23.01.2022 At Narnia, all our educators share a daily time of devotions with the children, where we read Bible stories and say thankful prayers. One of the Narnia educators completed the intensive three day ‘Godly Play Core Training’ to achieve accreditation as a Godly Play Storyteller (through the organisation Godly Play Australia). Godly Play is a Montessori method of telling Bible stories, developed by Jerome Berryman, using simple materials. The children love exploring the mystery of God through this hands-on, play-based approach to Biblical storytelling. In most religious education programs, children are told what God did. In Godly Play children discover who God is through parables, sacred stories and liturgical lessons about religious traditions.

23.01.2022 This is our beautiful little sensory garden, with home grown succulents. The children love to come and visit this area when they need a little quiet time.

23.01.2022 Advent is a time when children can truly experience the mystery of Christmas through Godly Play. At Narnia, the spirit of Advent encouraged the educators to slow down, take time, and to experience the mystery with the children. We took the time to wonder

23.01.2022 On Friday a high school art teacher at SPCC came in to visit and read the book, Katie and the Sunflowers by James Mayhew. In the book, Katie tries to pick the sunflower seeds from the Vincent Van Gogh painting, Sunflowers, but when the vase tips over, the flowers go everywhere. The children had an art lesson where they were taught how to draw Van Gough’s painting of Sunflowers. The children were beautifully engaged in this lesson and it was wonderful to see them ‘sign’ their own artworks by writing their names on the vases. Thank you to Jo for sharing her precious time and talents with us.

23.01.2022 NATIONAL BOOK WEEK We are very excited to announce that we will celebrate National Book Week from Monday 19th October - Friday 23rd. During this time we would love all the children to dress as their favourite book characters. The educators will be joining in the fun and dressing up every day, for the whole week. We will also be collecting a gold coin donation for Narnia's sponsor child, throughout the week.

21.01.2022 Welcome back to all our families - we cannot wait to see you tomorrow. Due to current circumstances with COVID-19, it is a requirement that all parents and visitors entering the centre wear a mask. This includes when picking up or dropping off your child. We also now have a QR code on our front door which all adults will be required to scan and check in. This is in addition to the regular signing in of your child. We also ask that only one parent/carer come into the centre for drop off/pick up and siblings either stay by a parent's side, or wait in our enclosed fenced entry area. Thank you so much.

16.01.2022 Last week the prep children visited the textiles room, at St Philip's Christian College, for a textiles lesson. The qualified Textiles and Design Secondary Teacher had a wonderful lesson planned for our prep children. She had some pre-made calico bags that were donated by the SPCC Art department and had prepared iron-on transfers of the names of each child for their individual bags. The children decorated their library bags using shaving cream marbling. Next time they visit the SPCC library they will have some very fancy homemade library bags to place their borrowed books in. Thank you so much to Julie for giving up her precious time (in the school holidays) to give our children such a wonderful experience.

14.01.2022 The children were very excited to receive a visit from Craig at 'Kids on Congas' today at Narnia. Craig's COVID safe workshop was fast and high in energy and the children had a wonderful time drumming and dancing. Thank you so much Craig for bringing us so much fabulous fun!

11.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. W...e are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. We built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Our adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming we transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our coastal Nations watched and interacted with at least 36 contacts made by Europeans prior to 1770. Many of them resulting in the charting of the northern, western and southern coastlines of our lands and our waters. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be.

10.01.2022 What a fabulous week we have had celebrating NAIDOC Week 2020. We started off the week and ended up the week with two very special Kamilaroi women, Gemma and Krystyna, sharing their time and talents with us. Gemma shared the story of her very special artwork Connection, which she painted and donated to Narnia, which now has pride of place in our foyer. Krystyna shared a beautiful time of storytelling with our children. Thank you to both these women for sharing their pass...ion and helping us to learn more about their culture. We continued our NAIDOC week celebrations, by playing games and participating in some beautiful art/craft and playdough experiences, using the clay, gumnuts, wattle, banksias, leaves and sticks that were found on our bushwalk. We ground clay to make ochre and used our handprints to make a large mural. Puppets were used and a beautiful Small World Play provocation was created to teach the children about traditional clothing, dance, songs, flags and animals. The children learnt about some traditional Bush Tucker and current edible native plants and then participated in a Wombat Stew drama experience. They acted out the story and put in the ingredients to make their own ‘stew’, which they placed on the ‘campfire’ at the end. One little boy was so involved in the experience that he came back after half an hour and asked. Is my Wombat Stew cooked yet? We also watched a program called "Little J and Big Cuz", found on the SBS, featuring an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cast. After viewing this show and discussing the themes with the children afterwards, they were more able to appreciate the worldviews of Australia’s First Nations Peoples. At the end of the week we are proud that the Narnia children are starting to understand that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, families and children are knowledge holders and we will continue to engage with First Nations Peoples in our community to hear their stories of Country and life experiences.

10.01.2022 We have just farewelled our lovely Mrs Vanessa who worked her last day at Narnia yesterday. Vanessa has worked tirelessly at Narnia over the last eleven years and has loved working with so many different families over this time. She will be dearly missed by both the staff and children at Narnia.

09.01.2022 We are seeking to employ a Part-time Diploma trained Early Childhood Education and Care Educator to commence in January 2021 at Narnia Christian Preschool (Gosford). For more information and the application process please go to https://narniapreschoolecc.com.au/employment-3/

08.01.2022 Here at Narnia we are so blessed to be surrounded by the beautiful Australian bush. Recently we have been super excited to spot an eagle flying over Narnia. It’s so wonderful hearing the children’s excited little voices as they enjoy God’s creation. After seeing this eagle we went on a bush walk in the hope we may get a closer look. Unfortunately it was hiding, but we saw a brush turkey, kookaburra, bell bird and of course some magpies! Must be time for spring . We also had lots of fun exploring the many types of tree branches, gum nuts and bark.

07.01.2022 A special congratulations to Miss Billie who has just become engaged to her boyfriend Steve. We are all very excited for Billie and Steve and wish them a long and happy life together.

06.01.2022 Due to maintenance and upgrade work being undertaken by Ausgrid at St Philip’s Christian College, Narnia is expecting to have power interruptions from 19th to 22nd January. We will have a generator, however our phone lines will be affected. During this time, please contact the Narnia mobile, on 0478923568. We apologise for the inconvenience.

01.01.2022 The prep children had an art lesson yesterday from a qualified high school art teacher from St Philip's Christian College. The children began the lesson by reading the story "Katie and the Starry Night" by James Mayhew. This book explores Van Gough paintings and presents them as a lovely story. The children then looked at the famous painting "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh and were guided in how to create their own Starry Night drawings with pastel crayons. The children we...re so focused and engaged with this lesson and incredibly proud of their achievements. This was such a beautiful experience for our prep children to be a part of. Thank you so much to Jo for giving our children the opportunity to experience what it will be like at "big school". They felt so proud of themselves sitting up at tables, participating in their first actual art lesson, just like in a real classroom setting.
