25.01.2022 A small good news story in these challenging times: we are extremely excited to announce the next and largest stage of our Bowraville Connections Project with funding from the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust and the NSW Environmental Trust! The projects will continue to address riverbank and bed erosion issues, improving instream fish habitat and the riparian condition in South Creek and Nambucca River at Bowraville. These actions will improve the water quality by reducing se...diment and nutrients from entering the system, making it healthier for native fish and people who enjoy the water. The photo below is an example of one of the sites with extensive bank erosion. See the attached media release for more info.
25.01.2022 Thanks to help from Nambucca Valley Council, North Arm Farms - Nambucca Valley, Community Underwriting Insurance, and some legendary volunteers, we're helping restore our waterways and bushland after the 2019 Kian Road fire.
25.01.2022 Volunteers at Hyland Park last week, hand pulling Exotic Ginger and bagging the red seeds of the Coral Berry to stop further spreading. We are running fortnightly volunteer Bush Regeneration Days if you are interested in joining in please contact the office. Theses works are supported by The NSW Environmental Trust.
24.01.2022 We're thrilled to be working with the brilliant earth and environmental science students at Bowraville Central School on our Bowraville Connections river restoration project. Together, we're mapping a degraded river reach and designing a remediation plan. Next up: getting stuck in to some on-ground works - installing erosion controls and planting 1500 native riparian trees. With the recent rain, it's shaping up to be a promising year for planting. It's inspiring to spend ...time with the next generation of landcarers. Their enthusiasm and dexterity when scrambling through the bush makes the job look easy. This is part of our Bowraville Connections Project, with funding generously provided by y the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust and Department of Primary Industry Recreational Fishing Trust.
24.01.2022 Volunteers at Hyland Park have recently picked thousands of Coral Berry from within the Nature reserve. We plan to continue with the removal of Coral Berry and seeds from this area on our next volunteer day - 27th August. If you would like to join in - we are holding fortnightly weeding mornings in the Hyland Park area, as part of a NSW Environmental Trust funded project. For further information about the volunteer weeding days - please email [email protected]
23.01.2022 We will be using this funding together with Nambucca Shire Council funding to control Madeira Vine and Cats Claw Creeper along the upper reaches of the Nambucca River.
22.01.2022 A warning has been put out that cane toads have been identified in the #Coffs Harbour area. Please do NOT kill any animals you suspect are cane toads. Report th...em to the DPI and isolate them. Most suspected toads are in fact native #frogs, some of them #endangered species. At The Frogarium ALL suspected toads we have been asked about so far have been the beautiful native species in the photo. The Giant barred #frog (Mixophes iteratus) is very large with gold eyes. We are particularly concerned that it will be accidentally targeted by well meaning people that think its a toad (as we know has already happened). Everyday someone on our tours thinks a native frog looks like a cane toad. Its an easy mistake to make, so dont kill them. Report them so we dont lose our #endangeredspecies on the #coffscoast by accident. See more
22.01.2022 These plants are now heading toward 1 meter tall after spending the first year, protected with tree guards. Tree guards improve the chance of young seedlings survival rate and are now available in a biodegradable material ! By protecting your plantings from weather conditions such as wind or hail and from hungry wallabies with tree guards, you will find your survival rate will be vastly higher. The native plants below are part of our Environmental Trust Project - Protecting coastal corridors at Yarrahappini. As you can see plants are establishing to fill the gap in this native bush corridor that leads directly to the Yarrahappini National park.
21.01.2022 Our thoughts are with all those in our valley and across the state who have been so severely affected by the floods. Most of our work at Landcare is focused on restoring waterways. Surveying the damage from a flood of this magnitude has been challenging, to say the least, but once again, the resilience, determination and support from our community has been on full display. It inspires us to push forward with the mission, one tree at a time. If you're keen to make a positive c...hange and have fun with a great group of people, we'd love for you to join us for our planting day next Tuesday, 30 March at Mackay Park in Bowraville. We'll provide free lunch and morning tea to keep the troops well fed, so if you're keen to come, please RSVP by Monday 29 March. We need lots of help! Check out the flyer below for more details.

If uncontrolled, vine weeds have the potential to take over otherwise health, mature trees, and can have a dramatic effect on our vital riparian zones. This project was funded through DPI Weeds and North Coast Regional Landcare Network.

15.01.2022 Nambucca Valley Landcare is proud to announce the completion our Protecting Endangered Ecological Communities at Northern Nambucca project. Over three years, the project team worked on four different endangered ecological communities - swamp sclerophyll, coastal salt marsh, swamp oak forest and littoral rainforest. This area is home huge array of different flora and fauna - without doubt a biodiversity hotspot. The area was infested with cassia (senna pendula var. glabrata), ...and other weeds were creeping in from the urban fringe, including coral berry (ardisia crenata ), exotic ginger and asparagus fern (asparagus setaceus). Bush regenerators and tireless community volunteers tackled the site for three years, mostly hand pulling each weed to protect the vulnerable native vegetation. Today, the site is leaping back, with a stunning expansion of native groundcover, shrubs, trees and palms. You can find this amazing place by following the footbridge across from Hyland Park and tracking south towards Nambucca. This three year project was supported by the NSW Environmental Trust and the Nambucca Valley Council.
