24.01.2022 Hiding from the pandemic like... While some big fish were taking turns smashing the bait ball, this Dusky Whaler was lazily swimming into the ball and seemed to be waiting for the fish to swim into its mouth showing that sharks have smarts and like to conserve energy when they can, not mindless killing machines as the wacko media would have you believe xx We are so lucky to have natural spectacles like this to keep us occupied during these crazy times. I hope everyon...e appreciates the natural world more when it's all over so that we don't lose these beautiful beings forever. #savesharks #apexpredatornotmonster #lovesharks

19.01.2022 HAPPY WORLD TURTLE DAY We are so lucky to have a healthy population of turtles here on the Ningaloo, especially the Green Sea Turtles like this one! It seemed rather unimpressed by me trying to get a portrait while it was having a snooze!

17.01.2022 Is there anything better than a sunset with ORCAS?!? A few days ago we were lucky enough to spend a few hours watching 9 or 10 of these incredible animals. This is the 3rd time I've seen them but by far the best as the sun set over a calm ocean. Orcas are the ultimate apex predator and here in Coral Bay we are extremely lucky that a few transient pods come through every now and again. Watching these animals in their element cutting through the water effortlessly over kilome...ters makes it even more heartbreaking to think about the individuals captured, taken from their close family groups and put in a tiny tank to perform and go insane. #EMPTYTHETANKS . Thanks to everyone on board who made it that much more unforgettable

15.01.2022 Her kind has survived hundreds of millions of years. Will she survive mankind? This week two identical containers going into Hong Kong totalling 26 tonnes (!) of shark fins were seized. These fins were cut from the bodies of almost 40,000 sharks, mostly Threshers and Silkys which are both listed as vulnerable to extinction by the IUCN. The reason they were not successfully smuggled in was because the declaration was in a foreign language other than English, which authoritie...s found suspicious. How many of these get through unnoticed? How many sharks are left in the oceans and how much longer until they are gone? #protectsharks #bansharkfinning #bansharkfinsoup

15.01.2022 FORTESQUE FALLS - KARIJINI When the filter doesn't fit the lens... Improvise! Surprisingly impressed with how this turned out as in the beginning I was only testing what it would look like with my fisheye lens using an ND filter ... #karijininationalpark #ndfilter #creativephotography See more

12.01.2022 Well it's been difficult keeping this one under wraps but finally the winners of the ND Awards 2020 are out! I'm absolutely delighted to not only place 1st in the Wildlife Category but managed to win the entire Professional Nature category! You can call me ND Nature Photographer of the Year 2020 thank you Seriously though, I'm beyond grateful and excited to receive recognition for an image of one of the most exciting encounters I've witnessed on the Ningaloo - a feeding fr...enzy! Well done to all participants in the competition, I'm going to have fun pouring over all the other incredible images today! Check them out here: https://ndawards.net/winners-galle/nd-awards-2020//nature/ ND Magazine & ND Awards Story behind the shot: For a short time every year on the Ningaloo Reef, bait balls form and birds, sharks and pelagic fish feast. While searching off the back of the reef for whale sharks, we came across this tightly packed ball. The birds were going crazy on the surface while some shy sharks were hanging down deeper. It was an incredible feeling to be in the middle of this feeding frenzy and to capture such a spectacle on camera. If you look closely you can see the Coral Bay Ecotours crew in the background Very much looking forward to shooting more of these insane events in the year to come Prints available! www.naomirosephoto.com www.instagram.com/naomirosephoto

05.01.2022 Something a little different! When I used to think about shooting portraits I would imagine wedding shoots, studio setups with flowery backdrops or trying to m...ake babies smile when they didn't want to. It was never something I thought I would enjoy - wildlife has always been my passion - not people. But over the last couple of years I've had the opportunity to shoot some informal, impromptu portraits and I keep finding myself being drawn to creating striking, intense, sometimes confronting images - and getting excited about them! This new path in my photography career is no longer so daunting but quite exciting to discover I'm finding my feet and my style and can't wait explore it more Thanks for giving me the opportunity to play around and get some awesome images Sophia Hjortkjaer hope you stretched afterwards... #yoga #yogaphotography #fineartphotography #bnw

05.01.2022 KARIJINI NATIONAL PARK A special place in Western Australia that I finally got to explore with @danspillane Karijini is one of those places that you hear about how incredible it is and when you get there, it still blows all expectations no matter how high.... It's a spiritual place where traditional owners The Banyjima, Yinhawangka and Kurrama Aboriginal people have ancestors dating back 30,000 years. Jagged red rock formations, cascading waterfalls and serene, icy cold pools are enough to make a photographer jittery but add in stunning night skies and all I could think about was getting this shot! Though I don't remember all that much of the astrophysics part of my degree, I find astrophotography brings me back there and I get excited about it again. Living in a remote, dark place makes it accessible. Karijini was even darker and soon after sunset the Milky Way was visible. We hiked down to Fortesque Falls in the dark and I tried to find the perfect spot to get this shot. Poor Dan sat to the left holding his phone torch to get an even glow over the pool, trees and walls of the gorge during a long exposure, while I adjusted and readjusted... Trying to bring the image in my head to life. After a couple of hours of moving myself, Dan, settings, focus, avoiding the bats flying very close overhead... Here is the result! One shot, no stacking. Hope you like it! P.S. Can you spot Jupiter? #karijini #karijininationalpark #karijiniecoretreat #pilbara #westernaustralia #australia #aboriginalland #seenwa #westernaus #abcmyphoto #wanderoutyander #astrophotography #astro #aussiebucketlist #naturephotography #landscapephotography
