24.01.2022 Candle’s, incense and oil burners have become a staple in Australian homes and they are often used for social, cultural and religious practices. With increased time spent indoors during the cooler months CFA is reminding residents to use these products safely. Residents need to keep in mind that although candles and oil burners can be a pleasant addition to the home, leaving them unattended could be disastrous. It’s important to only use candles, incense and oil burners on a stable, non-combustible surface but to also keep curtains and other items away from open flames at all times. Ensure you always extinguish candles, incense, oil burners and cigarettes before leaving home or going to sleep.

09.01.2022 Kitchen fires, the preventable problem! Residents are being reminded to not become complacent in the kitchen as cooking is the single largest cause of fire in the home. Preventing a fire comes down to simple things like being aware of what distracts you when you’re in the kitchen and setting a timer so you don’t forget about what’s on the stove. We encourage all residents to pay attention in their kitchen; appliances should be clean, free from built up grease and children mus...t always be supervised. Small mistakes like leaving tea towels and paper towels close to the heat source can also have serious consequences. People have an ‘it will never happen to me’ mindset, but the reality is that it does happen. Everyone needs to pay attention to the small mistakes that can cause fires at home. See more
