22.01.2022 Anzac Day Tomorrow is the national day of remembrance, in Australia and New Zealand, that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served. Anzac Day was originally devised to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli Campaign, their first engagement in the First World War (1914...1918). Narrogin Amcal will be closed to honour the fallen. 19.01.2022 Hey Good People... for those of you who havent recognised it already, I have to share with you some sad news. Our very own Aleisha is not our "very own" any more Its true, Aleisha has moved on to new discoveries in her search for the meaning of her own life and we are all very sad to see her go.... Aleisha came to us as a fresh teenager, wide-eyed and eager to learn. It soon became apparent that this young girl from Pingelly was different to many her age. She had a depth of maturity and level of empathy rarely seen - for which I assume we can thank her parents - that quickly endeared her to her fellow workmates and also to the customers. From humble beginnings as the "junior" learning the ropes, she moved on to be the "darling of the deliveries", the champion of our beauty section and then on to become our dispensary assistant where she demonstrated real worth as one of our well-loved employees Involved in the community, she also was instrumental in organising and running a number of make-up and personal grooming sessions at NSHS. Needless to say she will be sorely missed. Aleisha, your cheeky nature and smiley face is gone but not forgotten... we wish you well in your new endeavours Good People, those of you that have graced our store on Saturday mornings may have also noticed the absence of one of our longest standing, part-time employees. Indeed, Emma Crosby-Clark has also chosen to spread her wings and has now joined the crew at the local hospital. Entering the pharmacy fray at 15 years of age, Emmas ever smiling face and humble nature has served her well for nearly 6 years, as she has graciously cared for the needs and well-being of our Saturday clients. The HOTHAM TRUST is a "not-for-profit" organisation that can provide financial grants to support people with disabilities to gain and/or retain employment. The Trust may grant funds for a variety of purposes, including such things as personal equipment, training programmes, TAFE and other courses, work place m...odifications, transport costs, community employment, and resources. In addition, the Trust will also consider funding for activities and programs which may enable people with disabilities to develop skills, personal attributes and other abilities in preparation for employment or training, and to assist people with disabilities to apply for additional funding from relevant agencies and institutions. These shall include, but not be limited to, funding provided by the NDIS. In general the Trust will consider all proposals that show a strong link between employment and disability. The Foundation will accept written applications from, or on behalf of, those with disabilities. This includes people with disabilities that are of a physical, mental, psychological or emotional nature, encompassing such disabilities that may have been suffered through illness or injury, have arisen since birth, or be genetic. 11.01.2022 Important Announcement to Narrogin Residents As some of you may be aware, the Shire of Narrogin has commenced an initiative to bolster commerce within our town during these trying times. Starting today the 2nd of June, all residents over the age of 18 on our local electoral roll, will be eligible to receive five $10 vouchers to spend within the town at businesses who are members of the Narrogin Chamber of Commerce. We sincerely welcome this initiative, especially given the in...ability of a lot of retail stores to be open and able to sell their usual wares for some time. During this period the trend of spending monies on-line escalated greatly around the world (hundreds of billions of dollars in wealth transfer to the richest corporations), with many in the financial field expressing concerns that if that trend was not reversed to a large degree, it would spell disaster for many small (and locally owned) establishments. Rural areas will especially feel this "hit" keenly, so it is imperative that we all get behind the Shires initiative to go back to supporting local businesses as we have done in the past. 09.01.2022 Good Morning All Sadly, things have ramped up Australia wide with respect to this current situation. This means that we have to begin implementing our plan to limit exposure now. Beginning sometime this morning we will be setting up a bench at the front of the store where all contact that we have with you will occur. You will be asked for your prescriptions and list of requirements. Your phone numbers will be required so that we can call you when your goods are ready.... It will be a situation where we will endeavour to have interaction with only one person at a time. Eventually, sometime today, there will be no customers allowed into the shop further than where this table is set up. The table may, at some stage, be moved outside of the shop. Please be respectful of this decision and act accordingly. We will obviously encounter some teething problems along the way and deal with them as they arise. Unbelievably, as Murphy would have it, we currently have NO PHONES!! We are working to get this rectified ASAP. Talk about everything at once!! I am very sad that it has come to this, some may say it was inevitable and perhaps this is true. For myself, I am going to absolutely miss the normal day-to-day interactions we have with you. Our pharmacy has always valued the very personal relationships we have forged together over the years... Sometimes I feel like I do more hugging, chatting and laughing with you than prescriptions. Please remember that whilst alcohol based hand-sanitisers are good in the short term (alcohol content must be >60% however 70%+ is preferable) there is no substitute for (thoroughly) washing hands with soap and warm water. 