10.01.2022 RANT // Loved this article. Highlighting the ongoing problem of parents wanting the world in a nanny service but offering slave labour. Then they complain when... they cant find anyone or their nanny only lasts 2 weeks. I wanted to take some time to raise something with all of you. Since launching Nanager Im truly shocked to find how many requests come through for parents seeking less then desirable job offers. My favourite is when a parent requests 1 hour in the morning for school pick up followed by 2 - 3 more hours in the afternoon for school pick up. Oh and in that time they want the full home management service too. If this is you as a parent, ask yourself this, would you work it? Can you complete the list youre leaving your Nanny? And for those how answer with "but its too expensive" my response is simple - you cannot afford a nanny. Re-evaluate your options because the current solution on offer is below minimum employment standards and illegal. If youre a nanny in this situation - resign. There is better work out there. How do we combat this at Nanager? - We negotiate child free hours for home management. - We wont place in roles less than 6 hours. - We have $25 as a BASE RATE. Super, workers compensation is on top. - We continue to manage and represent our nannies in working relationships. Not this place and dump as we often see in the industry. We are dedicated to eliminating these horrible job offers. The nanny industry is booming and I welcome any professional nannies to reach out if they want to explore our options to improve their job prospects. 04.01.2022 Nannying. That weird profession where youre required to love a child beyond comprehension, and yet keep them at arms length and not get "too attached" to remain professional. The job that requires you to discipline, help raise, and lead children towards things that will make them amazing humans, without knowing if youll ever see the fruits of your labor because well, youre just the nanny.... That job that puts you in someones home, often running their life for them, leaving you to wonder where yours went. The job where you do all that a mother does short of birthing them and sleeping with them nightly, yet you do it without a maternal bond - the juice that keeps all mamas going.
