03.01.2022 Is sugar making you fat? There is a shocking graph that has been floating around in articles and books that shows how increased levels of sugar consumption since the mid 1970's has caused our obesity crisis.(below) Some say with all this extra sugar we are eating it's no wonder we are a bit softer around the edges than the generations before us!... Some academics and scientists argue that sugar isn't the sole contributor to our issues. They argue that the increased usage of technology in our everyday lives has led to a more sedentary lifestyle. (2) So if at the same time we started eating more sugar we also started moving less which is to blame? We don't know. But do we need to? The Australian government recommend eating sugar along with processed foods and fats sparingly. (1) I have found with clients it is a great reward to eat a slice of their favourite for achieving a goal they have worked hard for. What is important is that it is a PLANNED REWARD within a healthy lifestyle, not a reward for finishing an episode of Vikings on Netflix every night . Sugar is one type of food. Don't let the hype surrounding it to distort your decisions so that it becomes a monster that ruins your relationship with food.
