24.01.2022 HAND HYGIENE Hi everyone. The most important thing to remember is good hand hygiene. This hasn't changed. Soap is still the best at destroying the virus. And if you are going to use hand sanitisers, please remember that anything less than 60% alcohol is ineffective! Ideally it needs to be 60-80%. So please check when you buy or use it (that's if you can even get it), that it is medical grade. ... Keep safe and we will see you in a few months.

24.01.2022 Update on Power Outage. Good morning folks. Just wanted to keep everyone up to date with our power situation at Narangba Village. The sparkies were able to get single phase power back to all of the complex last night but not 3 phase (which we need to run our suction unit ). We've contacted management and are still waiting for their response. ... Janine and Jess should have contacted those affected this morning as we were finally able to access our computer network late last night after getting our software up and running. We will keep this thread updated as we hear more from them. Thanks. The team at Narangba dental

23.01.2022 Dental joke for a Sunday morning. Hope everyone has a great week.

21.01.2022 If you have a spare 60 minutes, this was on ABC recently. Some good general information for everyone.

21.01.2022 A good dental joke to start the year.

21.01.2022 Dr Tom, Dr Therese, Dr Chris, Dr Philip, Dr Mingyang, Dr Lauren and the team at Narangba Dental would like to take this time to say Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone. We wish you many happy memories with your loved ones during this special time of year. Looking forward to a big 2020.

18.01.2022 Latest updates. **Opening Mondays for Emergencies** Hi everyone. Things are constantly changing day by day and one good thing that has truly helped us lately is the very low number of new cases as well as the recent government assistance in keeping businesses open and staff employed. ... While the practice has been in hibernation the last 3 weeks, we have been manning the emergency phone line on a limited basis. We have had lots of phones calls during this time and though many have been non-essential, and under level 3 restrictions, these treatments must be delayed, we have fielded a number of calls where we are now trying to open the practice to treat our patients for emergency treatment. While those numbers are relatively small, we feel that we can possibly provide our patients needed treatment under these restrictions. We will have a dentist on rotation available on Mondays, and may possibly add Thursdays if required. We hope this will help in a small way. Thank you for all your well wishes and support during this difficult time. We do very much appreciate all your kind words and thoughts. Tom and the team.

18.01.2022 Great news. We are now back. CRT IT has got our internet, our network and Hicaps running again. PracticeWorks is working . The chairs are working and everything else we can sort out later. THANK YOU again for being sooooooooo patient .

18.01.2022 URGENT NOTICE! Dental practices are now on Level 2 restrictions. The Australian Dental Association (ADA) has advised dental practices to provide only urgent and emergency dental treatments for the time being, and to defer any routine or non-urgent dental treatment due to the COVID-19 outbreak.... At Narangba Dental, we understand the need to be available to help those with urgent treatment and toothaches, and we will still be open from Monday to Friday (with reduced hours) to treat dental emergencies. We will still be operational, but limiting treatment to patients who require the following: Dental extractions Root canal treatment Large and/or symptomatic fillings Treatment of gum-related diseases Other dental-related pain. If you are unsure whether your treatment will fall under those categories, please ring us at (07) 3886 7411 during business hours and we will do our best to get back to you as soon as we can. Nb. We do expect to hit level 3 restrictions soon and will keep you informed as information becomes available with affected appointments being assessed on a monthly basis. We understand this will affect a lot of our patients and we apologise. However, this position has not been taken lightly by the Australian Dental Association and has been done in consultation with the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and the Chief Medical Officer for the protection of you, our patients, your family and friends, as well as our staff and family. We will get through this. *** Please share this with your family and friends as level 2 restriction is recommended nationwide. It will affect everyone but a necessity to ensure everyone is kept safe in these unprecedented and challenging times. Thank you for your understanding. Dr Tom and the team at Narangba Dental.

18.01.2022 Hi everyone. Just a friendly reminder that we are closed for the Ekka public holiday and will reopen 8am Tuesday. Have a great long weekend.

17.01.2022 Latest report shows Australians are keeping their teeth for longer, but the rate of untreated tooth decay has increased to 32% and periodontal disease has also increased to 29%. And only 53% of adults are brushing their teeth twice a day.

17.01.2022 Some of our patients are so talented. Thank you for your Christmas cards and gifts and kind words. One of our wonderful patients, Maria, makes these handmade cards and we look forward to receiving it every year.

