21.01.2022 AUTUMN CLUB GUEST SPEAKER Last Thursday the Autumn Club had the pleasure of welcoming Des Smoker as their guest speaker. Des who had travelled to Port Hedland a few years ago, became involved with the Seafarers and explained what they do and how we can help the seamen who pass through the port. The Sailors are out at sea for many months, and they just love our beanies over the top of their caps during the freezing northern winter months. These beanies are also added to the Ch...ristmas gift bag for those that are in Port Hedland at Christmas time. Around 2000 beanies are given out each year. The Autumn Clubs wishes to thank Des for his informative talk and helping us to extend a helping hand to another needy organisation. See more

20.01.2022 AUTUMN CLUB - END OF YEAR LUNCH AT MYOLA To celebrate the end of year’s activities, members of the Autumn Cllub gathered at Myola Restaurant last Thursday to mark the occasion. Taria and Frank of Myola served up a feast as usual, the main course being followed by a choice of plum pudding or pavlova (both superb). Carmel outlined the many organizations which have benefited from the items made and distributed. The number of recipients has grown noticeably, but there always seem...s to be enough to go round. Feedback from the groups receiving has been very positive. In 2020 we hope to have more guest speakers such as Damian Walsh from Shopfront who addressed us in March this year and who has recently been in touch to say how much the items were appreciated. Carmel also made special mention of the support given to the club by Rosemary Smoker of Dorcas. Diane Miolini thanked Carmel for her leadership and inspiration throughout the year. Two lucky number parcels, donated by Kerry Fricker were passed around and the winners were Tony Miolini and Dale Dixon. A big thank you to Kerry who was unfortunately unable to be with us on the day. Joy Hayter surprised us all with a gift of her special homemade cheese straws, very handy for the Christmas snacks. We look forward to another happy and productive year in 2020 and take the opportunity to wish members of the community a very happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.

17.01.2022 Danelle Hudnott (Fricker) delivered a parcel of baby blankets, beanies, booties and jackets to the Port Hedland maternity ward. These items were knitted and crocheted by the Autumn Club ladies. Just love having Danelle in Port Hedland - thanks Danelle

10.01.2022 PARCEL GOES TO BHUTAN FROM THE AUTUMN CLUB In September this year Kate Palmer went to Bhutan as part of her nursing degree. While there she visited the Bhutanese hospital and delivered a parcel to the sick children and premature babies. The cost and availability of health care facilities in Bhutan is an issue of affordability and sustainability. We were glad to be able to put a happy smile on this little boy’s face!

This certificate is issued to services that are activity designed to bring people together, who would not normally meet, to do things for others and advance goodwill and understanding. 04.01.2022 BEANIES GO NORTH A bundle of beanies knitted by members of the Narembeen Autumn Club were delivered to the Port Hedland Seafarers last week by Danelle Hudnott (Fricker) and Glenys Wanless. While there they were taken on a tour of the Seafarers facilities and the Port. Seafarers is run by the Anglican Church and has an online shop for the saliors to get provisions. Each Christmas the Seafarers give out around 2000 beanies in hamper parcels.... Anywhere from 20 to 30 ships can be waiting to come into the Port to be loaded, with ships waiting out at sea between 2 to 7 days before coming into the port. The ships take 36 hours to load the iron ore, then 14 days to sail from Port Hedland to China where they turn around to come back. Each ship has 23 sailors and each contracted for nine months. Some of the men have been on the ships for 14 months now because of Covid 19. Garry South, Seafarers Anglican Minister sent photos of the Filipino Crew wearing the beanies saying that anything under 25 degrees is cold".

04.01.2022 The Autumn Club would like to thank John Cobley, Narembeen Dentist for delivering a bag of blankets to Shopfront last week. Shopfront a LifeLink funded agency, has relocated from Maylands to 59 John St, Bentley, is a local drop-in centre offering hospitality and support to those finding life tough, providing a light lunch, coffee and tea for its visitors.

01.01.2022 AUTUMN CLUB REOPENS WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING After spending the last seven weeks in isolation it was exciting for our members to get back to a little normality. We will continue to open in keeping within the Coronavirus guidelines. While at home members produced parcels, dolls by Diane Miolini, which will be sent to PNG, teddies, blankets and much more, some that have already been sent off to various places include, beanies for the Seafarers, Port Hedland and blankets & beani...es to Share and Care, Northam. In response to a request by the Carnarvon Hospital a parcel of premature baby clothes, made by Colleen Crowd and Dale Dixon was sent to the Carnarvon Hospital, who were very grateful for the swift turnaround. The highlight of last week was celebrating Rhonda Hickey’s 80th birthday. Our members were thrilled to be able to share this special occasion with Rhonda, and show her how we appreciate her caring and generosity within the club and the wider community. See more
