19.01.2022 Another beautiful day in Nana Glen. Volunteer firefighter John Henderson took Nana Glen 1 for a run to Woopi & back to build some hours up under instruction prior to his HR driving test in the next few weeks. Twiggy has contributed considerably to the brigade since he joined about 18 months ago and it will be good to add another driver to our ranks. Thanks Johhno.

19.01.2022 While you were sleeping..........Nana Glen volunteers attended two incidents last night at 2230 pm & 0330am. Huge thanks to our friends at Coramba & Moonee brigades for their assistance.

19.01.2022 It was great to welcome representatives from Coffs Council, local RFS members & the media to the station today to launch the two bushfire preparation videos that were made in the area recently featuring local RFS members & residents. Please take the time to watch them & think about whether your property & family are prepared for a fire. (links to the video are in the shared post below & in our timeline.)

11.01.2022 This video was made by Lachlan Payne & it revisits the day the LIberation Trail fire impacted on Nana Glen on November 12, 2019. Parts of it may be hard to watch for some of us, so use your discretion. It ends on a positive, uplifting note and is a credit to the team of young blokes who made it. Glenn Locke Nana Glen RFS.

11.01.2022 Meet Mick Koster. Mick is a 22 year veteran of the NSW Rural Fire Service and did his early years in the Minto Heights area of Sydney. The Nana Glen RFS is lucky to have Mick in our ranks. Mick is the owner of Tobiah Tree Mulching based in Bucca and he brings skills in heavy machinery & truck driving. During the 2019/2020 fire season Mick contributed to our brigade as a crew member & the Coffs Harbour support brigade driving & operating the Cat 6 bulk water tanker. Mick ...is proud that his two sons Josh & Huey are also volunteering for the RFS. Family support means a lot to us. We are grateful for the support of our partners & Mick's partner Petra tolerates long absences from home and speedy exits from the house when the pager goes off at inconvenient times. Mick is also quite tall and he comes in handy when we want something from the third shelf in the lockers. Thanks mate for your contribution to the Nana Glen & Bucca community. See more

10.01.2022 It was great to catch up with Kyel Monro at the Nana Glen station today. Kyel is a seven-year veteran of the Rural Fire Service. Nana Glen brigade would be lost without Kyel's input as maintenance officer and he often sits in the Crew Leaders seat working the radios at incidents. Our work is unpredictable & varied and Kyel is a very capable member of our team. For such a young bloke there is not much he hasn’t seen. Thanks, mate for your contribution & community service. We are proud to have you in the brigade.

09.01.2022 Hi everyone. I would like to thank everyone that places donations in our hat small or large. Without these kind gestures, we wouldn't be able to buy the assortment of bit and pieces that we need along the way serving a great community as we have, so thank you immensely for you wonderful support NGRFB

05.01.2022 Nana Glen Rural Fire Brigade was very grateful to welcome our local member Gurmesh Singh - MP & the Minister for Police & Emergency Services David Elliot to Nana Glen on Wednesday for the official handover of our new Cat 1 tanker. Thanks to our volunteers who took time off work to participate in the handover. Nana Glen 1 has already fired a few shots in anger and the upgrade will improve our ability to respond to incidents in our community.

02.01.2022 Today is the 12 month anniversary of the Liberation Trail Fire which impacted on Nana Glen & the Orara Valley. It was great to catch up with Drew & Cherry this morning at the station & talk about that day & the year that has passed. The crew on Nana Glen 1 & Nana Glen 7 successfully defended their home on Ellems Quarry Road on November 12 2019. Thanks for the great photo which was taken the day after the fire went through. Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past 12 months. The recovery still has some way to go but we are getting there.

02.01.2022 Well deserved recognition.

02.01.2022 Today marks 40 years since five young lives were tragically lost battling a bush fire at Waterfall. It was 3rd November 1980 - just before 5am crews were alerted to a bush fire burning near McKell Avenue, after being reported by a motorist who was heading to work from Wollongong. Numerous brigades responded to the southern end of the Royal National Park, working to contain a large fire which was burning under mild conditions.... 1979 and 1980 were extremely dry, with half the annual rainfall falling locally. There had been eleven fires of significance prior to this fire, with three occurring in the Royal National Park during September 1980. The conditions on the day were cool, the temperature reached 19c, humidity was low (~30%), and southerly winds prevailed. As the southerly winds increased in strength late afternoon, the fire transitioned from the forested area into heath, increasing the intensity and spread. The fire rapidly headed in a northerly direction towards the Uloola trail. It was on this trail where a fire tanker from Headquarters (Heathcote) Brigade was overrun by fire. It was at this location where five brave firefighters were lost - Steve Crunkhorn, 26, Gregory Rolfe, 24, Vernon Stedman, 21, William Cummings, 21 and David Marshall, 19. The fire was contained days later after burning 2,246 hectares of the Royal National Park. Four decades on, we continue to remember the brave and courageous crews To mark the 40th anniversary, Waterfall Rural Fire Brigade facilitated a very special event for their local community last Sunday, titled ‘Come for a Walk’. The event saw the Brigade invite the local community for a walk, along the Uloola trail to the memorial site, which is located a short distance from the nearby RFS station. The Brigade Captain provided a recount of what occurred on this tragic day, including commentary from RFS officers Peter Kneale and David Brown, who were both involved in this particular fire. I was privileged to join the community at this special event. It was an emotional afternoon remembering our fallen heroes. I share this special event more broadly, via the five minute video below.
