16.01.2022 BUSHFIRE APPEAL If you have any shoes that are in good condition (clean with no holes or worn out soles) that are unwanted (you know those shoes we have banned you from wearing) then please drop them by the practice for us to send through to those who have lost everything. We wont send these straight away so as to not distract from the urgent fire fighting efforts.... Simply drop off the shoes to Philippa at front desk and we will do the rest!
15.01.2022 Channeling her best concerned look (the one that makes her husband nervous), Narelle talked to the Mercury today to remind people to not neglect good footwear at home - and to slowly increase activity levels to avoid injury. Key Points: 1. If working from home, try to wear your runners or at the very least some cushioning thongs (such as Archies) to avoid developing heel pain - especially if you have hard flooring.... 2. If you havent been a runner before - or even regularly walked, gradually increase your distance over a few weeks to give your body time to adapt. We are seeing quite a few new injuries in our regular patients who have decided to triple their activity over night!
15.01.2022 USE IT OR LOSE IT Do you need a NEW pair of ORTHOTICS? Private health funds allow one (1) pair of orthotics per year. ... This means you only have a short time left to use any remaining allowance. This is something you have already paid for so make sure you make the most of your private health and use your benefit amount before the end of the year - or you will lose it! AND in even better news, weve just discovered some funds will allow you to order a NEW PAIR from an existing script WITHOUT requiring an appointment! Check with us or your fund for further information.
14.01.2022 Finally! We have been talking about this for a while but have decided the time is right to commence our Medi Pedi services. Driven by frustration at not being able to have her damaged toe nails reconstructed and lacquered in a manner that doesnt give a podiatrist the shivers (think toe nail fungus, non-sterile instruments, nail lacquers used on who-knows how many crumbly toe nails), Narelle and the girls at Foot Systems have bitten the bullet and will commence providing the ultimate in infection controlled pedicures from our podiatry rooms. Call reception on 62 344 055 for an appointment or book online!

10.01.2022 TELEHEALTH & PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES FOR COVID-19 To all of our valued patients, we would like to update you on the precautions we have put in place at the practice and ideas for minimising your chances of exposure to COVID-19. 1. TELEHEALTH OPTIONS for many consults. We have a variety of options to remotely connect with you. ... NEW PATIENTS can via TELEHEALTH give a detailed patient history, we can assess footwear, do simple measures of balance and strength, and for those a little more tech savvy we can even do a visual gait assessment. FOLLOW UPS can also been done easily over TELEHEALTH. You can demonstrate over a video link areas of pressure from your orthoses which can then be sent to us at the practice for adjustments and then sent back to you at NO CHARGE for shipping. EXERCISES can be given remotely via Physitrack - a software program that allows us to demonstrate and email to you an app that will load an individualised program of exercises that we decide upon in the consultation 2. FREQUENT CLEANING of high traffic area such as the front door handle (which we will leave open on pleasant days), reception counter, pens, waiting room and podiatry consulting rooms. 3. HAND SANITISER placed at the front door to use upon entry (and plenty of hot water and soap for a good hand wash). 4. Open 6 DAYS A WEEK to allow the podiatrists to work on separate days so that there is only yourself, the podiatrist and the receptionist in the practice. 5. To avoid the need to touch parking meters (and parking is much easier at the moment!), download the EASYPARK app from the app stores. https://www.hobartcity.com.au//Par/How-to-pay-for-parking Please dont hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns about your appointment on 62 344 055.

06.01.2022 Sadly very true. While pills & surgery are necessary in some cases, they are best used if lifestyle changes fail. Usually these lifestyle changes have to happen even with pills & surgery anyway!!!

02.01.2022 A fabulous quote by Edward Stanley from the early 1800s. Not much has changed! Exercise doesnt have to be structured classes or intense exertion. Just get out and move!
02.01.2022 Earlier this week we discussed how much of an issue chronic pain is in society. Now lets focus on the foot and ankle and what we know about pain in those regions.

01.01.2022 Weekend testing of the super stylish new Bared Noddy high top sneaker. Great for: #1. Extra ankle support for unstable ankles. #2. Extra deep/high volume to take a decent sized full length orthotic.... #3. Built in heel pitch (you all know how I hate the mechanics of flat shoes!!!) #4. Wider generous toe box that wont pinch toes Wearing in tips: #1. Dont over stride! The hidden heel pitch can create a slapping down feeling if you take too big a step. Use this slap feeling or sound as a reminder that shorter, faster steps are better as they create stronger, more co-ordinated muscles. #2. Wear socks, and wear for a few hours at a time to allow the leathers to soften and mould to your forefoot flex points. Leave the laces loose around the forefoot but firm around the arch and ankle while breaking in can help too! The stronger leathers and sole units are worth the breaking in time. The shoe will last you longer and support you better than shoes that feel soft & light. The break in is worth it! #baredfootwear #podiatristdesigned
