24.01.2022 Perth Royal, day 4. I’m envious of his ability to flake out in the hay!!
22.01.2022 Our late lambing ewes, heading back out to pasture to fend for themselves a little longer. The last few years we have managed our ewes with a 5 week joining. Shortening the joining period makes management throughout the rest of the year more straightforward - rather than having lambs born across 6 or 8 weeks, or 3 months! We always get a bit of a staggered start between the polls and the horns, so this year we have gone with a 21 day joining and a second 21 day joining 3 w...eeks later. It means we are now lambing across 9 weeks, but we can be much more focused with our pasture and feeding management. We have pregnancy scanned the ewes (2 dry hoggets out of 71 ewes), so we can support twin bearing ewes where necessary and not waste extra energy on those with single conceptions. We can also be really precise with pasture management in our lambing paddocks. Couple of extra sessions in the yards, but it has been good to be really on top of it this year. Roll on lambing looks like our earlys will be quite compressed as it was day 148 on Saturday! See more
22.01.2022 Stunning day for a bit of sheep graffiti! IDing our ewes pre lambing.
20.01.2022 We will be doing a Nardie boxed lamb run over the next couple of weeks. Ready for Chrissy and BBQ season!! DM me for details if you are interested. Boxes will range from about 18-24kg.
20.01.2022 Not the lads favourite time of the year! But a halter session in April helps...
16.01.2022 #124 is having her first lamb this year, she was a pet (realistically they are all pets!) and is sticking very close to home!! She is right outside the house gate each morning and just likes to be around in our space. Looking forward to seeing her with her own lamb.
13.01.2022 As I head out to the farm for a bit of show prep, the breeders in Victoria are heading into their big day. Wilties are the feature breed at the royal Melbourne show this year and the teams have worked extremely hard to put on a good show. Congratulations and I hope you all have a terrific day!!!!
09.01.2022 Ladies in waiting! Lambs have started, hopefully not too long for this girl...
09.01.2022 Have boxed lamb on the way, pick up/delivery next Thursday evening (4th June). Mostly on order but may have 1 or 2 to spare. DM me!
08.01.2022 If shedding sheep are to be competitive with a wool enterprise they need to be at 180% for reproductive rate. That’s 180 lambs for every 100 ewes joined. Reproduction has very low heritability and is largely delivered through management. I am actually not sure what we did to arrive at this little flush of triplets, but this girl certainly helping our reproductive rate!!
07.01.2022 Five (5) sets of triplets in the last 2 days!!! That’s a bit above our usual rate, and definitely not in that time frame... looking forward to getting some pix next week. In the meantime their mums have them cleaned up and are sticking close to their birth spots. So important for ewes to have energy stored on board and available feed at the birth spot so they can focus on making sure these lambs survive the crucial first 24-48 hours.
07.01.2022 What a magical morning! What a beautiful place! Good day for a bit of wet sheep action....
06.01.2022 Stunning day today, I had a quick trip home to check a ewe who is a bit sore but doing a beautiful job with her twins. I did catch a couple of sets of triples, and was leaving right on evening lamb play time!!! Bit blurry, but such a pretty evening...
03.01.2022 Hey preppers! Kidding... sort of. Hope you are well and working hard in isolation - love to hear what you are up to! I am fluctuating between meditating with our lovely ewes at home, and freaking out in the home office! We will be doing a boxed lamb run in the next couple of weeks - let me know if you are interested, boxes will range from 17-23kg, we can do halves. Get in touch below, DM or by mobile if preferred.
01.01.2022 Ewes available. Mix of hogget maidens and 2nd season ewes (2017&2018 drop). Can’t keep em all... some stud quality ewes in here, polls and horns.
