09.01.2022 19 May 2021 Letter from the Chief Executive Officer COVID-19 Virus update... You may recall at about the same time last year we advised you about a Directive from NSW Health about influenza vaccine. A similar Directive has again been issued related to influenza vaccinations this year that will affect anyone seeking access to an NVC home. From 1 June to 30 September everyone entering a residential aged care home will need to be vaccinated for influenza. This applies to staff, visitors, health practitioners, volunteers and contractors. What does this mean for families and friends who are visiting a resident? As a provider, NVC is required to take all reasonable steps to ensure that a person does not enter or remain on the premises if they do not meet the influenza vaccination requirements. From 1 June 2021, preferably prior, NVC will require evidence of current immunisation status from anyone seeking to enter an NVC residential care home, that is, they have received a dose of the 2021 influenza vaccine. Acceptable forms of evidence may be a statement or record from a health practitioner; or an immunisation history statement available from Medicare online or the Express Plus Medicare mobile app. We urge you to discuss influenza vaccination with your health practitioner or pharmacy provider. Where the person has a medical certificate indicating a contraindication to influenza vaccination or there are other special circumstances, visits may be permitted provided additional precautions are applied. NVC understands that this is an additional impost, however, this is a regulatory compliance matter that we are required to follow. Your understanding, support and compliance with the new requirement is greatly appreciated.