17.01.2022 ADAQ Annual Clinic Day. Updating our knowledge and keeping our brains stimulated. Today was all about children - orthodontics, hypomineralisation of teeth as well as decay and filling materials in children. I took photos of the lectures.... and Philip took photos of our lunch

17.01.2022 Temporary shut down... again. Good even folks. The good news keep rolling through. Just when we thought we had turned the corner, and getting back up and running, we've been hit with another setback. The mains power is back but we've lost 2 autoclaves/sterilisers, our X-ray scanner, our radio, our computer network and our internet . We've had the IT guys here all day and they're coming back early tomorrow and hopefully the sparkies will be there to work out a solution.... We've rescheduled the morning appointments and will make a decision regarding the afternoon once we get more information. I'm going to call this character building . Sorry for all the inconvenience again. The team.

16.01.2022 Addition to our dental family. We are excited to announce Dr Lauren Gilkison will be joining our team in January 2020.

16.01.2022 Automated SMS/email glitch??? Hi everyone, It does appear that our practice software may still be sending through its monthly automated sms or email reminders regarding recall appointments. ... Our apologies as the system should have ceased doing this especially when only urgent or emergency treatment are currently permitted with level 3 restrictions. So please ignore if you do receive it and we will check why it's still happening. However, you may have received one to reschedule your non-essential appointment and that one is correct. Lastly, if you wish to not be reminded, just let us know you and we'll certainly get that sorted for you ASAP and remove you from the recall list. Thanks for reading all the way to the bottom. It was a truly, mind-blowing and one of the, if not, most exciting posts I've ever done! Tom

16.01.2022 Coronavirus. With the recent attention in the news of several positive cases, we like to share the latest health directive from the Australian Government regarding this virus. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/coronavirus

14.01.2022 It was Halloween recently. I thought we'd put some really serious and educational pictures for your dental learning experience . Have a great weekend.

13.01.2022 Corona Virus update. Hi everyone. With new information about this virus coming out every day, the recommendations from the Australian Government are constantly changing. Our own Australian Dental Association are also sending our regular information for members to implement for our individual practices. There are no hard or fast rules. ... So just reminding everyone that if returning from one of the highly affected countries in the last 2 weeks, the risk of contracting the virus is higher and please consider self quarantine until after the potential infection period (14 days). We ask anyone with any cold/flu symptoms to let us know prior to your appointment and to reschedule to a later date. We need to be extra cautious during this period for everyone's safety and may respectfully ask those with such symptoms to reschedule on the day. This includes any of our dental staff who develop symptoms of cold/flu as well. It is worth noting that 80% of coronavirus infections are mild, 20% are moderately to severe and 5 % are critical with the highest risk factors being the elderly and those who are immunocompromised. This is most important. Practice good hand hygiene. This is the best way to prevent the spread. Masks have not been shown to prevent contracting the virus. It has, however, been shown to help reduce the spread by those who have already been affected. Rest assured, Narangba Dental maintain the highest infection control protocols possible and these reminders are simply part of the process of keeping our patients well informed of current situations. Thank you for your understanding.

13.01.2022 Our waiting room wall has been, well, a bit lopsided the last 2 years. We feel a little more balanced now that Dr Lauren has had her Bachelor of Dentistry degree framed and hanging up along with the rest of ours. Dr Tom, Dr Therese, Dr Chris, Dr Philip, Dr Ming, and Dr Lauren are proud University of Queensland graduates with over 95 years of combined dental experience. And we promise these degrees aren't printed from the internet... maybe .

12.01.2022 Just a quick reminder that we are closed today. We will reopen at 8am on Monday. Hope you have a great weekend everyone... even with all this rain. We need it.

12.01.2022 Hope you all had a good Easter, albeit at home, but with your wonderful families.

11.01.2022 And while we're on the topic of Coronavirus, this came to our attention recently. All of us at Narangba Dental (Dr Tom, Dr Chris, Dr Therese, Dr Philip, Dr Ming and Dr Lauren) are very proud University of Queensland (Dental School) graduates. So we were all excited to hear a research team at UQ were one of only 3 teams around the world chosen to develop a vaccine for this new virus. We hope they are successful. They have been given 4 months to develop it. Good luck.

10.01.2022 I've been asked a few times recently regarding tongue ties and whether a release is necessary. Here is the ADA's position based on the available evidence to date. ADA Ankyloglossia statement 4th June 2020

10.01.2022 It's Dental Health Week folks. We encourage everyone to peruse through the ADA website for all the latest information regarding this years event. If you have any questions regarding your oral health, feel free to ask us below.

10.01.2022 Doing the annual CPR update at our practice this week. A big thank you to Katy again from LinkCPR who came out to make sure we were all behaving...

