22.01.2022 FIRE SAFETY TIP #11 | When using a lithium ion battery charger, to charge new toys and gadgets - never leave the battery on charge for longer than needed and always charge on a non-combustible surface like a tiled or concrete floor. Never charge on bedding, because the heat generated from the charger can lead to an electrical fire.

17.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon, Narrabri Fire and Rescue were responded to assist Wee Waa Fire and Rescue with a Machinery Fire at a bulk grain storage facilty on Trucking Yards Lane, Wee Waa. Wee Waa crews arrived to find smoke issuing from the top of a silo complex and immediately sent Firefighters in breathing apparatus to investigate who located the source of the smoke coming from an internal grain conveyor chute used to transport grain into the silos. Due to both the physically d...emanding and dangerous conditions associated with the incident, the incident was escalated to include all 3 of Narrabri’s Appliances as well as South Tamworth’s CAFS Tanker and our Duty Commander. Crews were required to scale some 192 steps and climb 2 internal ladders (approx. 40m from the ground) to access the source of the smoke and get water into the conveyor shoot to bring the fire under control. Due to the large amount of physical work required, crews were rotated every 15-20mins and check over by NSW Ambulance Paramedics once they had exited the hot zone and been recycled. After almost 8 hours from arriving on scene, and 18 Firefighters later, the incident was rendered safe and signed over to the site owners. #NarrabriFire #Hazmat Fire & Rescue NSW Station 506 Wee Waa Fire & Rescue NSW New England and North West Command

09.01.2022 SOLAR PANEL FIRES | We are urging residents with solar panels to remain aware and vigilant after an influx in solar panel fires this year. This footage was obta...ined from a neighbour in Glenwood who called Triple Zero (000) after noticing a house nearby had solar panels alight. This was one of six solar panel fires that Fire and Rescue NSW attended in the past week alone. These statistics show solar panel fires are up 20 percent compared to last year and continuing to rise. Isolation switches appear to be causing almost half of solar panel fires, so it is vital to ensure solar panels are installed and regularly maintained by a professional and that systems comply with Australian Standards. Always do a licence check with NSW Fair Trading before any installation and wiring takes place. This can be found at https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels. #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #PreparedForAnything

08.01.2022 FIRE IN THE SKY | Not just our eye in the sky, our RPAS (remotely piloted aircraft system) capabilities have been further enhanced to now be our fire in the sky...! FRNSW Bushfire and Aviation Unit recently completed training in a new RPAS capability; an Aerial Incendiary Device (AID) for use at FRNSW and external agency prescribed burn hazard reductions and bushfire operations. The AID consists of glycol-injected spheres that are used as part of the ignition strategy for controlled lighting patterns at these particular types of incidents. This allows for very stringent, controlled and potentially a non-contact approach to lighting hazard reductions with ignition planning applied through several safety gates.
