23.01.2022 Help protect the fairy terns currently nesting on the Rockingham coast. Fairy terns are one of Australia’s smallest and rarest coastal seabirds. They are beach-...nesting birds vulnerable to a range of threats. As a result their population has decreased significantly. A major threat is human disturbance of nest sites. You can help to protect fairy terns by taking a few simple steps when visiting the coast: Be mindful of fenced-off nest sites with fairy tern nesting signage and keep well away. These are in place temporarily to give the birds a chance to have some breeding success. Keep dogs leashed and away from known breeding areas. Dogs can unintentionally injure chicks that are unable to flee the nest. Prevent cats from roaming. See more

21.01.2022 Our natural environment has been identified as one of the top priorities for residents. I have long felt that our City would benefit from having a dedicated Com...munity Advisory Committee to cover Environment. We have them for several other interest areas/ issues impacting our community but nothing with a specific focus on our environment. That’s why at the December 2020 Annual Meeting of Electors I put up a motion for the establishment of a dedicated Community Advisory Committee for Environment & Sustainability which was supported by electors on the night. My motion That Council consider the creation of an additional City Advisory Committee to cover sustainability and environment’ to provide an opportunity for community representatives to provide advice to Council on environmental matters is now on the Council agenda for consideration this Tuesday 25.05.21. If you support such a committee please help me raise awareness by sharing this post

20.01.2022 Can you tell the difference between our WA native Corellas and the introduced (and invasive) Eastern Corellas? Eastern Long Billed Corellas are easily recognisa...ble by the more intense crimson markings on their face and "slit throat" markings on their necks. Whereas our WA native Corellas (Little and Western) tend to have much paler facial colourings, and no "slit throat" neck markings, or have very pale neck markings. See more
