15.01.2022 FIVE SENSES ALIVE - Can you relate? Share with us your camping memories? When its time to return to Sun Country - camping is about something else. Its about ...senses and sensations. Its the memories, recalled once again Its about the touch: The coolness as you gently enter the water for the first time; the warmth of the campfire, first on your face, then on your back as you turn to warm up on a crisp autumn evening. The taste: Campfire toast so much toast! Tea, noodles, then cheese and biscuits after dinner. The sights: The early-morning glare as the tent unzips or you step out of the caravan; the river looking so quiet and glassy, the sparkles from the sun jumping across the ripples. Later, its the sparks from the campfire as another log is carefully placed on the embers, and the mob of kangaroos on the other side of the river. The sounds, too: Splashing, laughter, noisy cockatoos and the steam from the kettle. Then the quiet night, after everyones gone to bed, with just the breeze in the trees. But mostly its the smells that we remember: That fresh air that smells like nothing and everything all at once; the campfire smoke, especially on those days when it always seems to blow in your direction Sausages on the hotplate, gum leaves, dust, sand and water. Be Inspired check out our camping information on our website: https://www.visitthemurray.com.au///camping-by-the-murrray

15.01.2022 "And he ran like a goanna up a tree!" When I was kid camping, there was a man who told a story about a goanna that ran up a man cause he thought it was a tree.... They can run, very fast, so if you ever see one hed say, "Dont stand still." Being predatory lizards, goannas are often quite large, or at least bulky, with sharp teeth and claws. Goannas prey on all manner of small animals; insects, lizards, snakes, mammals, birds, eggs. Most goannas are dark in coloration, whites, greys, blacks and greens featuring prominently. Mangy desert dwelling species also feature yellow-red tones. Camouflage ranges from bands and stripes to splotches, speckles and circles, and can change as the creature matures; juveniles sometimes being brighter than adults. Like most lizards, goannas lay eggs. Most lay eggs in a nest or burrow, but some species lay their eggs inside termite mounds. This offers protection and incubation, additionally the termites may provide a meal for the young as they hatch. Unlike other species of lizards, goannas do not have the ability to regrow limbs or tails. This image was taken by local photographer Robert Pyne captured. 14.01.2022 For when the time is right to travel, Sun Country has a special secret not many know about and if you dont know, we are going to share it with you. The Barmah ... Millewa forest (River Red Gums National Park) is an internationally recognised wetland under the Ramsar Convention. We are proud to have the oldest stand of River Red Gums in the world, yes the world! The Red Gums thrive in the dry and drink up big in the wet. Some trees have up to 30 hollows through the branches where birds, lizards and marsupials make their homes. The trees are estimated to be between 500 years and 1000 years for trees that are 3-4 metres in girth. They can grow up to 45 metres tall. It really is worth a trip to Sun Country just to tilt your neck back as far as it can go, and gasp at Mother Natures amazing feat against gravity,..besides you can enjoy seeing our blue skys and feeling our warm sunshine streaming through the canopy on your face.
