25.01.2022 If you are on the lookout for a perfect wedding or event venue that is close to the City and has loads of character, look no further than Narryna, the Merchant's House. Join us from 2:00pm to 4:00pm tomorrow, Wednesday 11 November, for the Narryna Wedding Open Day and discover Battery Point's best kept secret!

24.01.2022 When Narryna re-opens tomorrow, you do not need to book but you will be asked to register some details with us on arrival. These details will be used for the purpose of contact tracing and will be stored securely for a period of 21 days. If there are too many people in the house you may be asked to wait before you can enter, but we hope this won't stop you from coming to see us. We look forward to welcoming you back from 10am tomorrow.

23.01.2022 We are very excited to be able to welcome you back to Narryna from next Tuesday...it has been a long five months! Your safety is our main concern so you will find some changes to the way you view the house. We have created a one-way route through the house to help accommodate physical distancing, extra hygiene measures and comprehensive regular cleaning will be in place, and visitor numbers will be limited on site. We want you to feel safe but most of all we would love you to come and visit...there are many changes to see so pop in and say hello from 1 September.

09.01.2022 Can you crack the code? The transcription of Captain Haig's journals have thrown up some interesting challenges. One of these is Haig's coded message. The paragraph below provides some context and we are hoping someone can offer some insight into the mystery text! In 1821, the South Americas were in a revolutionary ferment. Wars of independence from Spain were being fought in Chile, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, and other places. Lord Cochrane was commanding the navy of... the independent Chilean forces and Andrew Haig met him several times, lending him equipment and stores, even lunching aboard Cochrane’s flagship. Haig was a trading Captain, just 27 years old, working his brig, the Snipe, up and down the coast from Mazatlan in Mexico to Valparaiso, Chile. He needed to be nimble and not get caught up in the conflict, so he was part of the Captain’s network; often commenting on news and rumours of the land and naval battles as he decided on which was the safest port to head to next. Although on one occasion the Snipe was stopped at sea by a Spanish Man O’ War and a heavily armed frigate. The crew were held and questioned for over 24 hours before the Spanish Captain released Haig and the Snipe. It is in this context he uses code, which Narryna hopes you can solve. The Journal entries are in the images and the third one has the only plain English writing by Haig, ‘7pm’.