10.01.2022 Gum disease is the other common disease of the mouth besides tooth decay. We've always known certain bugs play a key role in people getting gum disease. Now a team of scientists in Germany have shown in a study that ~80% of gum disease is caused by amoebas such as E. Gingivalis.

10.01.2022 Dentures aren't made of gold and hippo ivory like they use to. This 200 year old denture would have cost it's owner 1/2 a house back in the day.

09.01.2022 We have wonderful patients at Narangba Dental. A box of Cadbury Favourites to get us through the day while we sort out this mess. Thank you.

08.01.2022 A recent update from the Australian Dental Association. No change in our requirements for dental treatment. We are an essential health service. We also have some of the most rigorous infection prevention and control standards in the world. We will continue to keep you up to date. Once again, please use your usual precautions, but do not be fearful. ... Have a good day everyone.

07.01.2022 Dr Philip and Dr Tom attended the ADAQ Annual Clinic Day today. The theme for this event was "Paediatrics. Prediction and Practice". It's was quite appropriate considering we are holding our 1st Kids Dental Day tomorrow. There's still a few available appointments left after 10.40am so if you have a child under 12 who would like a free check up in a calm and relaxed environment, click the link below and we will see you tomorrow with face painting, balloon art and a happy smile.

07.01.2022 Please stay home if you are sick . I use to work even when I had the cold. I think it was just in-built into many of us that we had to work no matter what. Times are definitely changing. Getting a sore throat and a runny nose on Saturday, I got tested for Covid-19 and the results came back negative as expected (Qld only has 3 active cases). ... But as new regulations and work policies have come into effect, no one at our practice can be at work (our staff) or be treated (our patients) if there are signs or symptoms of cold/flu/covid. Reception staff are screening patients to make sure the workplace is safe for both you and our staff. And as for me, I still have a chesty cough so I'm staying at home and keeping my germs to myself. Thanks for understanding everyone. I'm hoping the cold and flu season isn't as big as previous years. Tom and the team.

06.01.2022 Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous new year.

05.01.2022 Hi everyone just an update on how we’re going. The good news is that we will be open tomorrow as we have got power back, and all our dental chairs are operational! However, disasters come in twos, and our practice software has not saved any changes that were made today. This means that we have lost all the bookings that were rescheduled from yesterday or today. To our lovely patients, could you please call us tomorrow morning if you have either: Had an appointment resched...uled from today or yesterday OR Called us today to make an appointment We will do our best to get to everyone tomorrow and confirm your appointments. Thanks for bearing with us! Love from the Narangba Dental Team.

05.01.2022 I know it's been a really rough few weeks but we got to keep our heads up and smile... we will get through this together! Enjoy your weekend everyone.

04.01.2022 We get asked a lot about which private health fund is best. The fact is it's difficult to say as it depends on your own personal circumstances. But think about this... Do you find it weird that "you" are paying for private health insurance, yet you don't get a choice of who you see when these big corps are constantly pushing you towards their own preferred provider network. The whole purpose of private health is "choice". To be able to choose who you want to see and to rec...eive the "same" rebates as others on the same premiums as you. To not be penalised for "not" wanting to see someone within their own network, someone who may not have been recommended by family or friends. That's not choice! That's what BUPA and Medibank Private want you to do. We've received lots of stories from our patients being pressured by their salespeople over the phone and at their shopfronts. Remember, they are publicly listed companies with the sole purpose of generating profits for their shareholders, not their members. So we understand it's "purely" a business decision for them. But if you are looking for value, the Australian Health Service Alliance members, comprising of 27 funds which are member owned and not-for-profit is a good place to start. The AMA (Australian Medical Association) have assessed the funds recently and generally found their rebates to be better than the big health funds. But please do your own homework.

03.01.2022 Hi everyone. We are holding our 1st ever Kids Dental Day on Saturday November 30th. We are making it a day for kids under 12 to have a simple check up (keeping it really simple), a chat about oral hygiene, for parents and kids to ask questions, and most importantly, doing this in a relaxed and fun environment. It would be especially great for kids who may be anxious about seeing a dentist. We are even having face painting and balloon art for the kids after their check up.... And best of all, it's free. To make an appointment, click onto our website and make an online booking for 30th November, or alternatively, call us on 3886 7411 and one of our reception staff will be more than happy to help. Looking forward to seeing you there. The team at Narangba Dental. https://www.narangbadentist.com.au/childrens-check-up-day

