01.01.2022 ** ALL ABOARD - MEDIA RELEASE ** The Shire of Narrogin is on a journey to restore and activate the town’s Railway Station and Goods Shed and the community is in...vited to come along for the ride. The revitalisation and preservation of heritage buildings historically underutilised, offers the potential for commercial and/or community development and employment opportunities. The Shire views the restoration and future re-use of the Railway Station and the Goods Shed as contributing to Narrogin’s development and to the creation of a diverse and vibrant local economy and community. The Shire has engaged Laura Gray’s consultancy Heritage Intelligence, to develop a Conservation Management Plan and Adaptive Reuse Strategy for both the Railway Station and the Goods Shed. The process of re-purposing these heritage places through an Adaptive Reuse Strategy will require extensive consultation with the Shire as well as other stakeholders and the broader community. The feasibility of specific short and long term uses for the buildings will be determined, taking into account accessibility and usability balanced with economic, environmental and social sustainability. Shire President Leigh Ballard encourages the community to get involved and have their say stating that the Railway Station and Goods Shed are buildings that hold a special place in our history and this is an exciting step towards seeing a new era for the railway in Narrogin. Laura Gray will engage with the community in the coming weeks, including offering a walking tour of the Railway Station. Laura plans to meet with the Townscape Committee and a number of community organisations including the Chamber of Commerce. Check the Shire’s website and Facebook Page for information on dates and times for upcoming community consultations. The Shire views the Narrogin Railway Station as such an important part of Narrogin’s heritage and wants you on board for its future development. An empty train goes nowhere so come on board for the ride to a new era for the Narrogin Railway Station.
