25.01.2022 This morning in Peaceful Kids we talked about getting our worries and big feelings out of our heads and onto paper when they're just too overwhelming. By writing them down then practicing mindfulness we can rest our minds for that moment. More Mindfulness = Less Worrying

23.01.2022 This morning in Week 3 of Peaceful Kids we looked at how worry is felt in our bodies and what happens in our brains when we worry... and the kids made their plasticine brains....

20.01.2022 This morning in Peaceful Kids we focused on Positive Thinking and helpful ways we can speak to ourselves. What's your favourite positive thought?

17.01.2022 Bookings for Peaceful Kids Term 2 are open!! We have a Thursday morning group for BPS kids and Sunday morning groups for local kids who attend schools outside of Bugendore. !!And for the first time ever....a group for high school kids!!... Message me below for more details! 10 reasons for booking your child into my next Peaceful Kids program: 1. They’ll learn about mindfulness and meditation and they’ll get to try out a range of meditations and mindfulness activities to see which ones work for them. 2. They’ll learn to identify and normalise feelings, how these can manifest in unhelpful behaviours and how to process them more effectively. 3. They’ll learn a range of strategies & mechanisms to prevent stress build up, increase resilience and cope when life gets hard because it does for all of us from time to time. 4. They’ll be part of a small group of kids (4-6) around the same age. They’ll learn from each other, especially that they are not alone in feeling overwhelmed at times and they’ll build supportive relationships to take back into the school environment. 5. They’ll be given a journal to fill in with beautiful lesson materials as well as a ‘goodie bag’ at the end filled with objects to inspire mindfulness. 6. You’ll get follow-up emails each week outlining what we’ve covered and what the home tasks are. These emails provide great talking points for you and your child.no more I dunno when you ask what they did at school today! 7. They’ll find the home tasks to be enjoyable and suitable for the whole family to try. Many of my Peaceful Kids have come back each week to tell me their parents and siblings are enjoying practicing the meditations too! 8. I will listen, encourage, guide and support them through the program with kindness and compassion. I will also be available to you to discuss your questions or concerns not just throughout the program but after it is all over as well. 9. At the end of the 8 weeks your child will have the tools to calm themselves, problem solve, increase focus and concentration, sleep better and enjoy life more. 10. It is a brilliant program, written by Georgie Manning of Wellbeing for Kids, endorsed by Dr Craig Hassed of Monash University and at only $280 for the 8 sessions it’s absolute value for money! And once they have completed the program, they will be eligible to attend the Peaceful Kids Chill Out Sessions weekly mindfulness sessions run throughout the school year from, commencing Term 3 2020.

03.01.2022 Today a parent asked me for advice on how best to speak with our kids about COVID 19 and here’s what I said: Keep it simple, give them the facts and only those they need to hear e.g. it’s a virus with flu like symptoms. Only give further info if they ask for it and keep that brief too.... Cover things they have control over, practical steps they can take, what they look like and why this is important e.g. washing hands, sneezing into elbows, coughing into tissues, social distancing etc. You can normalise this by reminding them that these are things we do every flu season or any time we are sick. Don’t focus on what they have no control over (the death toll, adults fighting over food and toilet paper, the potential economic fallout etc) as this is where anxiety can take hold. Only discuss these things if they bring them up and again, keep it brief. If you are feeling anxious about COVID 19 your kids will pick up on this so try and stay calm as you explain what is going on. Keep the discussion not only age appropriate but appropriate to their level of resilience i.e. what they can handle emotionally. Make sure you are also prepared for any questions they may ask. If they know too much already and they are feeling anxious then talk about all the good things that have come of this, the good deeds, the community spirit, the opportunities that arise from going back to a simple life for a while. Ask what positives they can find, where they see a silver lining. And finally, keep them away from the mediaI can’t stress this enough! If you have anything to add here please feel free to comment below. Good luck, stay safe, be well.
