25.01.2022 How will counselling benefit your children? Counselling for Children and Adolescents can assist young clients to talk through and better understand the problem(s) in a safe and friendly environment. We support young clients to develop and use healthy coping skills, learn strategies that promote resilience, identify and use their character strengths and find solutions that work for them. We also support parents grandparents and teachers with effective strategies that helps the... child or adolescent in the desired change. Often parents are more nervous than the kids they bring into the clinic and you might want to sit in the first counselling session with your child. This is fine with us. Teenagers usually like a bit more space and therefore to work effectively we encourage participation in the first session to get an accurate idea of what is happening for your teen, but after that it’s likely we will see the teen on their own. This helps to develop rapport and trust between the Psychologist and the teen and also for the teen to develop a sense of personal responsibility for his/her life and therapeutic outcomes.

17.01.2022 There are many ways to get in the right headspace. Here's one of them.

12.01.2022 To our valued clients, In response to the growing fears around the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), we take this opportunity to reassure you that our entire team at Nasihah Consulting Group - Northern Psychology Clinic are taking proactive measures to protect our clients and staff. Within our clinic we have always implemented high standards of health and hygiene practices and in the current climate, we have reviewed our procedures and enforced further measures.... Above and beyond our usual hygiene standards we will: 1) Ensure that our reception area counter top is sanitised regularly throughout the day and hand sanitiser is available for both staff and clients to use prior to the commencement of your session. 2) Assure you that none of our staff members have recently travelled overseas nor do they plan to in the foreseeable future. 3) Under most circumstances we can make available the option for you to have your consultation in the comfort of your own home via telephone or Zoom. If you would like to arrange this option, please request more information on this at reception. 4) With COVID-19’s presence in our city of Melbourne, we request that you do not attend your psychology sessions in person if you experiencing either: fever (temperature of over 37.5C), or acute respiratory infection (e.g. shortness of breath, cough, sore throat) with or without fever. If you experience these symptoms and suspect that you might have coronavirus, please call coronavirus hotline on 1800 675 398. Consequently, we advise all new and existing clients to monitor their own health and avoid coming to the clinic if you have a fever, cough or flu-like symptoms. This also applies if you have travelled overseas in the last 14 days, or if you have been in close contact with someone confirmed positive or currently being evaluated for COVID-19, we advise that you do not come to the office for therapy. We ask that you stay home and seek medical advice if required. We are doing all we can to ensure your time with us is as safe and as beneficial as possible. We will closely monitor the advice and recommendations from government health authorities and act accordingly. We ask that in return you look after yourself and your family and do what you can to take care of your physical and emotional well being. Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding. Kind regards, Monique Toohey Managing Director & Principal Psychologist Suite 13 / 11-17 Pearcedale Pde, Broadmeadows Vic, 3047 Ph: 93511166 Fax: 9351116 [email protected]

11.01.2022 Psychological Support for Parents .......... And why not, it is the most complex job in the world!! We hold the assumption, that under the majority of circumstances, parents have the best interest of their child at heart and try to do the best they can in parenting their children.... When expecting your first child, parents are highly motivated, reading ‘pregnancy books’ and ‘what to expect during labour and in the first year’. The hard labour really starts when the infant is born. Most parents are winging it, relying on the blueprint of parenting that our own parents have left on us. Play with them (0-7); Guide them (7-14); Be their friend (14+) this is a lovely parenting model. Parenting is an emotional rollercoaster, filled with joyous moments and of course moments of great challenge. We have to cope with different genders and different ages and stages and parent accordingly. We are so fortunate to parent in a time when information and research on Betterparenting is widely available. Parenting is the hardest but most important job in the world. If you are a parent you deserve to get as much support as you like in creating a fulfilling relationship with your children. Making the decision to seek the expertise of a Psychologist, we know is a gutsy but proactive step for many parents. Parents who do choose to improve their parenting are essentially good parents who want to be better parents who have access to specific information that will help them to parent more effectively conserving energy and raising happy, resilient and well mannered kids.
