18.01.2022 NANNUP BIKE TRAILS BOOST Nannup's upcoming mountain bike trails have been given a boost that could see the distance extended by a third. The Shire has been a...warded $100,000 for the trail extension through the State Government's Regional Economic Development grants. Nannup Shire President Tony Dean says once it opens it'll be the highest standard. "I don’t say this too lightly but we’ll have a world class mountain bike track in Nannup, catered for all professional and amateur riders," he said. "That’ll be starting construction this month and should be finished by June of next year."

17.01.2022 In a significant announcement for the riding community today the Mark McGowan State Government and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti MLA have announced a $105 mi...llion infrastructure package to improve cycling and walking infrastructure in the Perth CBD. The projects deliver on priorities within the Perth Greater CBD Transport Plan. For those that experience the current frustrations of riding in the City of Perth this is a significant and welcomed commitment that will encourage more people to ride to the CBD and make it safer to do so. It reconfirms that Western Australia is the bike riding capital of Australia! The projects include: - Swan River Causeway Bridge linking East Perth with Victoria Park via Heirisson Island (previously announced) - Upgrading the Kings Park Road Shared Path - Improving the Spring Street and Mounts Bay Road Bike Connection - Upgrading Aberdeen Street bike lanes - Upgrading Northbridge Laneways - Wellington Street Bike Lane upgrade - Upgrading the Riverside Drive Shared Path - The Roe Street Enhancement (including road upgrades, wider footpaths, improved bike lanes, landscaping, lighting, CCTV, paving and street furniture). 15.01.2022 Mountain Bikers who enjoy the trails around Dwellingup, please support our town’s fight against Alcoa who want to bulldoze and mine 6,700 ha of forest. We have until tomorrow to submit as many comments as possible. Please help!

13.01.2022 NMBC are looking for a few new general committee members. We have meetings about once every two months and a rake n ride at the pump track once a month. Ideally you would be local to Nannup and have a keen interest in mountain biking and promotion of mountain biking in the area. Email us on [email protected] or private message on fb for more info. You would need to be a current paid up member of NMBC or be willing to join the club. ($20 per year)

13.01.2022 HELL YEAHHH ,,,

10.01.2022 In today’s Sunday Times. With so many new pump tracks it’s hard to pick the top 5. We went a lil Town and a lil Country. Would you choose these or something different?

08.01.2022 Alright, I want to call myself out on this one. I used to spout this phrase. I rode by it. And I shared it several times (a few years ago) on this very Facebook... page. It's a load of crap. In fact, it's probably the stupidest quote in mountain biking. Now, let's start by saying there are varying degrees of crashes. I do believe if you want to get better on the bike you need to push your boundaries. You need to make mistakes. And you will probably have crashes and near misses. With that being said, you need to build up bit by bit and allow your skills to improve over time. When I got back into riding a few years back I used to believe I could fake it until I made it. I used to try and ride as fast as a pro, but without any of the accompanying skills. I fell off several times a ride, every ride. I was almost proud of the bruises, cuts and scrapes I gained each week. I felt it made me a proper mountain biker (ironic really because a 'proper biker' would be able to stay on the bike! ). Then I had a big crash. I tore a ligament in my ankle putting me in on crutches for weeks. It took months to rehab it back to normal. I also caused hundreds of 's of damage to my bike. I realised then I should maybe take a look at my philosophy of "If you aren't crashing you aren't trying hard enough". In a similar story, ago my mate Ozzy sent himself off a 5 foot drop at Gisburn Forest. He'd never done a 1 foot drop before, never mind a 5 foot one. He couldn't manual. And he tried to do it with zero speed. He literally rode up to it and nose dived off it. He put himself in an air ambulance. The Doctor said if the muscles surrounding his neck muscle weren't so strong he would have snapped his neck. Don't be a dick. Mountain biking is a dangerous sport. It's amazing when done right. But you do need to be sensible with it. Focus on skills first. Gradually build up your speed. Gradually build up the difficulty of trails you ride. Hit bigger and bigger obstacles over time. Step by step. Please don't try to fake it. Please don't ride trails without the subsequent skills and experience needed. Be patient. Get a skills coach. Spend hours and hours practicing. And get better over time. You will be a much faster, confident and better rider and importantly...you will be much safer too. A real crash on the bike should be a rare occasion. If you are crashing badly every ride, you are doing something wrong . I'd love to hear your thoughts? : Libby Harman

05.01.2022 We may not have been had many social rides recently but lots of things have been happening behind the scenes. We now have a place to call home! NMBC. have moved into the Old Kindy next door to the Shire Office. We have taken residence in the nice big shed that fits all our gear as well as being perfect for maintenance workshops. The best bit is we can see Tank 7 from the front gate. We are sharing the property with Nannup Playgroup and had a Busy Bee and BBQ on the weeken...d to tidy up the gardens and get to know each other. We moved in during the school holidays and set up as a pit stop/BBQ for the two ride days the Nannup Shire had as part of their school holiday program. Steve Lane ran the two very popular dad & kid rides. PUMP TRACK TUESDAYS started back up last month and will be on next week too. We meet at 5pm for a general clean up and maintenance of the track and a ride to finish off. Probably the best news is that Tank 7&8 are moving along. Representatives from NMBC. regularly attend steering committee meetings with the Shire, DPAW, FPC and the design consultants to work on the project. The trail corridors and then final alignments have (almost) been finalised. Next stage is the build...yay...finally we can see the finish line. By this time next year we should be riding 30km of awesome trails. SO if you have managed to keep reading this far.... MEMBERSHIPS ARE NOW DUE. NEW MEMBERS MOST WELCOME. EMAIL [email protected] or message for a form. Phew...cheers all.

05.01.2022 The Shire of Nannup are excited to announce Three Chillies Design as the successful tender for stage 1 construction of the Nannup Tank 7 & 8 Mountain Bike Park....
