19.01.2022 When he became President of the Australian Conservation Foundation, and I decided I wanted to paint this man this passionate environmentalist. In 2018 just before he led a private delegation to India in an attempt to stop the Adani mine he also agreed to sit for me.

18.01.2022 Titjikala Workshop Jane invited me behind the scenes at the art centre where I was able to watch the local artists work at close quarters. They were all shy but inviting at the same time. It was fascinating to see how deeply they entwined their culture and local landscape in their paintings.

11.01.2022 Titjikala: Canvas Stretching I discovered a way return some of this wonderful hospitality when I realised the canvas stretchers they had assembled in the workshop were loose and baggy. This is one of my pet hates. At Jane’s suggestion I gave a few lessons in stretcher tightening. A few months later Jane loudly proclaimed Tapatjataka had the best stretches canvasses in the Territory.

04.01.2022 Titjikala: Artist Excursion Titjikala means ‘eagle from the clay pan,’ named after the huge clay expanse on the way into town. The eagle dreaming is significant to the stories of the Eastern Arrente artists I met at the Tapatjatjaka Art Centre, the economic mainstay of the community.
