25.01.2022 IN GOOD HANDS A litter of tiny numbat joeys were rescued last week by leading WA conservationist Tony Friend and are lucky to be alive. Dr Friend, principal research scientist with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions rescued three numbat siblings after discovering their mother had been taken by a raptor in Dryandra Woodlands.

Four grey-haired figures move around the shed in the same choreographed routine they have honed for the past half-century. All of them are in their 70s.... McMillan claimed two wickets with the ball and then smashed 96 not out as Towns chased down 182 to win with five balls to spare.... 22.01.2022 VETERINARY "DISGRACE" The operators of Narrogin Veterinary Services will be deregistered this week after part-owner Anne-Maria Muffert was found guilty of unprofessional conduct. Vandenbergh Veterinary Group, which Dr Muffert owns with Dr Jules Vandenbergh, operates in Collie as well as Narrogin.... VVG and Dr Muffert will be struck off the Register of Veterinary Surgeons WA and fined $10,000.
22.01.2022 Narrogin’s Vicki Chadwick was one of three recipients across the State awarded the inaugural Netball WA Service to Sport Award at RAC Arena last month. A life member and the current umpire development officer at Narrogin and Districts Netball Association, she was honoured for 40 years of service to netball in the region. I was just completely surprised, she said.... I just thought I was coming as a guest, and then when they started out reading out the spiel on the winner, I just thought, ‘Oh, gosh. That’s me’."

Justice Stephen Hall said it was likely he murdered Ms Spiers - who disappeared in very similar circumstances to Ciara Glennon and Jane Rimmer - but not beyond reasonable doubt. LATEST ALERTS: https://emergency.wa.gov.au --------------------- ALERT LEVEL: A bushfire ADVICE is in place for people in the vicinity of ZILKO ROAD and ALBANY HIGHWAY, west of WILLIAMS TOWNSITE in the SHIRE OF WILLIAMS. There is no threat to lives or homes. There is a lot of smoke in the area. Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. The fire started near the intersection of ZILKO RD and ALBANY HIGHWAY in WILLIAMS. WHAT TO DO: Stay alert and monitor your surroundings. Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames. 12.01.2022 CALL FOR HIGHBURY FIRE TRUCK REJECTED The town of Highbury has been unsuccessful in its campaign for a dedicated fire truck, with Shire of Narrogin councillors last month rejecting calls to relocate one of the Shire’s trucks. Highbury’s chief fire control officer Philip Porter said the community had been trying for years to get a fire truck in the town.... It’s a bit hard when we have to call up Narrogin and get those guys to come to our fires" he said. "It would be nice if we could stand on our own two feet with our own fire equipment rather than relying on big brother all the time."

10.01.2022 BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD The Shire of Narrogin has scrapped it's plan to build a multi-million-dollar multi-sport clubroom facility at the Clayton Road sports grounds after years of consulting and planning. At last months council meeting, councillors identified that the layout of the towns sports facilities did not lend itself to a multi-sport clubroom facility.... By going through the consultancy process and realising that the one building isnt what we need in that location, we know we now need to come up with a new plan to get a positive outcome for all the sporting clubs" said Shire President Leigh Ballard. "I dont think thats a waste of money at all.

05.01.2022 EAGLE HERE TO STAY The Shire of Williams will purchase artist Jordan Sprigg’s wedge-tailed eagle sculpture, temporarily located outside the Williams Woolshed on Albany Highway, for $45,000. Thanks to the donation of an unnamed Williams resident, the Shire will only be required to pay for one-third of the sculpture, with the donor covering the rest.... The sculpture has been a hot topic in the town, with multiple surveys put to the community on whether or not it should stay.

The cause has been deemed accidental. The fire is moving slowly in a east-north-easterly direction. Firefighters are expecting the wind to change from south-westerly to westerly at midnight. Firefighters are on the scene, strengthening containment lines, actively fighting the fire, patrolling the area and mopping up. Aerial support has been sent to help ground crews. The town was a finalist in four categories and was praised by judges for the huge amount of work that has gone into improving the appearance and accessibility of Narrogin for all community members.... Judges were especially impressed with Gnarojin Community Garden, the colourful new bins throughout the town, the development of bike paths, a collaborative BMX site, and the restoration of the pavilion.
