20.01.2022 How to use chlorine bleach (Sodium hypochlorite) to sanitise surfaces against the COVID19 virus 1) Dilute chlorine bleach in a bottle or jug with cold water. 2...) Using gloves, use the solution on a cloth to sanitise door handles, car steering wheels, phones, surfaces. Simply wash the cloth after and reuse it when it has dried. 3) Ensure surfaces are cleaned of visible dirt/grease first. Contact time must be 10mins to effectively kill the virus and pathogens, wipe with solution, and leave for 10mins min or let the surface air dry. 4) Replace solution after 24hrs. Quantities: For 4% sodium hypochlorite use a 1:39 ratio ie. 0.5L water + 13ml bleach For 5% sodium hypochlorite use a 1:49 ratio ie. 0.5L water + 10ml bleach Soak hand flannels in this solution and store in a water proof bag, as they can be used to sanitise surfaces when out. However, this is NOT a replacement for hand washing. Double quantities as needed. Chlorine bleach is one of the most effective santisers, it is readily available and is inexpensive, usually only ~ $2 per bottle. The % of sodium hypochlorite is listed on the label of the bottle, at the front on the bottom. After 24hrs use it to clean your toilet as it will oxidise the ammonia, which means your toilet doesnt smell like urine. The recommended concentration of available chlorine for disinfection of surfaces is 1000 ppm, this concentration has been shown to be effective against COVID19 and the majority of microbial pathogens and viruses.