02.01.2022 EMERGENCY PHONE LINE & TRIAGE. We have now diverted the land line to the emergency mobile phone during our hibernation and like most changes, there have been a few technical glitches we are trying to sort out. The emergency phone doesn't appear to ring and we can only tell there's been a call made after an email is sent to us that a call was made to our phone. Please be patient while our phone provider sorts this issue for us. If it is non-urgent treatment, then unfortun...ately, legally, as it currently stands, there is not much we can help you with based on the government mandated restrictions. If you have a true emergency (toothache, pain, infection or facial swelling), then we can triage and give appropriate advice or scripts for pain relief and antibiotics. We will also be able to guide you in the right direction. A dentist will be available to answer calls from 9-11am Monday to Friday until we can reopen. And until the issue is resolved, we will call you back as soon as we can. We will continue to do this until the coronavirus is under control, when these government restrictions are lifted, and when we can source appropriate PPE. Nb. It is important to leave your name, number and a short message regarding your dental concern for us to call you back. Thanks again and hope there are very few emergencies during this time. Dr Tom

02.01.2022 Great news. **LEVEL 2 RESTRICTIONS** The federal government has just announced dentistry will be back to Level 2 restrictions as of next week (26th April). ... That is much better news for us and for many of our patients who have had to wait patiently to be seen. Unfortunately, it will still be restrictive in many ways, but it will allow us to provide a broader range of treatments such as crown and bridgework, root canal treatment, fillings and possibly cleans, which were simply not allowed under level 3. The ADA has told us level 2 restrictions will be different to the last definition so we are awaiting their response as to exactly what this will be. This announcement will allow us to open more days as of next week and expect it will improve our operational capacity to around 30%. We won't be complaining about that . For all those who we have had to reschedule or have asked us to remind them when level 2 eventuates, we will be in contact over the next few days to make arrangements. Please be aware that we do not know how long level 2 will remain in place and whether the next move will be down to level 1 or back up to level 3 or even level 4 and 5. Those decisions will be dictated by what happens over the next few weeks and months if further outbreaks eventuate and what measures are required to contain the spread. I'm not a political person by any means but I, for one, believe the government in this instance has done a wonderful job in controlling this virus. I had my doubts initially, and as a health professional, with a safety 1st mindset, thought the government needed to clamp down much earlier. I have been proven wrong. Excellent work by the government here. Tom

02.01.2022 URGENT NOTICE ADA LEVEL 3 RESTRICTIONS & UPCOMING CLOSURE! Hi everyone. Due to the ongoing threat of this pandemic, the high level of restrictions placed on the profession and for the safety of our patients and staff, Narangba Dental has decided to close its doors from 6.30pm Tuesday 31st march. We have been busy the last few days contacting patients to reschedule non-essential treatment (as per restrictions) and to move some patients forwards to complete urgent treatme...nt. We apologise for the inconvenience this pandemic has created for a lot of our patients but it has simply been out of our control. We do remain open for emergency treatment and for those who are at high risk of developing problems, up until that date. Once closed, we will have a staff member available to answer emergency calls for triaging. You will be asked questions relating to the covid-19 virus as a precaution and advice from one of our dentists if indicated. How long we remain closed is unfortunately unknown, and we will make these decisions on a month to month basis. Should it extend longer than we hope, our staff will contact our patients for the following month. We all pray this ends quickly so life can get back to normal (as possible). So many people have been affected and are hurting right now, including a lot of our staff. We hope to be back to our regular routines once this blows over so please bear with us during this adjustment period. Please stay safe and do your part to keep everyone else safe too. Dr Tom and the team at Narangba Dental

01.01.2022 **Back to Level 1** Great news everyone. Because of the great work this nation has done over the last few months and since level 2 restrictions, we are now almost back to normal. Only 45 active cases in all of Qld which is brilliant. Level 1 restrictions means only those who are confirmed cases or suspected of having covid-19 are to be delayed for treatment. Otherwise, no further restrictions with dental treatments bar the usual standard social distancing precautions. B...elow is the ADA link for level 1 decision tree. 01.01.2022 We held our 1st ever Kids Dental Day on Saturday and it felt like there was a really good vibe around the practice. We really tried to make it as comfortable and relaxed as possible for the kids. A big thanks to Laura who did some really cool face (and arm) painting for our little patients as well as the balloon art. A big congrats to Sebastian who also won the Oral B 9000 electric toothbrush. We've heard whispers he already has one so mum has apparently stolen it . Th...e day was all about getting kids as comfortable as possible in a dental setting and to show everyone that dentists aren't big scary monsters. We think it was a success and we might even make it an annual thing . Dr Tom, Dr Philip, Dr Ming and our team would like to thank all our little patients and their parents for helping us make this a really cool day for everyone.