07.01.2022 Hey Good People Quick update on the current state of play... As most of you would now realise we have gone into a semi-lockdown situation with no entry to the premises and all business done one customer at a time.... Please know that this decision was not an easy one to make. In the long run it is one of a negative financial consequence as the purchasing of (generally) non-essential, front of store items has ceased. We have also retained all of our wonderful staff and they are all doing overtime to keep up with the demands of a completely different business structure and your requirements. We have made this decision to ensure we are doing everything possible to continue to stay open for you, our customers, as the alternative is not one I even wish to contemplate! Our Communitys ongoing needs are our greatest concern. Please observe and comply with all the "rules" we have put in place, especially the physical distancing required when attending the store to collect orders. Hygiene is essential, however so is respect for others and a good temperament really assists us greatly. Continue to drop off prescriptions for our safekeeping and phone us with your (future) requested orders in order to avoid congestion at the door and have less waiting time for you. We will take your phone number to call you when ready. A reminder that we are still selling over the counter medicines and vitamins etc, so dont hesitate to ask for what you want. Most people are immune-boosting at the moment, as well as using probiotics, if you need information or guidance, again just ask. Plans are in place to set up a regular fb post detailing products that arent able to be sold easily with current practices - eg gift lines, baby furniture, perfumes, make-up and the like - probably at discounted prices. Mothers Day is coming and generally its also important to do things that make you feel better. Flu Season is virtually here and we are (finally) seeing some stocks of vaccines trickle into WA... if you havent already placed your name on our list please do so. We are currently sorting out an area within the shop to perform this Professional Service and the protocols that will obviously need to be in place for this to work safely and effectively for all. We havent had a great response (as yet) to our request for volunteers to help our elderly who may have little or no support, as well as information on who you may think will need that help. Its understandable that people are organising themselves first at this time, so when things settle into a better routine please consider this initiative (read recent posts for more info). 03.01.2022 Good Afternoon Good People Well ,here we are, a few weeks into this current semi-lock-down and I am glad to say that here at Narrogin Amcal we are starting to get used to this new way of doing business!! A number of major changes have been instituted including re-arrangement of computers and till positioning, new "rules" over the handling of prescription (and other) documentation, limitation of access in-store, copious amounts of signage, new flu vaccination protocols and a h...ygiene and sanitisation protocol that any OCD-ite would be extremely proud of!! (no disrespect to those that truly suffer from this malady) The latest change, that I am sure many of you have already noticed, is the removal of the table from out the front of the store, to be replaced by a purpose-built counter (see pic) situated immediately inside the front doors. We feel this move has helped alleviate our concerns over safety for our staff, whilst also enabling more privacy during the conversations that take place with customers. And, it does look absolutely brilliant! Many thanks to the boys at South East Cabinet Makers, who made this happen rather quickly once we had the blueprint worked out PLEASE continue to observe the strict physical distancing guides we have set up, give people the privacy they deserve when picking up and discussing medications - and also importantly - DO refrain from leaning on the new counter or indeed, leaning through the windows. I cannot stress this enough! Anzac Weekend is up next, please note we are closed for both the Saturday and Monday, giving our staff a much needed break as well as observing this important, national day of remembrance. Mothers day is also fast approaching. You may notice we have placed display stands in the front windows to help showcase some products. This is a work in progress and will be enhanced over the coming days. As previously spoken of, we will be offering discounts on gift lines, jewellery and perfumes. If you have a particular (type of) item you are looking for, do not hesitate to ask the staff. Thankyou also to (most) everyone for abiding by the current restrictions, I do feel that we are having a positive effect on the "numbers" which is having an ongoing protective effect for our valued elderly and other vulnerable at-risk groups within our solid community. Nic actually passed this recent milestone a week or so ago however she was on holiday so we were only able to help her celebrate yesterday on her first day back Nic, we continue to thank you for your mammoth efforts as you make the lives of our elderly patients a lot easier with your webster-packing ways. 02.01.2022 Good Morning Good People GREAT NEWS Due to the fact that the "numbers" for WA are looking promising (no new cases for 7 days ), and that other restrictions have been lifted by the State Government - we are intending to commence the (re)opening of our store!! This will be done in two phases.... Firstly, as a trial starting today, Thursday morning, we will be allowing 2 people in-store at a time to look over our gift-ware section in order to get presents for mum on Mothers Day. There will be restricted-area access, which will be clearly indicated using black and yellow tape on the floor and red bollards. You will be required to use our complimentary hand sanitiser and are encouraged to touch the gift items as little as possible. Once your selection has been made you will be allowed outside again and the sale will be processed as per usual. For efficiency and ease of access, please follow the directions of the staff at all times. Stage 2 will begin this coming Monday 11th May. Pretty much the entire shop will be open to public access, except some spaces that will be marked accordingly, with restrictions to the numbers at any one time (as per the required distancing rules). Initially there will be a limit of 5 customers, with the view to re-assessing this as we go along. Hand sanitiser will be provided upon entry and again, please abide by the directions of staff so that we can continue to make things as safe as possible for all concerned. A reminder that to streamline the process of picking up prescriptions, please make sure to call ahead if possible, in order for us to have your medicine requirements made up for you by the time you get here. Give us your phone number and stay in your car if you can, we will let you know when your order is ready. Since the weather has been wet and cold recently, this will help to minimise the time you need to spend out in it :) When getting prescriptions from your doctor, again please remember to get the surgery to fax the scripts to us as soon as possible. Ask for a note to be written on the fax if you require the medicines to be dispensed immediately and give us a call to let us know when you will be down to pick them up. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all sincerely for your understanding and kind consideration over the last couple of months as we have tried to best negotiate the troubled waters of our present situation. You have been outstanding Let us hope and pray that the good news with respect to new infections continues to trend in the current direction, so that we can all get back to living the life that we know Narrogin can provide.... stay safe good people
