25.01.2022 A TOTAL FIREBAN HAS BEEN DECLARED FOR Thursday 30/01/2020 in the Lower Southeast.

25.01.2022 Volunteers and staff from Region 5 would like to convey our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr Murray Sherwell AFSM who passed away on the 30/9/2020. For those that don't know Murray he was employed by CFS in 1979 as a Regional Officer under the Country Fire Act 1976-1986 and was the first paid staff member in CFS Region 5. Murray already had a distinguished service record prior to becoming a staff member serving in both the CFA before joining the EFS in the T...atiara back in 1960 where he rose to the rank of District Officer. Murray was instrumental in conducting some of the first formal training within the Region holding Stage 1,2,3 and 4 courses as 'live in' courses at Karingal Farm near Wrattonbully and was the officer in charge of Region 5 during the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983. Murray was also established the Regions' first HQ which was on the corner of Old Caves Road and Arthur Street in Naracoorte. After leaving the employment of CFS in 1993 Murray continued to volunteer as a Brigade Ops Support member with the Region 5 Headquarters Brigade and was still a member at the time of his passing. His CFS service record shows that Murray has completed over of 60 yrs as both a volunteer and a staff member. Even though Murray has been far less active in his latter years he still dropped into R5HQ when he could to see how things were going. Murray will be missed the entirety of CFS at all levels. The staff of R5HQ would like to thank Murray and his wife Rita for their long a distinguished service to the community of South Australia

24.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone. Be safe, be well.

24.01.2022 Are you Bushfire ready??

24.01.2022 Hi everyone. In response to the COVID-19 (corona virus) situation, I'd like to reassure the Naracoorte and surrounding community that we are still operational and responding to any calls for assistance. We have implemented some protocols and changes within the brigade, to mitigate any risk of exposure. Unfortunately, but in line CFS recommendations, we've had to suspend our Cadet program, regular training and meetings. Please also note that the Fire Station is strictly off li...mits, unless operationally required by our members. I thank everyone for their support and understanding in this situation. The safety and well being of our members, as well as that of our community, are my highest priority. I will advise if and when there are any updates. Please look after yourselves and each other. And remember, in an emergency, please call 000. Steve Hosking Captain Naracoorte CFS Brigade

23.01.2022 This is a little too close for comfort! Please take care and be extra considerate when driving around town. These big rigs take a lot longer to stop!

19.01.2022 Total Fire Bans have been declared for Thursday 19 November 2020 in the following Fire Ban Districts: Mid North - Severe Mount Lofty Ranges - Severe Yorke Penin...sula - Severe Murraylands - Severe Upper South East - Severe Lower South East - Severe Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted. The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow. The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan. FIRE DANGER RATING Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Severe, well prepared and actively defended houses can offer safety during a fire. If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option. In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions. Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight. Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions. 14.01.2022 An Open Letter to the South Australian community: The 2019/20 Fire Danger Season officially finishes at midnight tonight, finalising one of the busiest seasons ...in our history. The CFS really started our season in September, more than a month before our own season officially started, as a horrendous start to the season in Queensland and New South Wales saw local crews stretched to their limits. Over the next three months until after Christmas, CFS dedicated more than 1,300 volunteer firefighter and incident management personnel to help these two states battle unprecedented bushfires. Unfortunately this was only the start of our efforts this season with our own fires burning in catastrophic conditions near Port Lincoln and Yorketown in November, followed by the large fires in Cudlee Creek and Kangaroo Island in December and January. These were only a handful of the thousands of fires our CFS volunteers attended throughout the fire season with large fires in every Region from Keilira in the South East, Coonalpyn, Miltalie on the Eyre Peninsula and unfortunately too many others to name. I took up the role of Chief Officer in October last year and was very quickly impressed by the professionalism and commitment of our many volunteers. This year in particular they gave up so much of their time, put their lives on the line and worked so hard to not only protect their local communities but travel throughout South Australia and interstate to help others. Thanks must also go to the South Australian community who heeded our warning messages at the beginning of the season and prepared their homes against bushfire threat. Unfortunately too many homes were lost with a total of 179 burned this season, many simply because of the ferocity of the fires. The CFS bitterly regrets those losses and the tragic loss of 3 South Australians during the worst of the Fire Danger Season. The community also listened and acted when we issued warning messages. Those three lives lost to bushfires this year is three too many. However, I am thankful that we were able to provide timely and accurate warnings to the communities impacted so they could make safe decisions for themselves and their families. Thank you also to the communities for supporting us and each other throughout the fires. To see the generosity to our firefighters, especially on Christmas Day brought warmth to the heart. Thank you to all of those who have since had bake sales, fundraisers or simply donated to the CFS Foundation. That money will go towards supporting our volunteers in their time of need. I also want to thank CFS staff and our supporting agencies, SA Metropolitan Fire Services, SA State Emergency Service, Department for Environment and Water, SAPOL and all other organisations who contributed. The ability for those staff to get on with the job and provide results is testament to their abilities. At the moment we are continuing to help South Australians by being embedded in the State Command Centre for Health, managing the COVID-19 pandemic in this State. Only days after the request came through, our teams were at SA Health to support them as they faced a health emergency of unknown scale and duration. We knew anything we could do to support them as the control agency had to be a good thing. Of course the work does not end here. Our volunteers continue to attend structure fires, hazardous material incident, road crashes and to assist other agencies, as their work continues. I thank them for their amazing efforts and urge the community to continue to practice fire safety as we move into the winter months, and be careful on our roads. I dearly hope that more normal times will resume once the Coronavirus crisis has passed but South Australians can be assured that its Firefighters remain ready and available to answer calls for help whatever the challenges we face. Mark Jones, Chief Officer SA Country Fire Service

14.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has reissued a thunderstorm warning for the state, which includes the Lower Southeast. There are some severe storms embedded in this system. But how good is it to get some rain in the tanks!?!

13.01.2022 Total Fire Bans have been declared in 8 Fire Ban Districts tomorrow. In light of the COVID-19 advice, we are seeing some changes in how we work as a community.... However, please know that CFS firefighters and aircraft will still be responded if a fire starts, or they receive a call for assistance from the community. Now is a good time though, to ensure your Bushfire Survival Plan is up to date. If you have changed your routine, adjust your plan and know what you will do, should a fire start near you. Before midnight, please ensure all burn offs have been fully extinguished with water and continue to closely monitor them throughout the next day.

13.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL, LARGE HAILSTONES and DAMAGING WINDS for people in parts of Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East, Lower South... Locations which may be affected include Renmark, Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Lameroo, Bordertown and Olary. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Secure or put away loose items around your property. * Move cars under cover or away from trees. * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Don’t drive, ride or walk through flood water. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDS21033.shtml

13.01.2022 With the long weekend upon us and with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, there is certainly a noticeable increase of traffic through town! Please be safe on the roads, take your time, take regular breaks, be patient and don't drink or drug drive! We'd really like to keep this truck in the shed!!

13.01.2022 Fast and efficient work today by our crews to stop the spread of the fire and prevent further damage to the residence, particularly on the back of a large workload this week. The main structure of the residence and some rooms are intact and largely undamaged. Thanks also to Hynam Country Fire Service for coming in to back us up. Thank you also to the neighbors and witnesses who reported the fire. However, we do ask that if you happen to witness a fire or be at a fire scene pr...ior to the arrival of emergency services, that you stay well back. Our appliances require a safe passage to the scene; and while it's great to know that people are willing to jump in and help, the last thing we all need is people injured. It is a much better option to stand back, observe and report. The information you have or what you have seen may be just as crucial. See more
