24.01.2022 Another great write up in the Macleay Argus!! The September Kempsey Bass Competition, organised by Nambucca River Sport Fishing, saw anglers hit the Macleay River on Sunday to great success with 41 attendants dangling their rods. Three divisions featured throughout the day with winners in the boat, kayak and junior formats. Start time was 5:30am with anglers back on dry land at 12:30pm.... Despite concerns over the health of the river after fish kills earlier this year a total of 109 fish were caught before 8:46am. "We were initially worried about the health of the river after the fish kills but with all the fish caught it seems to be going well and we'll definitely look at running this event in the future," Event director Kris Banks said to competitors. "It was a really good day, people went up and down river so there was plenty opportunities for good fishing." Winner in the boating division was Simon Gulliford with his five bass reaching up to 2010mm whilst it was a tie between Gulliford and Darcy Sabine for largest bass, both catching a 430mm bass. Jeremy Curtis and Michael Goodwin were second and third respectively in the boating division. In the kayaking division Nathan Yates took our first place with his five totalling at 1755mm whilst Jen Lennon finished in second but took out the largest bass competition at a size of 405mm. The kayaks participants travelled around 20mins through the river for their divisions. The youth under 16 division saw Cooper Goodwin finish in first for the largest bass, his catch measuring at 330mm. The same event was held on the Saturday at Port Macquarie with over 100 registrations for that event and Banks is looking to continue expanding. "I'm thinking of holding another competition in the end of November and I've received interest for a flathead tournament at South West Rocks towards the end of the year," Banks told Port Macquarie News. 22.01.2022 What a cracking couple of days on the water!!!! The results from today's Kempsey Bass Comp September 2020 ....on closer inspection after the presentation we actually had a tie for Big Bass in the Boater division...Darcy Sabine also had a 430mm Bass & for his efforts we will be sending out a Softgaff Matt for him!!!
