care and please let me know if you have any further questions!
