09.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS UPDATE Dear All, Following on from our most recent meeting with our dedicated committee, it is with much regret and sadness that I have to announce that the 126th Nathalia Agricultural show will no longer be taking place this year and will be postponed until 2021.... We have been closely monitoring the unprecedented Coronavirus situation over the past few weeks and have explored all options. However, it has become increasingly evident that it would be both irresponsible and unfeasible to continue with the event this year, during these uncertain and challenging times. This difficult decision has not been taken lightly, however, the safety and wellbeing of our visitors, exhibitors, traders, staff and volunteers is always our primary concern, combined with the effect to the local area and residents. I would like to take this opportunity of personally thanking you all for your continued support of the Nathalia Show and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2021. On a more positive note, we will be hosting online competitions, focusing on what we would normally do at the show. Stay tuned!

04.01.2022 Some snippets of history..... The first show was on October 16, 1888 and was a resounding success with a fine day and large attendance despite the dust. It was a very dry year. Traditionally the show was held on the second Wednesday in October, but in 1935 it was moved to Saturday, as Saturdays had proved more successful in other towns. In the early days special trains were run from Shepparton to bring exhibitors and visitors to Nathalia for the show. ... Shows were not held during the war years. Some of the attractions of the past were woodchopping, trotting, rodeo displays, boxing and wrestling exhibitions, rough riding, coconut shies(?), puppet shows, sheepdog trials and merry go rounds. Educational exhibits from local schools began in the early days, and the society’s balls were a regular feature for many years. Although there was always a ladies committee working behind the scenes on catering and organizing the ball, it took 79 years for the first female society member to be elected. That honour went to Miss Frances Corry, a well known district horse woman, in 1967. It was a full 100 years before Mrs Chris Baker was elected as the first female president of the Agricultural society in 1988. Females now make up a large proportion of the committee, including current president Jessica Manacke and last year’s president Suzanne Hayes who was in the position since 2012.
